I do not understand the call reversal on the Dallas no catch rule. I finished my workout while watching that catch and I went inside the locker room thinking that Dallas scored. I walked out only to learn that the Cowboys lost. It just goes to show you that one week you get all the breaks and the next week your opponent does.

I watched the Denver game and Payton Manning has lost his arm strength. He can no longer stretch the defense by throwing the long pass. He needs to retire.

It won't be long until this silly rule gets changed once again!!!!!

I'm not so sure. The same thing happened to Calvin Johnson of the Lions in their game against the Chicago Bears back in 2010 & the rule is still there. Just because it happened to the Cowboys doesn't mean that this time there will be a rule change.

p.s. By the way, i agree that it's a stupid rule & that it was a hell of a catch by Dez Bryant.

Manning played with a torn quad for the last month. No wonder his passes were so off. On the one hand, sad we don't get to see another Brady-Manning matchup. On the selfish side, I'm somewhat glad the Patriots get a little easier road to the Super Bowl. I thought the Broncos would've been tough to beat a second time in one season.

The Seahawks are still beasts, and will not be easy to play. I'm assuming Rodgers and that gimpy calf will not be able to get past Seattle, which is a shame. The Packers had a magnificent offense, otherwise.

Yes, it sure looked like it. Regardless, his arm strength has been going down. Last year you could see it. About time to hang em up as they say. Take the money and ride off into the sunset.

I remember Calvin's catch/no-catch quite well as the snake bit Lions were robbed once again. But the stupid rule is the stupid rule until they change it. At least there is some rational. How about the time that the Houston RB was tripped up and clearly touched his knee to the ground prior to running for a TD? Swartz threw the challenge flag which was against the rule because all TDs are reviewed anyway causing the TD not to be reviewed. Make sense of that one.

BOYZ!

I do not understand the call reversal on the Dallas no catch rule.

It's a pretty simple rule to understand really. Show control of the ball after hitting the ground. It clearly came out of his hands for a second. Still it's a very hypocritical rule. How is it the ground cannot cause a fumble but it can cause an incompletion. STUPID! Don't think I feel too badly that it happened to the Cowpies. I DON'T!!! But I don't like seeing any team get hosed by a bad rule. That's different however from a bad call. Just like the Tuck Rule Game the refs were only trying to apply the rule as written. Nothing wrong actually happened, it's just that the rule is itself stupid and hypocritical.

Stupid rules seem to be like Constitutional Amendments, nearly impossible to get rid of. The Tuck Rule Game was 13 years ago. I heard it was reviewed and kept. Don't expect the NFL to lose the bad rule that killed the pies. The NFL would have to admit they did something wrong, the same guys who didn't want to do much of anything against wife and child beaters.

The Patriots are the best team in the NFL...No question...The Super Bowl is theirs to lose!

Three of the four best team in the NFL are going to the Championship Games. Green Bay, Seattle, New England. Denver is certainly the fourth. Overall there's no doubt they are better than the Colts. But I have been hearing a number of analysts saying that Peyton is losing his arm strength and skill. The Colts just aren't that good yet. Still Peyton has had tough games in playoffs, and the upcoming Luck is definitely good enough to take advantage of an off day. Could the Clots whn. Maybe. The poorly running Patriots got 240 rushing yards against them, so I would not bet on Indy.

Green Bay is very tough if Rodgers is healthy. His mobility is the big factor there. He can be deadly on the run. Seattle has the kind of defense that has given the Patriots the toughest challenges by being able to break down offensive lines. If they keep Brady on the run unable to set himself, it gets very tough for New England. That will make the not quite great Russell Wilson look better than he is.

The Patriots weakness is the run and whether the offensive line can give Brady time to set his feet. He still has one of the quickest read and releases ever, but get him running and you increase your chances against the Patriots markedly.

Cheers,

Merlot

I don't know how much the quad injury impeded Manning's ability to throw, but he was pretty stupid not to take himself out of games when the outcome in some of them were already determined in order to allow his injury to heal. Just look at the recent Oakland Raiders game when he was leading by thirty or forty points late in the game, yet he was still in there, refusing to let the back-up QB take over. Very selfish (and stupid) if you ask me.

He's 38 years old, so it's not surprising if his arm strenght isn't any longer what it once was. Father time always prevails at one point or another. But he's still a heck of a QB and half the teams in the league would give anything to have a veteran QB like Peyton Manning take over. Heck, if Denver no longer wants him, i'm sure Rex Ryan won't hesitate one second to offer him the job in Buffalo.

Here is my pick for the Superbowl: Seahawks over the Patriots.

BOYZ,

Ya know, Dallas would be playing if Dez Dizzy It's All About Me Bryant had just come down with the ball he had control of and set up the team with 1st and goal at the 2...instead of his very obvious showboating for personal glory....that cost the team the season.

