Cutting The Cord on Cable TV and Going With Streaming Service?

I've gotten to the point with my cable provider that I'm ready to cut the cord! Having access to the MSG and YES network (tri state hockey and Yankees baseball) doesn't look like there's one provider that handles both. Looks like Fubo has the MSG network and is geared more towards sports than the other streaming services. They also offer it with the option to stream it over 3 devices so I could always have a buddy or two chip in for the cost. What is everyone doing about the YES network? Gotta be able to watch the Yankees.

I haven't had cable in 10 years, you can find everything you want online especially if you know how to torrent. When I'm in waiting rooms where they have cable TV, i cringe at how many commercials there are... how do you people do it?!?!?!

Bell constantly contacts me about promotions...
Me - "I don't want TV or a Phone Line, just internet, are you going to give me a deal on my internet alone?"
Bell- "sorry no"
Me- "Thank you bye!"

TGW - My thinking is the same as yours. Got to have MSG and YES. I wish they could be offered as a separate streaming service like HBO or Netflix. Is there a reason they can't?

There's definitely no reason why they can't. I guess it's just something they don't feel they need to do yet. HBO, Showtime, etc. have a reason to offer a streaming service, maybe MSG and YES will in the future. I'm really just fed up with the lousy customer service and channel options offered by cable right now so I figured it might be worth it to cut the cord.

I also have not had TV for about 10-12 years.
Originally grabbing my tv/movies form torrent and usenet.

Nowadays I like my amazon firestick with netflix and Cinema APK for a reliable source of every other TV/Movie Netflix do not have.

Always had cable ISP other than Video-etron. Now with EBox for the last 6 years and pretty happy.

A friend made a suggestion to me. He signed up for Hulu Live TV to get YES. Once the baseball season is over, he is putting HuluLiveTV on pause and signing up for Fubo for the hockey and basketball on MSG. Then next spring he is planning to put Fubo on pause and rejoining HuluLiveTV. May be a solution.

The trouble is these sevices are also increasing their prices constantly. I think YoutubeTv just raised their price to $65 . It wasn't too long ago when it was $50. And they still don't have YES.

^^^^I’m thinking of doing exactly what your doing GH. Here’s a question I haven’t seen in this thread, are you able to set up season passes to automatically record favorite tv shows or sports teams? Or do you have to manually record everything? I guess I’m spoiled from using a TiVo box for 20 years.

I have Hulu Live TV and there are a couple things about it I don't like as compared to YouTube TV which I cancelled after they dropped YES:

1. I have connectivity issues I never had with YT TV. Sometimes this manifests with screen freeze and the like.

2. Somehow all the programming is defaulted to start from the beginning and if you leave one game and go to another, when you go back to the last channel you were on, it picks up from where you left it, rather than LIVE. There is a "Go Live" button, but for some reason it doesn't always take me to the live point in the program. It sometimes goes to the start or where I left off and doesn't automatically go live.

I had the same experience as you with Hulu TV a few years back (i had good internet), and from my understanding, they are still on old Chinese streaming tech, which is why Netflix did so well. Hulu has such a huge user base, I don't know why they don't just improve their quality.

I have Prostream and Xtreme live service but I'm in the states. Dunno if you can get it in Canada.

I get all live sports, ppv, new movies, tv shows. I'm not sure I could ask for more. There is a package gaming option as well.

Cheers,
Fredd

It looks like it does work for Canada. There are so many IPTV services out there, its hard to choose. I had access to my friend's IPTV account for a few months and wow, this is truly the way to go, you have thousands of channels. I just can't handle commercials, so I stick to torrents. IPTV is definitely a good alternative because its so cheap.

I use amazon fire stick (hacked), I get about 15, 000 channels from all over the world, 24/7 TV shows no commercials, all premium movie channels and my hacker only charges me $120 a year.

Sounds like a great deal. Do you have to use a VPN and are you in the states?

true say. However if I want to be able to watch whats live in the moment, I can't avoid the ads. You are right online network stations have them... I've ventured in those other channels, lots of interesting stuff, almost too much to choose from. I guess cuz its not "on-demand", I haven't paid for my own subscription and why I torrent.

Here's an update on my cablevision crisis. Finally cut the cord today, and my monthly fees have gone from about $200 a month down to about $80 a month! I reached out to Optimum (the cable company here on Long Island) and requested to speak to their retention department. Keeping me as a customer was actually important to them. I was happily surprised about this. I told them I was stopping my cable service but would like to continue to use my internet service. Initially I was told that this would cost $120 a month by another customer service rep. After speaking to the retention department they offered me the 300 MBPS speed (which is more than enough for me) for $38 a month. The streaming service I went with is FuboTV and the cost for their elite package is $79.99 a month. With FuboTV elite, your allowed to have 3 different streaming devices work at the same time regardless of the location. I went in half with a buddy of mine who lives in Manhattan cutting the cost to $40 a month. So, internet price is $38 and the streaming service is $40, or about $80 per month instead of paying the $200 a month I was paying for before. The other great thing about keeping Optimum is that they have a cell phone company called Altice mobile. Altice mobile has a $20 per month unlimited cell phone plan as long as your an Optimum customer. I did this last year and saved about $100 a month from when I was using Sprint. It's not 5g but I could care less for the amount of money I'm paying.

Glad this thread was started, it motivated me to move on from cable and end up saving a ton of money. Thanks EB!

Update about FuboTV. You can watch 2 channels at the same time with a split screen. Works great when watching two different sporting events and want to switch back and forth. Excellent feature.

It's a good thing all these streaming services are month to month. Once baseball season is over I am thinking of cancelling Hulu Live TV and either going back to You Tube TV until next baseball season, or perhaps trying Fubo TV. Hulu Live sucks compared to You Tube TV. The ONLY advantage is that Hulu offers YES/Yankees baseball and YT TV does not since dropping YES in May. YTTV is much more glitch free, easier to use and also better organized, and other than having dropped YES they do have a great package of sports networks.
