Gaby did you ever see his father Tie Domi play? One can say that the vicious apple does not fall far from a very aggressive tree of hockey players.

Is it only me who see the Panthers going far this year? I am no expert but I see them as strong as the Jets or Vegas.

Cheers,

Drouin faulted Ekblad for not trying to protect himself. Ekblad, I suspect, was just trying to avoid the usual retaliation penalty.

There simply is no reason to fight in hockey anymore. The NHL has pretty much phased out the so-called 'enforcer'. Ekblad isn't even a fighter so it would have been ridiculous for him to unecessarily drop the gloves in a game that means nothing. Dropping the gloves also invites injury and a possible concussion. With all the concussion lawsuits piling onto the NHL over the past few years it's not surprising why the league took matters into their own hands in trying to eliminate fighting. Today even two so-called 'enforcers' fighting in an exhibition game i'd consider stupid.

By the way the Panthers will have a good team this season. But no way will they be anywhere close to be dubbed 'contenders'.

^^^^ It was a cheap shot, for the suspension it is a joke, missing 5 preseason games.....really. IMO when a player gets a suspension the games should be taken when they play the team the penalty was against and not preseason.

Yamamoto actually made the Oilers team to start the 2017-18 season, but was returned to Spokane Chiefs after 9 games for reasons that are not clear, but presumably because it was believed he needed further development. In his last game before going to Spokane he had 3 assists. He has drawn comparisons to Johnny Gaudreau of Calgary on his playing style.

Talbots is one of these guys who is up and down like a yo-yo, you never know what you will get. Unfortunately there are a bunch of goalies like this and it’s hard to find guys who play at an elite level very consistently. There are only a few such goalies in the entire league.

My post #2, Ka-ching...... Just because I like to share wealth I am will to sell said ticket for $1,500.00. That is a tidy $1,000.00 profit for someone. This may crash the system with requests so not all at once to reply please.

Brian Burke predicted Nylander would sign a couple of days before the official start of the season since that's when he'll start to lose money. He also pointed out that Nylander has the same agent as Johnny Gaudreau. Burked pointed out that when he was with the Flames he had the same contract squabble with Gaudreau as the Leafs are having with Nylander and that's what happened: Gaudreau signed a couple of days before the start of the season.

The thing is....the Leafs have all the power in those negotiations. And if Nylander doesn't realize this then his agent isn't doing his job. Unless there's a team out there who signs Nylander to an offer sheet then he's at the Leafs' mercy. And a team signing him to an offer sheet knows fully well that the Leafs would likely match it so that's why it hasn't happened yet.

This is similar to the Phil Kessel situation a few years ago when he was having contractual problems with the Bruins. He then demanded to be traded and that's when Brian Burke and the Leafs came in and signed him (with Boston's permission) and gave Boston several top picks (incl. Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton) in return.

Maybe that's why Brian Burke said the other night that Nylander should maybe demand a trade if he's truly not happy with what the Leafs are offering. Maybe a similar scenario to Phil Kessel's with the Bruins could happen if the Leafs realize Nylander will remain unhappy no matter what they decide to give him. Or maybe they'll just tell him to stay home & watch the games on tv until he decides to come back to play hockey.

I know what you're thinking. What if Doc Holliday is the Leafs' GM? I'd sign Nylander to a bridge contract & order Mike Babcock to put him on the third or fourth lines and give him zero power play time....for the rest of the regular season. This way his value will go down since he won't get as many points as he should and it'll put the team in a better bargaining position in order to renegotiate his contract into a team-friendly long-term one.

It seems like Montreal Habs will open in Toronto Wednesday night but the only game being televised here, by NBCSN, is Boston Bruins at Washington Capitals. So we will not get to see the Canadian teams play.
