I saw this Story this a.m. on CBS.

I Searched MERB for Ocasek (Ric), Died, Cars, and found no mention of Ric Ocasek Lead Singer for the Rock Band The Cars. Ric died September 15th, 2019. I thought there was a Thread, but maybe it was deleted.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/superm...s-really-freaking-hard-to-be-a-woman-over-50/

“The face on this fashion shoot is likely familiar. Paulina Porizkova was a cover girl in the 1980s and '90s. Now, 54, the supermodel is on assignment again, as "Sunday Morning" witnessed for Harper's Bazaar

"You haven't always loved modeling," said "CBS This Morning" co-host Anthony Mason.

"It's true; I don't really love modeling," Porizkova replied. "But what it afforded me was the world....”

She was just 17 when she made her first appearance in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, in 1983.

The Cars' front man, Ric Ocasek, was also of Czech descent. He was 40. She was 19 (when they Met)

Her husband, Ric Ocasek, had just died last September. It was Porizkova who found him. "It was horrifying. It was the worst moment in my life," she said.

They had two sons together, but had been separated since 2017.

Mason asked, "You said the age difference became a problem?"

"Suddenly in our marriage it seemed like only one of us wanted to be married," Porizkova said, "and that was me! I just know that it's really hard to be married to somebody if you're the only one putting in all the work. And maybe it was age; maybe he just was tired. Maybe I was too – maybe I took too much energy to love. I don't know. It's possible."

"You were separated, but you still lived together?" Mason asked.

"Yeah. He was still the man that I loved and that I had grown up with. And I couldn't really imagine life without him."

She'd even accompanied Ocasek when The Cars were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. She wanted, she says, to stay friends: "Because I couldn't imagine not," she said, tearing up. "I didn't know how life would work that way."

They'd begun divorce proceedings when Ocasek died suddenly. But the real shock came when Porizkova, who says she put all of her modeling earnings into the marriage, learned she'd been cut out of her husband's will, along with two of his children from an earlier marriage: "It's made the grieving process really, really tricky. Because I would love to just be able to be sad and miss him, and not also feel this incredible hurt of his betrayal."

Mason asked, "You feel betrayed?"

"Oh, oh yeah. I feel betrayed. I sure do."

"Do you have any sense of why he would have gotten to that point?"

"No."

"So, you're not gonna get an answer to that question."

"I'm never gonna get an answer. And that sucks."

It's hard to be so desired at one point and then not being looked at the same way anymore. That's what she should have mentioned. If she would have been very average looking she wouldn't have the same discourse.

Here is the reality when it comes to women which many does not want to admit especially those who subscribe the feminist mindset. From 18 to 29 a woman's value is at its highest. Once she hits 30 it is a slow down hill from there and she gets less and less attention. By 34/35 she is going to hit that wall where she is going to be pretty much ignored. There are some exceptions but they are the rare few that can pass beyond 35 and still be desirable. Now if she is into hardcore drugs and drinking she hits that wall way earlier and by the time she is 30 she looks 40.

As for Paulina. She made it out pretty well and given that she was a well sought out model when she was young she most likely made a butt load of money and she probably wouldn't need her husband's fortune. We don't know what went on in that marriage and if the husband left her out of the will there must be a reason which we would probably not know anything about as to why that is so.

My man.
Maybe that was the husband's reasoning, she doesn't need anything from me. Besides, they weren't even together. She was simply still in love with him but it wasn't reciprocal.

It is the internet world we live in now. I hardly know any stars or models under 30 years old. Models and movie stars have of today are flashes in the pan.

Clearly she became a flash in the pan for Ric. As I recall she was in one of the Cars videos. We seem to have some young posters in this thread not appreciative of the Cars impact on the music scene in the 1970s and 1980s. Ric Ocasek is discussed as though he was some nobody. He and the Cars are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They were probably the premiere mainstream band to emerge from the punk movement (along with the Talking Heads and The Clash). Their first couple of albums were outstanding. Their later work more successful and more commercial. Ocasek was their frontman and songwriter for most of their hits and the nucleus of the band, but I recall from interviews he actually seemed somewhat normal for a rock star dude. As normal as you are gonna get anyway. Seemed like a guy you could have beers with and didn’t seem to take himself too seriously despite major stardom at that time.

