Gaby, Weber's TOI/G is 25:21 which in my mind is way too much ice time for a 32 year old defenseman, at a stage of his career when he can be expected to break down. It's by far the most TOI/G of any Habs player. While Weber has consistently averaged over 25:00 TOI/G for the last 7-8 years, when a defenseman reaches 32 years old you can't continue to treat him like a horse. In my opinion, the injury was caused by the Habs muling this dude with a bigger workload than he can reasonably handle. The next two highest scoring defensemen are Petry and Benn, who average much less TOI/G than Weber, but now they will have to play more.
Aging star players who have a history of being workhorses can be tricky to handle. Sometimes, I think especially in a sport like hockey, a team is well served by having 4 lines and around 3 very good defensemen and then another 4-5 guys who are very serviceable, so that nobody has to be played drop dead type minutes. Weber is the best defenseman on the team, don't wear the poor bastard out prematurely and grind him into the ice. I think a lot of older guys get hurt because their teams try to mule them and squeeze every drop of productivity out of their bodies, even when there is less ketchup in the bottle than what needs to be squeezed out and onto the fries.
