Again correct me if I'm wrong here, but am I correct that the Leafs, then, despite their torrid start are not on a make-the-playoffs pace? And correct me if I'm wrong again, but wouldn't 10th place be considered a good season for the Leafs in view of their history?

At their current pace, Yes and Yes.

Looks like they are currently 20th out of 30 teams...stepped up 9 spots from last years 29th place finish so far...

I've been off the grid traveling the world recently but how have the Leaf's been doing since their blazing 4-0 start?

Well I am no mathematician but if they started 4 - 0 and are now 5 - 5 - 2 ... that means after the rocket came out of the gate it sputtered to 1 - 5 - 2 ... does that add up Iggy?

Have fun,

Jman

I need to know something else. Please bear with me as I'm a newbie to this game. The Leafs ALMOST didn't lose last night so they got one point in the standings. However, the team they ALMOST didn't lose to really, really sucks and the Leafs were playing at home. Would you call this a big night for the Leafs, since they still got a point despite the humiliating loss at the hands of the Buffalo Bisons?

I have an opinion on this Rumples but I feel it's wiser to wait for a pronouncement from a true proud Leafs fan such as lggy.

For some strange reason he has only posted in this thread twice in all of November, which I can't understand, since he was posting very frequently at the start of the season. Since he is a true Leafs fan, I am certain that his recent lack of productivity has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the Leafs won their first four games but have now won only one of their last nine.

Personally, I am proud to say that I have NOT lost faith in the Leafs and that I am bravely standing by my earlier prediction that if all goes well they STILL might be able to finish in the top 25 by the end of the season, thereby vastly improving on their 29th place finish last year. Go Leafs go!

(by the way, they're the Buffalo SABRES, not Bisons.
As I said, Doc, as I spend more and more time in Canada, I'm trying to learn more about the national game, which is why I ask these questions. I thought the Buffalo team had the same name as Buffalo's baseball team.

Doesnt Alex K already play hockey for the habs? but i am sure you could teach "HIM" something lol.

About last nights game, ya know, it broght back memories of the 2009/2010 season, letting that 2nd point slip away with 13 seconds to go after AGAIN outplaying their opponent, something the Leafs have done in all but 2 games this season and once again coming up short. BUT, as the announcers pointed out, take the point at least and there are still 69 games to go. And after last year, being only 2 points out of a playoff spot on Nov. 7th is light years better than last. Growing pains for sure, they outplay the other team night after night, and with the addition of 1 or 2 new players, this team is gonna contend, but finding those 2 players if tough for anyone, i think we have them in the minors but it takes time to develope them, so look for Mr. Burke to make some kind of trade if the scoring doesnt pick up soon, the problem is teams are not yet ready to hit the panic button and make trades, and i do not blame them, the season is young and everyone is still in the playoff hunt...long season, plenty of time left but points right now are so valuable, so one point at least is still a must for teams like the Leafs and others who will fight tooth and nail to make the playoffs. Man i Love Hockey!

The Defense is strong and doing it's job pretty well, and like everyone says or said, this Leafs team is in its first real season as Burkes team and even tho we as fans and as management has said, the goal is to just make the playoffs, the others have predicted we wont, so hang on for the ride folks, i stand by them and they will make the playoffs this season.

I see. Interested in attending a Leafs hockey game together in a few months? I promise you'll learn from one of the top hockey minds on Merb......heck, i even got Alex K interested in hockey he who had never even watched or attended a single hockey game in his entire life until two years ago! :D

Once again, your hockey wisdom is impressive & i totally agree with you. Leaf fans are the wisest of all hockey fans, after all. I'm looking at the overall standings and the Leafs are ahead of the Devils & tied with the Sharks. If someone would have told me this at the start of the season, i never would have believed them. I realize that our team is improving & on the right track. They're better than their record indicates, but their bad luck will go away eventually & they'll start racking up the wins. I'm proud to be a fan of the Leafs, the #1 favorite team of all die-hard hockey fans in Canada! Go Leafs Go! :D

Thank you for mentionning the Senators, an expansion team that made it to the big finale in 2007, and made the playoffs 12 times since the 1996-97 to the Leaf's 6 times :D.

I gotta admire you Loafs fans: I spent between 1982 to 1996 in Toronto watching my friends there cry in their beer game after game, yet still be-Leafing. Montreal is doing marginally better, but their fan base is almost just as incredible: they would never put up with the Alouettes being so mediocre, and they deserted the Expos en masse when they were no longer a winner.

So you see rumples, hockey is our true national sport and you have a while yet to understand the psyche of the fans. I was born here and I am still giving my head a shake.

Go Sens go!

I do hope for the sake of pro hockey teams in Canada that the Sens make the playoffs or else they risk losing the fans & thus risk losing the team. I still can't understand the fact they built their arena 20 miles from downtown Ottawa......it's a hassle to go to games there.....you nearly always have to drive there. If the team starts losing, the fans won't bother driving all the way there to watch a losing team.....they don't have the same passion as fans in Toronto & Montreal.

You're oversimplifying, my friend. There were numerous extenuating circumstances, but this is not the thread for that.

Nov. 20th Rumples, Satruday night, Bell Centre, 7pm, national broadcast on Hockey Night In Canada, be there. Bring $200 for a seat in the reds and experience the intensity of the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry,NHL style!. (wow, what a first game to attend, you will be forever spoiled) Hey Doc, you should of bought that Phaneuf jersey last month so Rumples could of worn your Beauchemin jersey. :)

I'd be delighted. I'll even root for them.

Everytime my buddy and i make the short drive to Ottawa to see a game, i always say "here we go, off to the hayfield" ... your right, it is not a great atmosphere to see a game, but it has to be better than anywhere in the southern US markets like Carolina, Atlanta or Florida. They have built up the area around Scotiabank Place but not anywhere near enough to be able to have alot of fun before or after the game like in Toronto or Montreal, heck it was more fun going to the Ottawa Civic Centre before SBP was built!... At least in DT Ottawa there are clubs you can walk to or cab it, nothing like that in the "Hayfield"

$200 for hockey???? I wouldn't spend $200 for the All-Saskatchwan Midget Curling and Girls Jello Wrestling Championship. Actually, I've been to hockey games in the past. Went to several NY Ranger games at the Garden when I was a kid.

Marlies to the rescue! Leafs call up Kadri & Aulie

Nazem Kadri and Keith Aulie were called up to the Toronto Maple Leafs today from the Toronto Marlies. Both are expected to be in the lineup in their next game.

Iggy was traveling in the warm weather the last few days..:) Not sure Kadri is ready but we shall soon see. (ps jhfan, you didnt need to tell me i get under your skin, i already knew that, it is quite obvious, lol)

Now , please post in the correct thread with your taunts, unless you wanna sit in the penalty box, Again.

Funny I was gonna write a long one about all the reasons to take it easy and cheer up that the Leafs are bound to get better.... and you know what ?

There is one positive thing I can say for the Leafs :

I see less and less of Iggy's post. :)
