Nylander could be trade to Canes for Brett Pesce....this would be a good deal for both teams.......Kings are also ready to offer Muzzin and Tanner Pearson.

Quenneville's firing is quite surprising to me since i always figured they'd wait until the end of the season to do it.

What's even more surprising is who they replaced him with. Jeremy Colliton was named the team’s new bench boss. He's only 33 years old and becomes the youngest head coach currently in the NHL.

Jeremy who???

It wasn’t just Quenneville. Kevin Dineen and Ulf Samuelsson, assistant coaches, were also fired. Dineen is a beloved former Hartford Whalers player and Samuelsson a beloved former player of the NY Rangers. They are now unemployed.

Maybe Dineen can go back coaching women's hockey which he was very good at.

Upon further reflection this firing is a disgrace! Joel Quenneville deserved better! Were it not for him i really doubt the Hawks would have won those Cups and were it not for him they wouldn't have been as relevant as they currently are around the Chicago community. It's a travesty!

Kyle Dubas is as quiet as Lou Lamoriello was when it comes to upcoming moves. That's why i doubt Nylander would get traded to the Canes. Who knows it's possible Toronto created that rumour in order to get Nylander to sign or get other teams interested in a possible deal.

I was told by an insider that the problem in trying to re-sign him isn't necessarily Nylander or his agent. It's his father, former NHLer Michael Nylander.

By the way if i'm Dubas one player that MUST be part of a Nylander trade would be Sebastian Aho. I'm also hearing the name Dougie Hamilton but Aho MUST be part of a potential deal.

Upon further reflection this firing is a disgrace! Joel Quenneville deserved better!

Quenneville carried 3rd best odds to get fired preseason and the team he is leading has rather painfully underachieved. I think as Gaby said he lost the fire and needs some time off and Chicago management has accommodated that need. They need a new voice in that lockerroom. His was not reaching the players. Don’t feel sorry for him, he will take a year or two off and be a TV analyst and will come back after a year or two when a plum job opens and the money offer is good. Quenneville isn’t exactly going to starve in the interim.

I feel worse for Kevin and Ulf. How was any of this their fault? You want to talk about good guys in the community, these guys were pillars. The Whalers never had a more popular player than Dineen, except maybe Ron Francis.

There is no way Carolina would trade Aho straight up for Nylander. Not happening!

Why not?? The majority of people would say that Nylander is a superior talent to Aho.

On top of that Aho will be in the same position next season as Nylander currently is: he'll be a restricted free agent. He might end up costing the Canes more than Nylander will. And considering that the Canes are a penny-pinching team they'll probably end up having to trade Aho anyways since that's what the organization does with players it deems too expensive for them.

By taking on Nylander, a player they are strongly rumoured to be seeking, in return for Aho......Toronto would actually be doing them a favor since they'd be taking a future expensive contract negotiation off their hands. There is zero chances Carolina would take on both Nylander and Aho's contracts and Aho is likely to be the one traded. So that's why he'd be a good candidate to be moved.

The reason i said that i was pissed at the way Stan Bowman dismissed Joel Quenneville is for the fact the Hawks owe a lot of their past success to him & he will be a shoe-in for the Hockey Hall-of-Fame in the near future. Quenneville is as classy & respected as anyone gets & has coached the Blackhawks for as long as i can remember. Didn't he replace Denis Savard?

Bowman has tried to get rid of him for quite some time but what prevented him from doing it was Quenneville's success & winning Stanley Cups. He should have got rid of him before the season began or wait until it was over.

Quenneville will now happily be relaxing at home with his $6 million annual contract and take his time studying offers which will come his way.

NBCSN is carrying Pitt-Washington as the game of the night and Crosby and Ovechkin have scored virtually identical power play goals for a 1-1 tie at this point.

Pens have been struggling but they will likely patch things together. They need better goaltending in the near future...

Jack Hughes Sweepstakes Update

It is time to update the all important Jack Hughes sweepstakes, as the team who wins the sweepstakes will be a team to watch in the future.

Unfortunately for Habs fans they are not in the sweepstakes at the moment. However the team that is currently leading the sweepstakes is the LA Kings, which is tied for the fewest points in the NHL and leads in NGD (negative goals differential). Second in NGD would be the Detroit Red Wings. I like the chances of these two teams to land Hughes.

3 other teams in the sweepstakes are the Florida Panthers (tied with LA for fewest points), the St. Louis Bues and the NJ Devils, who have cooled off rather dramatically after a great start.

I think Detroit, Florida and LA will duel all season for the right to draft Mr. Hughes. A dark horse is the NY Rangers, who have performed a little better than expected, taking them out of the leading contender status but with 15 points they are close enough to the bottom to sink there in a hurry. The Habs, with 19 points, would have to plunge like an anchor in order to get back in the hunt, but they seem to have done just enough to tread water and maintain dreaded "mediocre" status, which is too good for Hughes but not good enough for playoffs. This is a status no team really wants.
