But on the Lafontaine point, there was no job on the island to take

I was just joking around on that...

The strangeness started when they gave me up Nino Neiderreiter..their 1st round draft pick in 2010

Commodore rips Mike Babcock & Arniel for 'piss poor' treatment

Mike Commodore isn’t happy about the way his time in the NHL ended.

The 34-year-old blueliner, now suiting up for the KHL’s Admiral Vladivostok, spit hot fire about two of his former coaches, Scott Arniel of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Mike Babcock of the Detroit Red Wings.

“I'm very disappointed with how my last year in Columbus (2010-11) went and with my year in Detroit (2011-12). I feel I was treated piss poor,” Commodore told KHL.hr Thursday.

“I was thrown off the team in Columbus because I was single and I was making a lot of money. The coach (Arniel) was jealous because he played a lot of years, he had a wife and kids and he felt he didn't earn a lot of money so he booted me off the team. The next year he started doing the same to Derick Brassard but he got fired before he could finish it.”

Commodore then took aim at Babcock, whom he has a history with.

“(Detroit) offered me a one-year deal worth $1 million. My gut was screaming: ‘Don't take it, you’ve got one chance, if it doesn’t go well, you're done in the NHL!’

“I told my agent: ‘I don't want to play in Detroit for Mike Babcock, I don’t trust him. Call (general manager Ken Holland) back and tell him thank you, we’ll get back to you.’ My agent then told me the GM put a 15-minute time limit on the offer. I needed to make up my mind in 15 minutes or he was going to pull the offer off the table. This was July 1st, free agency had just started 10 minutes prior.

“I called the GM and told him: ‘Ken, Mike Commodore here, I like you, you’re a good guy. Is it you who wants me or the coach?’ Ken Holland said that he wanted me and so did Babcock. So I told him that I would love to play for Ken, and I would love to play for the Red Wings, but that I didn’t trust the coach from previous experience.

“So I called the coach, by now I had 10 minutes left. I called him: ‘Babs, Mike Commodore here. Please be honest with me, do you want me on your hockey team or not?’ He said he did. I wanted to know if I’d get an opportunity. I told him I am not looking for anything special, but that I needed to know if I was going to get a fair shot and a chance to play. He said ‘I want you on my team. You will get a fair chance. We need someone physical on the back end with a right shot. I want you. You will play.’

“I hung up the phone, five minutes left. My gut screamed ‘Say no!’ This coach screwed me over nine years ago. He buried me in the paper after I had a good camp in Anaheim. He buried me so I would look bad so he could then play his boy from junior who was an undrafted rookie at camp that year ... Kurt Sauer.

“Six years later when I finally had a chance to take a shot back at him publicly I did so in the paper when I was in Columbus. But then I started to think about Detroit, a good team, always makes the playoffs, I’d get to play with great players and about maybe getting the opportunity. So I took Mike Babcock’s word and I signed the contract, thirty minutes into free agency. I signed the f---ing contract faster than when I was a ‘hot commodity’ four years earlier. I was one of the first players gone that year in free agency. Off the board July 1st.

“I went to camp in Detroit, and got scratched out. I did injure my knee a bit so I missed couple of days in camp and the first four games. I got back as if it was nothing major. I came back, and the team won its first five games. I got scratched, but OK, the team was winning. We lost seven in a row, then I wasn’t even close to playing. Scratch, scratch.

“Finally, it was mid-November, Ian White got a puck to the face and was going to miss a week, we went on a road trip. A four-game road trip, and I thought to myself that this was my chance. I played three games, no two games, I think, three minutes a night … The only time I touched the ice was when the fourth line was on, and the faceoff was in the neutral zone. I was opening the doors for Lidstrom, that’s all I was doing, being a cheerleader.

“Babs then met with me, said he was calling up guys from minors, and scratched me until Christmas. Then the GM forced the coach to play me; I played fifteen games, I fought, I played the best I could with the ice time I was getting.

“And then I got traded (to the Tampa Bay Lightning) because Ken Holland felt bad. He’s a good guy. He got me out of Detroit because Babcock was trying to end my career. The GM of Tampa is Steve Yzerman, and I got traded for nothing. Yzerman took me, Tampa was good; we were five points out of the playoffs. Guy Boucher talked with me, and he said that as long as we were close to a playoff spot I'd be playing. If we fell out of the playoff zone, they'd be playing two younger defensemen. I ended playing up 11 games. We were in it, then lost a couple in a row and fell out of it. I played in the last game of the year as a thank you in Winnipeg.”

