Agree with Doc on some points and November, the Leafs are being patient since Burke got here and Nonis and Shanny are staying true to the course and developing their youngsters.

Is Nonis on his way out?

With Mark Hunter having recently being hired as Director of Player Personnel, many Leafs insiders believe that the writing's on the wall that Dave Nonis' days with the Leafs are numbered. There have been many changes in the Leafs' front office over the past few months. They fired Nonis' assistants Claude Loiselle & Dave Poullin, fired the entire assistant coaching staff (except goalie coach Rick St-Croix) and Tim Leiweike announced that he would be leaving the organization at the end of his current contract, scheduled to expire next June. Many believe Leiweike will leave sooner & word is that the MLSE board would dearly love for him to vacate the premises a.s.a.p.

Nonis was never Shanahan's man & neither was he Leiweike's. He was hired by his buddy Brian Burke & there is no doubt there'd be a job waiting for him in Calgary once his term with the Leafs is done.

Nonis has always been a good soldier, but i have no doubt that like Carlyle, he has a feeling that his days with the organization may be numbered. Management literally told Carlyle that this may be his last season when they went against his wishes and fired his assistants, especially Dave Farrish, who coached with Carlyle for most of his career. They then re-signed defenceman Jake Gardiner to a long-term deal. It's no secret that Gardiner has never been one of Carlyle's favorite players due to his defensive deficiencies. Gardiner has recently been re-inserted into the lineup & i wonder if they're not forcing Carlyle to play him in order to show him off to teams who may one day be trading partners. Same thing with Kadri, whom in my opinion has not earned the right to play in front of the likes of Trevor Smith & Peter Holland, among others. Why Kadri hasn't been benched yet is beyond me!

I expect the Leafs' front office & coaching staff to possibly have a new look next season. Or sooner.

Leafs host the Sabres tonite, always a tough opponent over the years. Underrated rivalry. Leafs have been terrible at home so far and it wouldn't shock me if the Sabres left with 2 pts.

The game can't be more boring than last Saturday's game, that's for sure.

I have been positive. And truthful. There's nothing more positive than honesty where both sides agree on something, right? ;)

What can i say.....my motto has always been to 'tell it like it is'. :D

p.s. I did mention that i wouldn't be disappointed if the Sabres left with two points, but it doesn't mean i believe it'll happen. I just wagered $100 on the Leafs a few minutes ago, so i've got my fingers crossed for tonight's game! :D

Leafs looking great so far. Badly outshooting Buffalo after two periods, but only leading by a goal, scored by Tyler Bozak on a breakaway. Buffalo's goalie has been both opportunistic and phenomenal at times. Phaneuf looked like he had suffered a very serious knee injury late in the 2nd (replay showed his right knee bending sideways), but surprisingly he's back on the ice for the third period. Man, he's tough! :)

This game tonight could have easily been 8-0 and possibly more

I agree. Buffalo is absolutely awful. You wonder what Gionta & Gorges must have been thinking when they agreed to join the Sabres. Same thing with Matt Moulson. I have a feeling that those players may get traded this season.

Agreed. I cant stand buffalo almost as much as montreal and detroit but they are gonna be a good team in 3-4 years especially if the tank continues this season and they end of with either Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel.

Tyler Myers is another one who might leave the organization sooner than later. He's regressed since his rookie year and is currently overpaid.

Interesting tidbit from last night's game:

Total shots on goal:

Buffalo Sabres 10
Joffrey Lupul: 9

For the record, Toronto had 37 shots.

When you get your ass handed to you by the leafs in such a ridiculous manner, there is definately something wrong with your team.. oh boy. If i where the sabres i would be totally ashamed.

Those 10 shots against tied a Leafs record for fewest shots allowed in a regular season game.

Tied? I heard during the game last night that the previous record was 13 shots. I believe 10 shots is the new team record.

p.s. And that 10th shot was a gift by the official scorer. It was a lame wrist shot to the side of the net that Bernier simply brushed back with his goalie stick. It wouldn't have even entered the net had the net been empty. Also, Montreal didn't have many shots either against the Flames last night, but once again Carey Price saved the fort & the habs walked away from the game with highway robbery. They now have 1 goal in their past two games.

Injury-prone forward Joffrey Lupul broke his hand at practice the other day after stepping on a stick and falling hard. He figured he'd be good to play yesterday, but his hand swelled up overnight & that's when he realized the hand problem was more serious than he thought. His return is undetermined. Unfortunate, since he had recently been playing fantastic hockey.

On a different note, one of the best Leafs all season long has been David Clarkson. Funny that no one is mentionning anything about his contract anymore. Same with Dion Phaneuf.

The best player all season long has been Phil "The Flash" Kessel. Great goal scorer & great playmaker. I can't believe some of the sick passes he's made so far this season. Announcers often mention that he's one of the most underrated passers in the NHL and i agree. What a steal for the Leafs!! Brian Burke should have been sent to prison for commiting such a one-sided heist!!

Love Clarksons game now that he is "back" to being himself and that contract will prove to be a good deal before all is said and done, he is a true heart and soul guy with many intangible skills that are earned through hard work with his meat and potatoes brand of hockey and dont touch anyones "f****ing water bottle"

"what are you the bottle police?" Bwhahahahahahahahaahahaahhahha

Nobody is saying anything about Clarkson and Phaneuf's contracts is because one has to say ' nice ' things in this tread.

Just like to point that out.

Just like to point that out.

And i'm pointing out that my statement wasn't directed at this thread or this board. It was directed at the radio/tv show callers who call themselves Leafs 'fans' but contantly call to whine about their team. I'm quite aware that Montreal & other teams also have their share of whiners calling themselves 'fans' since i listen to them when they call Tony Marinaro or Chris Nilan & other phone-in shows based around the habs.

Over the past couple of weeks i've rarely heard any bitching about Clarkson or Phaneuf on the shows. I haven't even heard a single negative word about Kessel's contract since he signed it. Of course, he just happens to be one of the top players in the entire NHL, so his contract looks like a bargain now.

p.s. After Subban signed his 8-year/$72 million contract, Phaneuf's will be looked upon as a bargain in a couple of years when all the league's top defencemen (Subban finished 16th in Norris trophy balloting last season) will be asking for huge raises because Geoff Molson overruled Marc Bergevin & gave Subban all he wanted (and more) back in August.
