Here's an update on my cablevision crisis. Finally cut the cord today, and my monthly fees have gone from about $200 a month down to about $80 a month! I reached out to Optimum (the cable company here on Long Island) and requested to speak to their retention department. Keeping me as a customer was actually important to them. I was happily surprised about this. I told them I was stopping my cable service but would like to continue to use my internet service. Initially I was told that this would cost $120 a month by another customer service rep. After speaking to the retention department they offered me the 300 MBPS speed (which is more than enough for me) for $38 a month. The streaming service I went with is FuboTV and the cost for their elite package is $79.99 a month. With FuboTV elite, your allowed to have 3 different streaming devices work at the same time regardless of the location. I went in half with a buddy of mine who lives in Manhattan cutting the cost to $40 a month. So, internet price is $38 and the streaming service is $40, or about $80 per month instead of paying the $200 a month I was paying for before. The other great thing about keeping Optimum is that they have a cell phone company called Altice mobile. Altice mobile has a $20 per month unlimited cell phone plan as long as your an Optimum customer. I did this last year and saved about $100 a month from when I was using Sprint. It's not 5g but I could care less for the amount of money I'm paying.
