What, conservatives wanna raise taxes? Last I heard, they're the party who's always proposed less taxes...

I'm not sure why people bash against the PCC so much (it's not like their politics are unattractive from a realists perspective) and I'm not sure why some of you don't like/vote for Harper based on his charisma? That's not a good reason to vote against the conservatives, if you vote against them then it has to be cause you don't like the politics of the party. Cause everyone can play the "looks" game: Jack has tons of charisma but he doesn't look very prime-ministerial, he's like a beer buddy, could you see a guy like that ruling a country?

The conservatives only have rightist politics going for them, which is legistimate. If you're a leftist, good for u, and most right wings in Canada will respect your leftist view; but somehow, a majority of leftists demonize the right; it's kinda irrespectful... Its the same as those loonies on the street putting Fuhrer mustachios on Obama's face, it shows a total lack of rationality and understanding. It's a leap towards easy labeling. Who here read the electoral platform for each party and took time to inform themselves. The Majority of people won't do that, they won't make their own opinion, they'll just read or listen to a prebiased journalistic source and go on with it... That is what is trully sad in today's society. Let's not kid ourselves, the right is a vision of the world which is more and more popular everywhere... Most people like a smaller bureaucracy, lessr taxes, etc.. It's appealing

Exactly they lower taxes but do nothing for the middle class people. They need the most help. Honestly that two percent reduction is not significant when your salary is below $30,000 a year. They would rather throw our tax dollars for the military. I would never vote conservative. Not to mention conservatives would want to outlaw lapdancing and escorts. Who knows what they are thinking? But it is in line with conservative thinking. Let us pray they do not win a majority. Looking through history they always screwed up the economy. Brian Mulroney is a classic example.

As for Quebec: language laws are fine, there's nothing wrong with that. Also, multi-culturalism does not work (so says France, Germany, and Australia). The right path is interculturalism now.. And so more and more nations agree. The west should be dominated by western culture, and although we should allow for everyone to retain their roots, we ought try to westernize everyone who want to live in our civilization. And everyone here will agree!!! Right?

Wrong! Nothing wrong in preserving it but there is something wrong with enforcing it. That is what the separatists are all about. They enforce their language on all us. They want French to be the dominating culture. Nothing wrong in becoming more westernized but you cannot expect people from other countries to leave their culture. They will always keep it and speak their language. Again the separatists are about intolerance. They are very xenophobic.

Ish, on French language laws your wrong. Yes it's an enforcement, but it has a single purpose, to make sure that immigrants learn French so that the 'french' province in Canada isn't overtaken by a growing majority of english speaking people. It's a totally acceptable position if you recognize the distinctiveness of Quebec. What people would want to accept their linguistic doom, none. They wish to propagate this element of their culture, why would anyone disagree with that?

What should be important instead, is to offer good English courses in French program schools, cause right now it's lacking...

If they are here on a temporary basis and come from an English speaking country such as the US, yes, I am opposed. If they are here permanently and come from an English speaking country where their children have already begun their education in English, they should be given the choice between a French education and French immersion with an English base. Anything else is unfair to the student who will likely lose a year at minimun before he is able to adapt to studies in a new language which they have no ability in. No one should be punished because they do not speak the language.

True, it is entirely their problem. And it is why they decided to legislate instead of having the federal governement impose multiculturalism. If you vote for any major political party next week, you will be voting for a party that accepts the right of Québec to legislate on these matters and accepts the fact that Québec imposes that immigrants send their children to french schools.

You can no more impose multi-culturalism by law than you can prevent it by law. Either would be discrimination. You can not force someone to adopt a culture or to abandon their own. We have freedom of religion and freedom of expression in this country. Only Quebec, by virtue of the not withstanding clause, is permitted to override basic human rights and force a language on a populace. This is accepted nowhere else in the civilized, democratic world. In a separate Quebec, this would not be permitted and no language could be restricted from anyone. If such provisions were retained, they would be illegal under international law as being discriminatory towards a minority. Separatist leaders are well aware of this fact and this is one of the reasons they wish to push for more powers within a Canadian structure rather than an outright split into a new country. This will allow them to retain the laws which are now in place and which the PQ wish to make even more discriminatory and restrictive by restricting access to English higher learning institutions.

The exodus of the late 70’s had nothing to do with taxation levels. It was the result of a fear campaign orchestrated by elements of the business and political community.

You are right the high taxes was not the reason for it but it does not help things. Again no business likes political unstability and also they do not want to be forced to operate in another language of their choice. Many people left the province due to the enforcement of the French language on people.

The ability of the Native people to protect their culture is not the result of any acceptance of multiculturalism or adherence to the society of rights promoted in the Trudeau year. Trudeau wanted to abolish the Indian status in Canada. Native people have regrouped and faugh for their rights, just like the Québécois did.

You are right but it does not sum the whole scenario. There is a major difference. The First Nations people are not enforcing their language and culture on everyone living in this province. They are not forcing businesses to operate in their language.

I always find it funny to see xenophobes and intolerants people associated exclusively to separatists. Of course, some separatists are xenophobes, intolerant and ignorant, just like some federalists are.

I am sure there are federalists who may be xenophobes. But the idea of the separatists is xenophobic. Federalists are not promoting enforcing on their language on other people nor are they trying to assimilate other cultures into their own.

Yes I strongly oppose this. People should have the right to choose the language for their school to attend to. But again they restrict it because they feel threatened by the English language and want to make sure that French dominates all other languages.

Again people should have the choice to send their children to French or English school but this is not the case here. This goes back to the 70's the civil unrest caused by the FLQ. I doubt any political party except the BQ supports this position. But the Bill has been enforced. They made a huge exception for Quebec to allow them to do this.

I do not oppose intercultural marriage. I have no reason to. If immigrants choose not to transmit their language or culture to their kids there is nothing wrong with that. It is a choice that they made. But the Bloc is promoting enforcing the French language on everyone living in this province.

Show me only one article of the Bloc’s program promoting assimilation. Imposing the learning of French to immigrants’s kids is helping them to be part of our society, not at all negating their cultural heritage, even less asking them to forget it. That’s called integration, not assimilation.

I do not have to. Just the fact that they are enforcing the French language is enough to prove that.
