Ziggy=George Washington
It is amazing to me that this thread has had legs, because it was started by someone who was just stirring shit and has done so in the past.
That being said, the thread touches on an interesting issue because when this Board started in 2003, it was English only, and the main posters were Anglophones. This continued for a long time. It was only in the past two years or so that we saw and more and more French threads appear. I think the primary impetus for that was Ziggy Montana, a bilingual Anglophone. Ziggy started some very long threads in French, which he did not have to do, and I think that sent a message to the Francophones that it was okay to start threads in French.
I pass no judgments here - I am merely reciting my own perception of the factual history of how the trend of French threads developed. If the Francophone posters wish to anoint someone as their George Washington (or Napoleon), then to me it was Ziggy Montana. However I am just playing the role of historian here, since I have been here from the Board's inception, and I pass no judgment on Ziggy or the posting trends which are under discussion.
Unfortunately, although I am an educated person, I have struggled to learn how to speak French. Sometimes I can understand the written French a little bit because some of the words are close to the English words, but the truth is most times I don't read the French threads. It's too bad that some of the bilingual Francophones don't post English translations of their posts, because by doing so they will reach the widest possible audience.
