If Begervin don't make a move it is almost impossible for HABs to have a chance for the playoffs.

His options are limited. Who does he trade to get equal value? Subban? Price? Pacioretty?

People expect Bergevin to trade the likes of Bourque, Gionta, Desharnais, Briere, Leblanc and others and expect the moon for them.

Several of the players i mentionned are unwanted by most teams. Several currently have untradeable contracts. And some are unrestricted free agents after this season. So why would a GM give a quality player for someone who won't be around next season? And if he really wants that player, he can simply outbid everyone else during the offseason and get to keep the player(s) he would have given the habs should he have went along with the trade.

As for firing Therrien, i can't see this happening. Why? Because the habs have developped a tendency of changing coaches every year and Bergevin doesn't want this to happen on his watch. And who do you replace Therrien with? Gerard Gallant? He's not ready. Guy Boucher? He'd be worst than Therrien with that team. Laviolette? He turned out to be a disaster in Philly and his departure makes Craig Berube look like the second-coming of Fred Shero. Do you go back in the past and re-hire Guy Carbonneau or Mario Tremblay? Come on!

If this slump continues, maybe it's time to blow this whole thing up and start over. Rebuild from scratch. Trade veterans now and get prospects and/or picks in return. If you don't want to rebuild, go ahead and trade Subban for a player with similar talent. However, it would have to be to a team who'll know ahead of time that they can re-sign Subban. On top of that, there's no guarantee that Subban will re-sign with the Habs. I think he will, but who knows? He knows he'll hit the jockpot if he hits the free market and will get to chose where he wants to play. I know some believe that he loves playing in Mtl (he probably does) and it's the only place he wants to play. This is bullshit. Why would he prefer playing for a team with the highest tax rate in North America? Why would he want to play for a team where your every move (on and off the ice) is put under a microscope? Why would he want to play for a team where the fan base and media constantly criticizes you when either your or the team isn't performing to expectations? And finally, why would he want to remain in Mtl when he knows damn well he can make more money playing in the States and not be under a microscope day after day?

I'm afraid to inform you that it looks like it'll be a long season in Montreal, and the golf season will come very early.....

Bwhahahahaah.......... yea, you would NEVER do something like that. But how is the truth about their brutal schedule post Olympics, rubbing it in? It is just a fact is all. Now if you want rubbing it in, lets see how many goals Price lets in tonight first. ;)

Actually, i am predicting a habs win tonight 4u.
You're not being very nice - I didn't rub it in when the Leafs were slumping ...

Well, my prediction came true as the Canadians won tonight, although over a tired Carolina team. Meanwhile over in T O , the Leafs won against a very strong Tampa team thanks to excellent play by Nazem "The Dream" Kadri and Jonathan "Big Game" Bernier. Tim Gleason had a rough night but a great night as well on D. Hope he is not hurt very bad as he has been great since the trade with Carolina. He is a true warrior and sacrifices his body whenever he has to.

Next up for the habbies is Boston then Tampa..... these will be the true tests to see if they are out of their funk or if they really are wearing down.

Last i heard was that Gleeson had suffered a neck/shoulder injury and that it might simply be a 'stinger'. The way he skated off the ice, i thought it looked like he was favoring a shoulder. I agree that he's been a great addition to the team and gives 100% every night.

By the way, has Gunnerson slowed down or has he always been this way? It often seems like he's slow (very slow) to react to the play and doesn't have a strong stick. I feel he's a detriment to Phaneuf's ability and starting to wonder if the Leafs shouldn't try to find a true #2 defenceman to pair him with Phaneuf. I believe Gunnerson is no better than #4 defenceman on most teams. Heck, he wasn't even chosen to play for Sweden, so i guess i'm not alone in my assessment of him. I recently heard on a radio show that there would be no market for him around the league should the Leafs ever decide to shop him around.

And finally, Bernier was once again brilliant! It's a shame that he won't be able to play for Canada at the Olympics. He's played as well (if not better) as any of the current goalies chosen. I also think it's a shame that Mike Smith would be picked over Bernier and a few others. Mike Smith?? He's had a brutal season! He's only had one good season in his entire career! There's word that he was picked because of his stickhandling ability. The other day, a sportswriter joked that the word in Phoenix is that there's no better than Smith you'd want handling the puck when he leaves his crease. However, it's a totally different story when he's in his crease.

Yes Gunnar looks like he has taken a step back in his play, actually i noticed this last season. Franson is also slower than a turtle and does not make very smart decisions many nights but he has a wicked shot on the PP. If they could be replaced with even slight upgrades this team would be much better. Easier said than done however.

Hello Hockey Fans,

Seeing as my predictions have been almost as good as Joe.t's in the NFL thread all season (thanks again Mr.T for making be almost $500 this season, i bet small, what can i say) i figure i will give it another go tonight, but no promises so dont blame me if you lose the house BUT if you win big pass some love my way.

2 predictions tonight. Although i took the habs (and won) against a very tired Carolina team tuesday (that was their 5th game in 7 nights) i have to go with the Bruins tonight. My other pick is that the red wings WILL NOT lose again tonight! ;) Good luck "boyz"

Bwhahahaaha..... can you give us the "cost per goal" when scotty gomez was a hab-not? I'd take Clarksons grit and skill anyday over "scottie" and most of the hab-nots current team. :thumb:
Congratulations to David Clarkson on scoring his fourth goal of the year! @ $5.25M/season that works out $1,312,500 a goal so far ! INSANE !

Look behind you.
Ok, for Oiler news they won 4 out of the last 5, for us fans it is huge news since they have sucked most of the season. Ok back to east coast rivalry.

They beat my Rangers yesterday..Scrivens played great

Lots of young talent on that team

Martin Marincin played a great game on defense

Making fun of children that were sexually abused by a serial pedophile is very poor judgement & bad taste, GHG. These young victims did not ask to be sexually abused by this predator, nor is there anything funny about it.

Merely posting a link to a story related to the Maple Leaf Gardens abuse scandal certainly does not equal 'making fun' of the victims (except in your addled mind, it seems).

Pretty rich coming from a coward poster who deletes their posts when said posts turn out to be embarrassingly wrong or just full of shit. Pretty rich coming from a poster who has been completely exposed on numerous occasions as being an absolute fraud and total poser.

Now that the season is on hold due to the Olympics, I am sure that a lot of teams will use the break to rest their players, and get them into shape

You have no proof of this. Why? Because it ain't true.

As for the story you posted about the pedophile and his victims, it shows the kind of character you have. Abused children should NEVER be used for comical or sarcastic purposes. Nor should their abusers even be discussed here. Never. I suppose some people are more insenstive than others, but i had to express my opinion when i felt a line had been crossed.

Canadian Olympic Mens Hockey Coach, mike babCock, has to be the happiest of all the guys involved with Team Canada, he finally knows what it is like to actually win 3 games in a row again.
