Hate all you want, but for states to shut down houses of worship and let strip clubs, bars, and gyms remain open is wrong. The supreme court isn't adding to the Covid problem, quite the opposite. I think you misunderstood my post. He is the one sane Justice and has been a key vote in many recent decisions that went 5-4 the other way, all of which were correct, but he was in the minority, meaning he was one of 4 dissenters.

Yes, but he is also consistently right, both on the law and the result. When Bush nominated him not much was thought of him, other than that he was good at chirping the party line, but he has shown himself to be a distinguished legal scholar.

Cannot receive the communion wafer online. People can work out at home, I do. People can drink at home, I do. What I'm saying is there is no reason why people shouldn't be able to go to church within the guidelines set forth by the CDC just like they can a bar, gym, or strip club. Everybody should be treated equally. Trump didn't stack anything, he simply appointed a justice just like it's been done many times before. But it's not about that, not at all. It's about people being treated equally. We all stay locked inside or we all are allowed to go outside, it's not for anyone to pick and choose who gets to do it. Especially if we all are subjected to the same rules set forth by the CDC. It's about time the Supreme Court got something right for a change.

I wonder if anyone bothered to read the actual text of the Supreme Court's decision. I found the dissent penned by Chief Justice especially illuminating. The legal doctrine on which he is apparently basing his reasoning seems to be accessible to mere mortals, it reads: Kick The Can Down The Road! Why bother, Roberts writes, when Cuomo has agreed to redraw the zones, so those pesky Catholics and Jews should be happy already. Why do we need to do any work when who knows if he reinstates the restrictions or not. If he does, then come back again and we will find another reason to do nothing. Let's have beer and chips or perhaps pinot noir and brie, life is beautiful. (Not his exact words, rather my reading of them.)

In any other line of work, a person writing this document would likely be considered a lazy fuck, but hey, here, as we are reliably informed, we are in the presence of a distinguished legal scholar, so we must memorize it and from now on use it as a reference. Impressive beyond belief, no question.
