They will probably hire a french Gm and a french coach that would speak more to the journalists ...
Isn't Vice President of Hockey Operations just a title? They do these shenanigans in baseball where they make a guy Vice President of Baseball Operations and he is basically doing all of what a GM does and also tells the titular GM what to do. The GM in such situations is a water boy who talks to the media and does non personnel duties.

Either way Gorton is going to need a translator to speak to the French guys you say they will hire and tell them what to do, right? Maybe Gaby can be his translator?

Gorton is an American New Englander who speaks no French, so how will that work exactly in the Montreal market??????.....if you are expecting him to speak in your language at pressers that is NOT happening but Gaby, I would suggest that you apply for the position of Gorton's translator, so that his transition to Montreal can go as smoothly as possible:

Not sure i would b the best translator....lol....transition /language will go smooth as long the team will perform.... ;) ...if so no problem with his french...BUT fans/media will b more attentive at the new DG.;)

I am not sure
It would maybe more like Brendan Shanahan in To ... The day to day will be managed by the Gm and the coach with the media

I got $100 that says Gorton and his regime will tear it all down, and a MAXIMUM of 5 guys on the current roster will still be on the team next year. Any takers? LOL! I can almost guarantee that Suzuki and Caulfield will survive the fire, as for everyone else, I would suggest not entering any leases beyond the end of this season.

Regarding Ducharme, he is GONE. I would not let him twist in the wind much longer. Give him his walking papers and bring in the new coach now so Gorton can get his input on the current roster. Should be one of Gorton's guys, someone he can trust, although I doubt he will hire David Quinn. Quinn is another guy who has no French language skills. Media will object if they hire too many Anglos. Not sure Quinn can handle the job anyway. Quinn was a very good NCAA coach who was in over his head in the NHL.

Gaby do you really think Ducharme should be allowed to twist in the wind like that, just so the team can save money? I don't believe in lame duck coaches in sports, who have no motivation to give their best effort and all motivation to be looking for their next job. In addition, I think Gorton would rather get reports on the roster from one of his own guys, not Bergevin's guy. You can't just cut off the ears of the old regime, you need to cut off the whole head.

Gaby,

What you posted above about creating a "special group" to support the players in the "hot market" of Montreal is a little concerning to me. I believe you give them a seminar on being a Hab when they join the team and explain what that means. After that, grown men should be treated like grown men and not like babies who need constant supervision. While I realize the Habs do not want a repeat of the Price/Drouin situations, it is the responsibility of the organization to acquire players who can handle the pressures of being an NHL player. I believe that if you treat players as grown men they (for the most part) will behave like grown men. When you start sending the message to the players that you do not trust them to be able to hold their weenie when they go pee pee, and instead have someone watching over them, it condescends and makes them feel like juveniles.

Montreal isn't the only city that is hard to play in sometimes for its professional athletes. Do you think it's easy for baseball players on the Yankees and Mets in New York, or for the Red Sox in Boston? In watching the Yankees for over 40 years I have seen it happen that players need to take a leave of absence because of their mental well being. Specifically I remember Butch Wynegar, a catcher in the 1980s, was actually an above average catcher but just couldn't handle the pressure of playing in NYC. He took a half season off and eventually they had to trade him but this is very rare to happen. I think the Habs are overreacting to the Price-Drouin situations.

I think most teams employ mental health professionals who are there if needed by the players. But to have watchdogs on the players strikes me as likely counterproductive. A man has to be allowed to stand on his own 2 feet; if he cannot, the team should then pay for his mental health services and leave of absence. This seems pretty simple. The key is to make sure you have players who can stand on their own 2 feet and take the heat. All of us have pressure in our jobs, the Habs are paid a whole lot more to take it. If I took a leave of absence like Price from my job, I wouldn't be allowed back. They would just hire a replacement and say bye bye. These guys have to live in the real world like the rest of us Gaby.

It seems a seminar is not enough ;)...they need more than that selon Molson qui doit savoir de quoi il parle ;) .....and yes many are still young babies....that's why they need a special attention/supervision....lol.

I don't know if it's a real good idea to present to the players a program which gives them special supervision and attention on the theory that they are babies who need special supervision and attention. I think most players want to be treated as grown men and the very nature of this program is to condescend to the players and communicate to them that they are juveniles and the Habs are running a special juvenile delinquency program for them. Does any other NHL team do this???!!! It may be well intended but I do not think it will be well received.

hmmm I think that Molson will hope that Chicago will hire Bergevin so he can hire Julien and remove him from their payroll :)
