Miss America pageant has decided to scrap the swimsuit part of its competition. “People actually like the talent part of the competition" says the new chairperson of the competition. Really. Does any male out there actually watch this? I always thought this was a show created for females to watch to judge other females. Do females talk more about the talent of the competitors or their looks? Based on my small sample size at work, I would say women are more interested in the looks/dress of the women in the competition than their talent.

Look behind you.
The show was mostly for kids, my guess.

It’s going to backfire. If beauty doesn’t count nobody will have any interest in watching a dog show. The ratings will be a disaster. Who came up with this idea???

I think this was Gretchen Carlson's idea, the new chairperson of the pageant. You may remember Gretchen Carlson of Fox News Fame, who was on a mindless morning show on Fox with 2 other mindless men, who complained she needed her own show to truely showcase her talents.

She got her own show, but after 1 year her show was the lowest rated show on Fox so it was not renewed. She then got angry and sued the Fox Chairman for sexual harassment (only 1 year earlier she praised him and said she owed so much of her success to him.)

Congratulations Gretchen - You had the lowest rated show on Fox and now you will have the lowest rated Miss America pageant.

I don't think men care much anyway, ............................

I don't think men are men anymore anyways.
Just look at Denmark and province of Quebec.
And the whole society nowadays.

You just can't appreciate a woman's beauty anymore without being put up against the wall as a sexual harasser.

I think the whole idea of pageants is out-dated. Its not about gender politics, I just think they are not relevant and haven't been for a long time. Just like Playboy and similar magazines were rendered obsolete in the Information age, I don't think people care about pageants anymore.

What really pisses me off is removal of eye candy like F1 grid girls and booth models at trade shows. I always thought of those jobs as a win-win, they entertain the public (mainly guys I know) and they provide modeling jobs which are already scarce and very competitive.

What's not being understood here is that really hot women enjoy a competition in which to flaunt and showcase their looks and body. You guys may not know this but modelling agencies, in order to stimulate applications, will sponsor mini local beauty competitions. I remember an incident that stemmed from such a competition many years ago. The girl who won had showed up with a girlfriend who was passionated about being a model, to support her friend. The soon to be winner, who had no intention to participate and compete but just to be there for a friend, suddenly had an application shoved in her face and was asked to sign it. The girl happened to be 17 years old, and her parents were not around, but she signed an application stating she was at least 18 on her own. She did not think she would win, did not think it would be a big deal, and would better support her friend if she was in the competition with her. She then won the competition, which attracted around 300 girls, with the Grand Prize being an all expense paid weekend trip to NYC.

Well, you can predict what happened. This was early in the Facebook Age, and word soon got out that the winner was underaged. She was busted by Facebook. The agency had a Facebook page and someone complained that the winner was ineligible. The agency eventually confronted the mother who admitted the truth, and the winner was forced to forfeit the prize and the win. The runner up, who was an 18 year old, was given the title and the prize. I think modelling agencies still do these competitions.

Trump sold all his pageants in 2015. I think Miss Universe will survive. It has the hottest chicks from all around the globe. I don't think "a talent" is even necessary. I still get excited seeing those hot Latina chicas from S. America and the super smokin chicks from Eastern Europe.
