please Oh wise one, forgive me, i forgot the "ive" , for all intensive purposes, which you knew, lol :)
You never cease to amaze me Iggy! LOL. Please explain to me what "intense purposes" are.

On a real baseball note, I know it's still very early but I'm not comfortable at all with the new approach by the Sox with the emphasis on pitching and defense since both have f'n sucked since the start of this debacle 2010. Anyway, as of now, it's not looking good.

Actually having known joet for awhile now, he is a very educated baseball fan, as am myself if i do say so, and i do. we just like to use humor or as sox fans call it (ftardisms) of course when a sox fan uses humor it is just humor, no way it is ftardisms, and see, thats the double standard that lights the fuel of our fire! :) it seems it is always that way with sox fans eh? yup, some things will NEVER change. hihi

To keep this about baseball , i found a great article from a couple days ago that might be of interest...

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...ented_with_27th_world_series_title_rings.html

Hello Iggy & Joe.t...well of course you guys are the epitome of serious BB talk...who could ever doubt that...
I must say however that this new, serious side is refreshing to see.

And Igs, I believe I summed up Morosi's article in simple terms in post 184 of this thread and was the first to do it...but thanks for the read Joe.t...I am sure you will provide more of the same when the Yankees hit a slow patch in their season...

Hello SK...Calm down buddy, lest we forget last year when the Sox took the first 8 from the Yankees who had a terrible start...it is us who were hearing crickets then...plenty of baseball left...but Tito better stick his foot in someones ass soon...

Have fun,

Jman

I truly and sincerely belive that Girardi is the best manager in baseball. Not just strategically, but for what he has to deal with. Juggling all the talent, dealing with the media, and also his organizational skills. He also seems to have very good personal/people skills and handles postgame press coneferences even better than Joe Torre used to. Torre would ocassionally berate or lecture when he got a dumb question, but Girardi does not do this. He answers questions very thoughtfully and without any of the fake, ass kissing politeness you see from other managers. Francona is also pretty good at this, but I don't think he is quite as thoughtful as Girardi is. Joe is a deep thinker and I like deep thinkers.

That being said, I am going to nitpick with him on one thing. He left Phil Hughes in too long in Hughes' 1st start. Hughes had thrown 100 pitches through 5, he clearly should have been taken out. Giardi left him in and Hughes' gas tank was clearly down to fumes and he could not throw strikes in the 6th. Other than that, and not DHing Posada against lefties occasionally, he has been right on target with his moves. He seems to have a better feel for his pitchers than most managers do.

And on the rare occasions when you witness a Yankees player fuck up like Marcus Thames did when he went into a home run trot on a double off the wall, he deals with it professionally and appropriately. He does not embarrass anyone and deals with these issues behind closed doors. Torre at the end of his tenure allowed some frictions (e.g. with A-Rod) to get out into the media.

Beav

I think Girardi is one of the TOP managers in all of baseball, maybe not the best yet, but i think he can/will be , but the guy in St Louis and LA (both LA's) are pretty darn good, as are a couple others

Hello all,

Actually having known joet for awhile now, he is a very educated baseball fan, as am myself if i do say so, and i do.

That would explain all the "unhittable"..."on fire"..."Cy Wang" quips which are the sum of his typical posts. If he is as you say, it would be interesting to see him use it...just once.

I'm not denying the truth of this as far as it goes, but compared to teams with real issues Girardi's problems are more like a guy who has 100 suits in his closet, or a warehouse with dozens of cars and can't decide what to wear or which to drive. All his problems basically are about abundance, and the rest like the media are what is natural to every team. In my view, managers are great who have to deal with and manage to solve real problems such as not having the players or choices available. Where are those problems with the Yankees compared to all others teams, especially when the Yankees have typically gone around with their mega $$$$$$$ to solve them, as they did before last year. Francona has all the same issues to deal with and far more ...unfortunately.

Regarding other pressures, if you think the New York media is worse to deal with than Boston because of size then I am amazed you don't know the intensity ("intense and purposes" ;) ) of baseball pressure in Boston.

Cheers,

Merlot

Colorado Rockies team president found dead in hotel room

Colorado Rockies president Keli McGregor was found dead in a hotel room in Salt Lake City on Tuesday morning, according to police.

Salt Lake City Police Det. Rick Wall said McGregor, 48, died of natural causes. He said the official cause of death will be investigated by the Salt Lake City medical examiner's office, according to The Denver Post.

The Rockies were notified of McGregor's death by police and were planning a statement, but had no immediate comment, according to the report.

McGregor, the team's president since 2001, had been with the Rockies' front office since 1993, when he started as senior director of operations. He was promoted to senior vice president in 1996 and executive vice president in 1998.

Wall said police were called to McGregor's hotel when a pair of team associates, traveling with him on team business, could not reach McGregor in his room and asked the hotel to check on him, according to the report.

Police were called at about 11 a.m. ET; emergency workers arrived on the scene and were unable to revive him.

McGregor, a tight end at Colorado State, was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 1985 and played for the Broncos, Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks, according to the report.

Intensive purposes is now slang for Intents and purposes? You are way too funny my friend. Good one, but who really clued you in? I know, Beav sent you a PM so as to not embarrass you publicly. Of course you're going to say "I knew it all along" but we all know the real truth.

Thanks Doc for some other Baseball news that did not involve someone drooling over a Yankees picture...I had just read that news and was ready to post it here.

Gimme a break you guys - Girardi, bla, bla, bla... reading ths drool fest 12 games into the season is comical...lol.

Beav - I see the hits just keep coming in Boston...

Merlot - well put, but it must be sour grapes 'cause you are trying to put up an umbrella on the pinstripe drool parade...lol.

Have fun,

Jman

Gammons Reporting Red Sox May Release Ortiz

I just heard Peter Gammons interviewed by Francesa live on WFAN coming home from work, Gammons in Fenway tonight for the Rangers-Red Sox game. Here is what Peter reported to Francesa:

- Cameron out for 60 days, Ellsbury at least a few weeks and possibly a month, Sox may acquire an outfielder/big bat

- Ortiz is "not seeing what other people are seeing and is in a state of denial."

- Red Sox may release Ortiz and use Martinez at DH because Red Sox are very unhappy that the Red Sox catchers have thrown out 1-24 runners, unhappy with Ortiz, 3 of next 4 games are vs. lefties and Ortiz is not playing and not happy about it

- A-Gon and Fielder are not trade options at 1st base

- Red Sox management "much more concerned than what they are indicating"

- Drew is "missing pitches", he says that he is not swinging at strikes, Gammons thinks when you are 34 and missing pitches it may be that he is missing strikes and missing hittable pitches

- I was surprised to hear Gammons say that "Yankees' older players are not looking old, while the Red Sox old players are looking old, which is a testament to the character and ethic of the Yankees players."

- Yankees' signing of Mark Teixeira "changed the whole landscape" of the competition between the teams. Gammons said that the Red Sox failed to sign Teixeira because Teix's meeting with Red Sox management reps did not go well, not because the Yankees offered more money. MONEY WAS NOT THE ISSUE AND THEO HAD THE MONEY, per Gammons.

I was totally shocked by the alarmist tone of the interview. I felt Gammons would put things in a more positive light but he didn't.

The above are true and accurate summary statements of what I heard Gammons say.

Well, you can listen to the interview here:

http://www.wfan.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=4583179

Beav, you missed a few key "ifs", "I believes" and woulda, shoulda, coulda's...to read your text here you state it as fact. I respect Peter Gammons more than anyone, but it is all supposition...not to mention Francesa was leading the conversation...

Just another view...
