Leafs acquire Hobey Baker finalist Zach Hyman

Great move by the Leafs! :thumb:

Hold off on planning the parade. His first 3 seasons were very mediocre (13 goals in 113 games). His senior year numbers were padded playing with Dylan Larkin (excluding Eichel, Larkin was the best player in the NCAA last season).

Leafs players who are actively being shopped around (according to my sources):

Phil Kessel
Tyler Bozak
Joffrey Lupul
Dion Phaneuf

In other news, the Arizona Coyotes have let it known that their #1 pick (3rd overall) is available for the right price. Could the Leafs make a move to also pick up that pick?

What would it take?

Kessel for the #3, a prospect and a current Coyote player? Would the Leafs need to eat some of Phil's contract?

Bab's telling him he is moving to the 2nd line with 2nd line minutes lol.... but seriously, Kessel is one of the games best goal scorers bar none. He is in his prime now and for the next 3-4 years during the Leafs rebuild and if he wants to win then he will agree to be traded, if not then maybe we keep him and who knows, maybe he will flourish under Babcock.

Whatever the TEAM decides, i will back them as it is always TEAM FIRST over Player First in team sports.

GLG!

and what are you giving kessel to ad Glendale on his list

One rumour that has been making the rounds in sunny Sunrise, Florida is that the Leafs & the Canes might switch picks, where the Canes would get Dion Phaneuf and the Leafs would wind up with Eric Staal. If i'm the Leafs, i'm not sure i'd accept that offer.

A reliable source also just whispered to me that chances are 50/50 that Arizona will deal their pick. They have the #3 overall pick and word is if they don't trade him, it's only because they've wanted to draft Dylan Strome all along. Teams such as the Flyers and the Habs would dearly love to land that pick. But it'll be costly. My guess is that it'll cost the Habs Alex Galchenyuk, a prospect and their own first-rounder to land Arizona's #3 pick. If i'm the habs, i make that trade in a minute!

I've also been informed that the Leafs have so far refused to take some money back if they ever do deal Kessel or Phaneuf. To them, they are considered near-elite players and it'll cost any team wanting them a lot if the Leafs do decide to part with them. And who would fill the void left by those two players? Kessel is the only bonafide goal scorer on the team, and Phaneuf is a horse on defence, usually racking up 25 minutes a game. Who will fill those minutes if he goes? Tim Erixon?

Wait a second, i thought Galchenyuck was the "savior"???

The Leafs don't want Eric Staal going into the rebuild. Too old and his best years are behind him. If it meant Phaneuf for Staal and Carolina's first round pick then definately but not if they get the #4 overall of the Leafs as well.

Galchenyuk's talks with the habs came to an impasse last week and he fired his two agents, Igor Larionov being one of them. Word is that "Chucky" is looking for a long-term deal, while Larionov was more interested in a bridge deal (possibly 2 years) in order to bring up Galchenyuk's value, which took a bit of hit this season since he hasn't progressed as management had hoped for.

I agree with you, Mister 69, in regards to Phaneuf and Staal. Defence is a position that is much tougher to learn and quality defencemen are difficult to acquire. Staal's better years are behind him and he's also expensive. If the Leafs are serious about a rebuild, you don't take back a player such as Eric Staal. And if they're not serious about a rebuild, you keep Dion Phaneuf, whom Babcock really likes.

The Leafs picked local boy Mitchell Marner with their 4th overall pick. He was definitely Mark Hunter's pick. Hunter knows him well since he played for the OHL team he owns and actually drafted him for the London Knights as a midget. People who are close to Hunter tell me that he sees Marner as a Patrick Kane type.

I also like what the Leafs did later by converting their late first-round pick obtained in the Cody Franson trade into 2 second-rounders and a 3rd-rounder.

The Leafs are expected to be a busy team tomorrow when the draft resumes.

The Leafs have something big brewing, i'm told. One of the more prominent rumours is Dion Phaneuf to the Kings. Among the players coming back would be the dethroned Mike Richards, whom i'm told would be bought out by the Leafs. The Leafs are also currently talking with the Sharks.

The Leafs are getting smaller, some of their top prospects aren't big guys. Maybe they will one day call them the smurf line.lol! There will be a lot of growing pains in Leafs nation.

Size doesn't matter as much in today's hockey. Marc Bergevin is also a big believer of this. You go for the most skilled player, no matter his size. Brendan Gallagher was one of their best players. Johnny Hockey was one of Calgary's best players also. The NHL has become so fast and so skilled that 'big men' might be wondering if they're on the way out.

The Leafs are currently being visited by UFA Matt Beleskey. We've also learned that they've been in contact with UFA Cody Franson, who would dearly want to pursue his career in Toronto.

As for the Kessel to Pittsburgh rumours, the two players Toronto are interested in are Oli Maata and Derrick Pouliot. But with today's buyout of Alex Semin by the Caps, the Pens' plans to acquire Kessel to play alongside Crosby and Malkin may change and they might prefer going with the cheaper option on possibly a one-year deal.
