Shea Weber was named team captain today. No big surprise there. The team probably would have preferred to wait until he returned to the lineup but likely got tired of being asked about the captaincy from the media.

Just remember that a ship with a Captain who is in sick bay below the deck all the time is a rudderless ship meandering through the sea with no course.

Agree with you Doc about the media here in Montréal...and yes EB this ship will go nowhere again this year....too bad but that's the way they are going.

The habs won't have Plekanec, Alzner and Sherbak in the lineup tonight. Not that surprising about Pleky since his next game will be his 1000th game, which means management likely would want him to play it in front of home fans.

But his absence may hurt the team since he's their top veteran checker and they'll be playing against one of the league's top offensive machines tonight.

Alzner is somewhat of a surprise considering that big contract given to him last season by the team's general manager. But he supposedly arrived in camp out of shape and the team likely feels there are other players (Ouellette, Benn, etc) who deserve to play more than he does.

Prediction: Leafs 5 Habs 2

Strange decision regarding Pleky....he would have give his best tonight playing his former team,,,for me a win is more important than a celebration in Montréal....probably they already know they are done for tonight....lol.....Good if Ouellette plays tonight....

Prediction-With Price in the net..Leafs 6 Habs 1:fat:

Well....a very good start for the Habs and Price.......m'ont vraiment surpris and KK did well......voyons maintenant si cela va durer....Pittsburg Samedi.
The other day while discussing the Leafs game with several habs fans i pointed out that Price played great & he's the one who kept the game close. They looked at me like i had just returned from Mars and pointed out that the habs outshot the Leafs and Price still let in three goals on only 26 shots. Good point. Maybe they were also correct in pointing out that Freddie Anderssen is the one who deserved the laurels, stopping 34 out of 36 shots.

They also mentioned that they were sick n' tired of people crediting Price whenever the game is close or when the habs win. "Isn't that why they're paying him $10.5 a season?", they asked. Indeed they were correct. Carey Price is the highest paid goaltender in the history of hockey & SHOULD be expected to stop every puck shot at his net. That's his job. I realized and admitted i and others had it all wrong all along in the past whenever we'd praise a high-paid goaltender's performance. I also swore i would never again praise Carey Price's future performances since that's why he's getting paid the big bucks. These habs fans made a very good point and i will support it.

As a Leafs fan i'm extremely satisfied to say that we have a goaltender who in my mind is as good if not better than Carey Price at the present time in our history and the best part of all is that he's barely making half the money the habs are paying (wasting??) Carey Price.

Go Leafs Go!!!

I watched the Habs / Leafs game, thought they were going to win. They played better than I expected, I think shots on goal after reg time was 32 to 21 for Habs, not bad at all.

Agree with gaby. From what I saw Price faced tougher shots from more skilled players. Based on what I saw of the play, everything else being equal, if you swapped goalies, it would have been 5-0 Leafs.

I'm not really a Price apologist, he wasn't good last year....but he can't win games by himself....unless he can score on the power play

Personally i found that Jonathan Drouin had an awful game against the Leafs. Trying to stickhandle his way around 2 or 3 players, staying on the ice too long & what the hell was he thinking coming off the ice in OT when the Leafs were in possession of the puck about to enter the Habs zone? This boneheaded move led to Matthews' game-winning goal a few seconds later.

Drouin better wake up & start playing better or else the habs will regret trading away prized-prospect Sergachev for him! If the habs are to improve & play better Drouin has to be much better than he's shown so far!

Oh boy...my prediction was 5-1 Pens.....sorry....juste le contraire :behindsofa:...Habs played perfectly....et ont donné une lecon aux Pens......vraiment surprenant début de saison et Price demeure solide,,,,,Murray 11 goals in 2 games...they will have to fix that soon...

Claude Julien now seems much more comfortable.
