The Leafs have signed a few decent veterans to training camp tryouts during this offseason: Devon Setoguchi, Curtis Glencross and Brad Boyes. It's a very inexpensive gamble on their part.

It was also announced yesterday that Leafs great Mats Sundin will be the next inductee to Legends Row outside the ACC.

They will be a well coached and hard working team this year. As for Mats Sundin it's well deserved. Can't wait for the season to start.

How good is Mike Babcock and his coaching systems? His teams played the first 2 games of his Leafs career tonight, one in Toronto and one in Ottawa and ...... 2 Wins for BABS! ..... haha ok now they can start the tank for Auston Matthews or another blue chipper but for some reason it would not surprise me, barring any major injuries this season, that the good Dr. will have the Leafs near a playoff spot, but man would it be nice to get a top 5 pick again in another deep draft next june to help the rebuild even more.

Great young nuculous in the system tho with Reilly, Gardiner, Kadri, Bernier, Holland, Panik, JVR, Bibeau, Sparks, Marner, Brown, Loov, and the steal at #8 in the draft 2 years ago, William Nylander. I am sure i am forgetting some young talent but nice to see the cupboards stocked again!

GO LEAFS GO!

You forgot Kapanen and Levo. While i do agree that they have a good young nucleus in the system, i may be wrong, but i believe they'll be a playoffs team this season.

I knew I was forgetting someone, the two talented Russian kids too. GLG!

They beat Ottawa last night in 3-on-3 overtime on a goal by Lupul. No, he didn't get injured while celebrating the goal. But the overtime period (it took less than a minute to score) was interesting to watch and there was so much space on the ice. I doubt there'll be many games this season decided by the boring shootout. Good!!!!

The Leafs are playing the habs tonight. I may watch the game, even though the Jays are playing the Yankees. I don't pay that much attention to pre-season hockey, though. Go Leafs Go!!

Travis Zajac soon to be traded to Leafs?

One very strong rumor coming out of East Rutherford is that Leafs GM Lou Lamoriello is attemping to obtain Travis Zajac from the Devils. The most prominent name being mentionned in a possible trade is Nazem Kadri. JVR is another name being mentionned as possible trade bait, but not necessarily in the Zajac trade.

By the way, i was in Detroit just a few days ago and attended the Wings/Blackhawks game. Mr. Hockey Gordie Howe was also,at the game, his first since his stroke last year, i believe. I have to admit that downtown Detroit ain't as bad as i thought it was & had i been in the area longer, i would have attended one of the Tigers/Twins games this weekend. They have a beauriful ballpark! Much better than that old rundown Fenway Park!

Leafs have signed former Leaf forward Brad Boyes to a 1-year contract. No-risk signing for a veteran who can still put the puck in the net. He'll only be paid $700 000.

I heard that Zajac to the Leafs rumor about 4 days ago and fully trust Lou and company so if it is a deal for Travis, there has to be more pieces coming and going and as bad as that contract is for Zajac, i would think it would involve a top prospect and a #1 pick or any combination of the likes coming back to the Leafs. Why else would they want him, he is 30 with 6 more years to go on a contract that pays him around 6 mil per and his production has fallen off drastically the last few years, it just does not make sense unless they get top prospects/picks and then buy him out in a couple years if they are still allowed to do so.

OR it could involve getting rid of Lupul and Bozak. Zajac is a great leader and if Lou approves of him then there is no second guessing a trade for him i suppose.

GLG!

Your right Doc it's just the preseason, but I wanted to see the prospects play. Guys we hear about but rarely see. The ones both teams are raving about. Future pros.

... and the fact that the 'buds didn't have to give up anything to get him helps take the sting out of the disastrous Owen Nolan trade.

The Leafs played a great game last night for a team that was supposed to be horrible the next 2 seasons before progression started. If this is how they will be playing all season then it will be easy to root for a team like this. Hard working, determined, fast and a bunch of guys with feel good stories trying to continue their careers when the furture did not look to bright before they came to TO. Then again it was only one game so we shall see. And it was only against Montreal who without Price is a bubble playoff team at best.

Your right iggy it was a great game. Price is the mvp on the habs, but Max and P.K. Also played well. As for the Leafs I liked what I saw, they worked hard. The guys seem to buy in to what the coach is saying. They will be a better team this year then last year.

Leafs played a very good game against the Senators lasr night. They came back from a 3-0 deficit and later tied it 4-4 late in the game. They ran into a hot goalie once again. They lost in the crappy shootout.

The Leafs have played quite well in 2 of their 3 games.