Poor Mike Commodore - he was right and the whole world was wrong. The whole world was also against him. He was as good as Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky all rolled into one, but the coaches didn't play him because they were jealous. Now, Superstar Mike Commodore, in between bites on his regular meal of sour grapes, is showing what a truly classy individual he is with these very respectful, dignified, intelligent, calm, expletive-free, non-insulting, non-libelous comments. Mike Commodore: a real hero for athletes and children everywhere! Let's name every arena in North America after this dignified, humble, and SUPER-talented competitor. Let's also put his smiling face on our money and declare a national holiday in his honor. To mix our sporting (or NON-sporting) metaphors, let's forget about Bret Hart - Mike Commodore is TRULY "the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be."

The Orpik hit was legal on Erickson..he had his head down

Neal kneeing Marchand was wrong, no doubt

But when you play with an edge, as Marchand is well known for..sometimes you get what's coming

A perfect example was the night that Tie Domi sucker punched Ulf Samuelsson, and knocked him out :faint:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AETBie8XqA4

As a Ranger fan, I can tell you- he deserved it ( I'm sure the Bruin fans agree :thumb:)

What Thornton did was so wrong

He must have had the John Scott costume on

Hmmm,

Thornton must have been damn pissed off that the Penguins Neal skated in from 12-15 feet away toward the already defenseless Marchand with a knee directly targeting the head at 2:32. But it did seem like Thornton used the incident as an excuse to hit Orpik because of some grudge as explained in the video. Nasty stuff. Neal and Thornton should get some time off.

But when you play with an edge, as Marchand is well known for...sometimes you get what's coming

Are you saying a knee to the head is okay because the victim plays "with an edge"? If so, shame smuler.

ish,

Who won the Detroit/Florida game earlier? Detroit? Of course!

No, to the amazement of everyone, the Monster had his first regulation time loss of the entire season. No wonder you intelligently expected a Red Wing victory with the Monster in nets. Of course, if Jimmy Howard had been in the nets most experts would have accurately predicted a Panther win.

Once again, the Leafs were badly outshot, but Reimer held the fort. And JVR played an another amazing game. And with the Wings losing, our boys are still well within striking range.

Yes, the Leafs were badly outshot as usual. As we all know, they have outshot their opponents only FOUR times all season!!!!! THIS game was the second consecutive one where they allowed FIFTY shots - which is just one of the many reasons so many Leaf fans are begging for Carlyle to be fired. Very luckily for the Leafs, their goalie saved them, as he has done in virtually all of their victories. JVR was, as usual, the one bright light among the skaters, as he continues his good season.

With their 2 points, the Leafs are now in 5th place in the Atlantic Division, 6 behind Montreal, 5 behind Boston, and 2 behind both Detroit and Tampa Bay. League-wide, the Leafs are 15th out of 30 teams and are very lucky to be in the weak Eastern Conference.

Now, the question is: how is the league going to deal with this? Are they going to throw the book at Thornton?

After all the players lost to concussions, after the Todd Bertuzzi- Steve Moore incident, and with the lawsuit by former players in the background, I cannot see the league sweeping this under the carpet as they too often do.

I think they will throw the book at him. I found it very reminiscent of Bertuzzi-Moore (premeditated, revenge for an attack on a teammate, an assault rather than a fight, "use" of the ice, etc.). Even Thornton appears quite upset - and not just because he knows what's coming to him. I don't think either Thornton or Bertuzzii WANTED what happened to happen - it was more that they had a plan of revenge and foolishly failed to think of what the repercussions would be.

I only saw this through the replays

Did Thornton come off the bench ?

If so, the coach will be suspended as well...

After the Ranger / Devil game , the MSG announcers were all shocked that Thornton did this

They all ( Daneyko/ Dave Maloney ) concurred on the same point

That Thornton was a class act before, and always was a guy who played by the " code "

Even after the game, Thornton's interview in which he even wondered himself why he did it ?? ( Slew foot/ sucker punch )

The word currently going around is that Thornton's suspension will be a long one, which will probably be appealed by the NHLPA.

James Neal is also expected to be suspended for several games. Many will say that Brad Marchand's past antics have made him a target and what happened last night was bound to happen, but still....you just can't go after a player's head like Neal did last night, even if it's Brad Marchand. Marchand could have suffered a broken neck on that play.

On a different note, Chris Kelly of the Bruins suffered a broken ankle last night. He'll be out for a few months.

And.....has there been a single night of hockey where so many players got concussed? On top of the players concussed in the Bruins game (Eriksson, Orpik, etc), word out of NY is that star forward Marc Staal suffered another concussion and his future status is uncertain.

p.s. Did anyone see P.J. Stock's rant on HNIC's second intermission last night?