Yeah I was having a conversation about this with a girl at my old job. She told she had been noticing that the older women customers( 40+) always seemed to look depressed and lifeless. I told her it might be due to fact that they get a lot less attention than they used to when they were younger. I thought she would argue with me on this point but she actually agreed that it's likely one of the reasons.
Serge Gainsbourg said La laideur est certainement supérieure à la beauté, car au moins elle dure. haha
Appreciate it while it lasts, I know I do.

i dont want to be harsh, but i find she did not age well at all. She lost the 'look' well before the end of her thirties. whereas some women can remain very attractive and desirable well into their 40s (jennifer lopez comes to minnd). Then there is another category where women may lose their sexual attractiveness but remain very beautiful into the 50s and 60s (like sophia loren, jane fonda,...)

Being a model is like being an athlete, if your body aint working for you anymore, your career is over. Sorry not sorry, you had your career, you made your money, its the reality of the situation. For you its hard to be 50, but for the average woman their life is pretty much the same.

Yeah. She just needs a little Botox and maybe a nip and tuck here and there.

Ric Ocasek lived in New York City when he died. He was reportedly worth 80 Million at that time. I doubt that Paulina had contributed to the marriage for almost 30+ years. In fact, as was most likely the case, after her modeling career tanked, she would have been sucking off Ric for those 30+ years (to the tune of millions of dollars per year) while Ric would have been receiving royalties from Cars' classics for the entire length of their marriage. Rick was both singer and song writer on many Cars' hits. KaChing!!! She is claiming that Rick cut her out of his will all together along with his 2 estranged sons from an earlier marriage. As to her inheritance from Ric's will maybe he totally cut her out, but that's not likely to be the case in the subsequent divorce proceedings, since New York State has a quasi Equitable form of distribution. Reportedly they both filed for divorce shortly before his death. https://www.divorcenet.com/resource...perty-division/new-york-divorce-dividing-prop Their NYC home was put on the market for $13.9Mill just after Ric's death. https://streeteasy.com/blog/ric-ocasek-gramercy-park-townhouse/ I don't think anyone should be worrying about Paulina in the future. Maybe she will have to cut back on some of her spending. I'm sure there will be plenty of guys who fantasized about her in the 80's who would still be willing to part ways with some of their millions just to have a fantasy fuck with her.

I'm always thinking when I read these that it's payback time for them....

They surfed on their beauty for quite a while and were probably very selective themselves as they could get anyone/anything they wanted. And now, it's the return of the pendulum.... I don't feel sorry...

For a woman who built her career on her skills or her brains, they are probably in the sweet spot in their 50s, having lots of experience and being very skilled and employable, especially in the skills shortage employment market that we have right now. Poriskova could count on her knowledge of the modeling world to become an agent, or a trainer, or an adviser of some kind. But she's still trying to surf on what gave her success in the past. For those who built it on their beauty and didn't think of a plan B for later on, this had to be expected....

We see this very often in some woman who are very arrogant in their 20s and who fall off their pedestal as they are aging. They frequently become very bitter. Well.... appearances certainly has its importance, but inter-personal skills and know-how are paramount!

Paulina Porizkova used to be the hottest looking woman in a bikini back in the early 80's. Oh how i fantasized about her! I began buying Sports Illustrated because of the bikini issue covers she'd be on! And how disappointed i was when i learned she had married the tall guy from The Cars! A couple of decades later i saw her again on Dancing With the Stars and to my great shock i was no longer turned on to her! She was now a middle-aged woman and the last thing i now wanted was to see her in a bikini! Oh, how times change and how times have changed......

^^^ It's probably life style creep. She is probably used to living like one of the royal family. Can she retire live off a small pension and ~1 million in 401K savings? In the USA this is a nice retirement. I'm just thinking of the kind of money she earned and what did she do with it? Remember the University of Texas QB standout Vince Young? He would book a commercial flight on an airplane and buy all the seats because he didn't want to have to be bothered by acknowledging fans. He was able to burn through $64 MM USD in a few short years.

Paulina's 1988 Estee Lauder contract was $6,000,000 USD. If she would of paid taxes and invested a million in an index fund where would she be?

They have to live the life of the mega rich / mega stars, otherwise they feel inadequate. It makes them feel bad to live in a $2 million home when everyone else around them live in $50-100 million homes. When they stop earning their resources are drained away.

Some women mid 50s have the stunning looks and can do ads for $200 bottle of perfume or $95 bottles of cow placenta face creams. Paulina is still OK, if she is lucky she will get a toilet bowl cleaner ad.

With photoshop these days, they can make a 100yo sexy... she should not worry too much about the images she'll generate. It's the possibility of getting contracts... those who shoot her see her in real!
