Rumples,

Swisher just went through a 35 at bat stretch in which he struck out 18 times. I mean this kind of "feast or famine" hacking would make Dave Kingman and Rob Deer blush. No runs are getting produced when a guy goes 4-40 with 20 strikeouts. He is, however, producing K stats for opposing pitchers.

I read on one of the other boards a theory that all of Swisher's strikeouts and .120 batting average at Yankee Stadium are due to home run lust at Yankee Stadium. That's the easy explanation. What I am seeing is he gets to two strikes and then pitchers throw him pitches he is not looking for and he swings and misses by a lot. As a long time fan and baseball purist, I am annoyed by these at bats. Swisher does seem to have a very nice natural swing, which makes the deluge of strikeouts much more puzzling to me. I have concluded he has poor instincts to be able to hit with 2 strikes and pitchers take advantage of him if they change speeds and are around the plate with the 2 strike pitch. He is not a tough out for a good pitcher.

LOL,

Kind of like when a guy hits 115 points below his career average he's A-Burden.

Yet, in the end, he's still on pace to put up the numbers I quoted above. If you go back to the beginning of the season, after 10 games, he was hitting .406, with a .486 OBP, and a 1.486 OPS with 4 hrs , 11 runs, 11 rbi, and 5 doubles. The Yankees won five of those games thanks, in large part, to Nick Swisher.

There are a lot of streaky player in baseball; probably the streakiest player I've seen in recent years, just from recollection not research, is Hideki Matsui. When the guy's going good, he hits everything; when he's going bad, he's a ground ball machine. BTW, I'd rather see a guy K than hit into a 6-4-3.

Don't know what you're reading, Beav, but if you want to hang out with the smart Yankee fans, the place is http://www.bronxbanterblog.com/.

Actually, many analysts have blamed the obscene free agent starting pitcher salaries that have been bestowed the last two years on none other than the K.C. Royals...

Who are those so-called 'analysts'? Are they based in New York?

Also Beav how many times has Swisher been caught looking at a called 3rd strike, I don't know if there is a stat for this but I bet that he would be leading the majors or be right up there, clearly Nady is the better player hands down and once he gets back he will be mashing the ball like he did last year.

Swisher will excel at what he does best which will be pinch hitting and the occasional spot start, once again rumples is dead wrong which doesn't surprise me anymore.

(shaking head) and

one thing you are forgetting Rummpy, Nady was not playing on Teams in the Past that were the offensive Juggernaut such as the NYY.. he played for teams struggling to score runs or were avg offensive teams

In 89 games with the Pirates last yr he drove in 57 runs, in 30 fewer games with the Yanks he drove in 40, and that calculated to 100 fewer at bats with the Yanks as well, do the math einstein, also his and Swishers obp, ops , and slugging percentage, are within a few points career wise of each others, and thats with Nick playing for Oakland and Chicago, who are alot more offensive minded than the teams Nady played for before he became a Yankee

i Love Swish, but it's nice to prove a red sux fan wrong , and with you, its soooooooo E A S Y!!!! :p

HUGS?

By the way, Beav, Swisher is on pace to score 95 runs and knock in 88. Those are championship caliber numbers for a guy who hits seventh. And they're numbers that Xavier Nady can only dream about.

You can ramble on about all the crap that John and Suzyn drool over, but the last time I looked the team that scored the most runs was the one that wins the game. Swisher is a run producer; Nady is not.

with a Yanks victory tonight and a red sux's loss today, Yanks are finally back where they belong, FIRST PLACE! ....... AJ pitched a good game, Matsui homered twice and big Mark Texiera continued his hot hitting, former sux Kevin Cash called a great game behind the plate and had a couple more hits, btw, what a tremendous job yankee catchers have done filling in for Posada and Molina, like WOW!......... GO YANKEES!

I'm not happy about the fact that the Red Sox still have the better looking female sports reporter then the Yankees, Heidi Watney to our Susan Waldman and Kim Jones, at least the Red Sox can find some solace in that:D.

Kim Jones is actually a really good reporter. She also is, more than the other YES reporters, not afraid to ask semi-tough questions of the Yankees players who usually handle softball toss lobs only when interviewed on YES. I don't think she is ugly, but JT I agree that Watney is much hotter than Jones and certainly more hotter than Susan Waldman.

Looks like the Doc will pull for the Red Sox in their game against the Evil Empire tonight. Even the Doc can't lower his standards to that level! ;)

I was ecstatic when i got home to check the game & discovered that redneck AJ Burnout had appealed his suspension in order to pitch tonight's game. The Yankees should have protested the move & force him to sit out this series.

Well, he didn't even last 3 innings, allowing 5 runs & walking 5. He was all over the place & had to be mercifully yanked after throwing nearly 90 pitches!!!!

The guy simply CANNOT pitch under any type of pressure whatsoever. He's such a loser!!