Heck, if Denver no longer wants him, i'm sure Rex Ryan won't hesitate one second to offer him the job in Buffalo.

Here is my pick for the Superbowl: Seahawks over the Patriots.

As great as Peyton is or has been, he has been poor in bad weather games, especially snowy, cold weather as we know so well in New England. I'm not sure if he's a little soft because of all his previous domed games, he just doesn't travel well in the cold, or it was the team he faced, but it seems like Buffalo would be one of the least choices, especially if you include how far they have to go to contend and how little time Peyton may have left.

One thing I've found about having my team in Championship games is I have a hard time enjoying them at all. None of the four teams are there yet, but the prospect of being there sometimes seems worse than not being there. Patriots v Seahawks would be a matchup of philosophical contrasts made for promotional advertising. I think either Green Bay or Seattle would murder the Colts, not that I think Indy will get there, but amazing crap happens.

Cheers,

Merlot

And who wore the #10?...Tom Brady a former Wolverine!

Yes, and Brady was 2nd string to which QB? This QB had forgone his Sr year to play baseball and he washed out at 3B for the Yankees AAA team.

If I remember correctly Brady started that year.

Drew Henson. Played 8 games with the Yanks (MLB) and had just 1 hit in 9 ABs. One step from Moonlight Graham.

One thing is for certain, Brady has always been a battler who frequently came out ahead.

GOWOLVERINES!

College career

Brady played college football for, and graduated from, the University of Michigan.[17][18] He was a backup quarterback for his first two years, while teammate and future NFL quarterback Brian Griese led the 1997 Wolverines to an undefeated season capped by a victory in the Rose Bowl and a share of the national championship. When he enrolled at Michigan, Brady was seventh on the depth chart and had an intense struggle to get some playing time. At one point, Brady hired a sports psychologist to help him cope with frustration and anxiety and even considered transferring to California.[19][20] Brady battled for the starting job with Drew Henson,[18] ultimately starting every game in the 1998 and 1999 seasons under Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr. During his first full year as starter, he set Michigan records for most pass attempts and completions in a season (214).[21] Brady was All-Big Ten honorable mention both seasons and team captain his senior year. The Wolverines won 20 of 25 games when he started, and he set a school record for completions in a 31-16 loss against Ohio State in 1998, a season in which Michigan shared the Big Ten Conference title. Brady capped that season with a win over Arkansas in the Citrus Bowl.[22] In the 1999 season, Brady had to once again hold off Henson for the starting job. The two platooned over the season's first seven games, with Brady playing the first quarter, Henson the second and Carr then deciding upon a quarterback for the second half. The 1999 Michigan Wolverines started off 5-0, including a 26-22 win over Notre Dame and a road win against eventual powerhouse Wisconsin. Against Michigan State, Brady was not chosen to play the second half but was reinserted into the game with Michigan down 17; he nearly led Michigan all the way back before losing 34-31. After a 300-yard passing game the following week, Carr went exclusively with Brady for the remainder of the season. Brady went on to lead Michigan to multiple 4th-quarter comebacks, including a remarkable 31-27 win against Penn State, and leading them out of a close game against Indiana, 34-31, heading into the regular season's final game, winners of three straight, earning him the moniker of "Comeback Kid". Brady concluded the regular season against Michigan's oldest rival, Ohio State, in a dramatic game, with a trip to the Orange Bowl on the line. With five minutes left, tied 17-17, Brady led Michigan to the winning score. He then led Michigan to an overtime win in the Orange Bowl over Alabama, throwing for 369 yards, four touchdowns, leading the team back from a pair of 14-point deficits in regulation (14-0 in the first half, and 28-14 in the second). He threw the game-winning score on a bootleg to tight end Shawn Thompson. Michigan then won when Alabama missed an extra point following its own touchdown.

Sounds familiar.

Some professional comparisons and achievements:

Brady and Joe Montana are the only two players in NFL history to win the NFL Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl MVP awards multiple times. Brady and John Elway are the only two quarterbacks to lead their teams to five Super Bowls. He was also named the NFL MVP in 2007 and 2010 (becoming the first player to be unanimously chosen as MVP in the 2010 season) as well as 2007 Male Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press, the first time an NFL player has been so honored since Joe Montana won the award in 1990. After the 2010 season, Brady was ranked as the best player in the NFL. He was also the first quarterback to throw for 50 or more touchdowns in a season. In 2010, he set the all time record for consecutive passes without an interception (335), and broke his own record for season TD:INT ratio at 9:1.

He was of course the 4th quarterback of the Patriots after being drafted 199 in round 6. It seems to have started just like it did in Michigan.

Cheers,

Merlot

Why not? It's not like Roy Manning was a rockstar secondary coach.

I would expect more players on the offense to leave than defense. Peppers is high-end talent, regardless of the system he plays in. He'll get his chance to showcase his skills, and he will see the field a lot, if he's as good as advertised.
