Oops! Typo. My bad. :D

(Big Poopi?? LOL!!!! Now, THAT'S funny! LOL!!! Who came up with that one?)

Where I belong.
True, but anyone could see light at the end of the tunnel in regards to the Stankees last year. To be brutally honest, i don't see that light this season in regards to the Sux, who should consider getting rid of Tito & start rebuilding for the future. The rebuilding should all start by getting rid of the oldies like Papi, Lowell & Varitek, who couldn't throw out my dead grandmother if she'd try stealing 2nd base. Then you get rid of Dice-K shorten your starting rotation in order to give your team a chance. However, it would only be a short-term solution, since there's so much going wrong with that awful team right now. How the hell could they be swept by the Orioles?? Even K.C. couldn't be swept by the O's!!!
I don't think that's true, Doc. The Yankees got banner years, well ahead of career norms, from guys in their late 30s. Jeter, Posada, Pettitte, Matsui, Damon, and Rivera all performed well better than expected. Once they got A-Rod back, they did not have an injury costing them more than a game or two the rest of the way. Damon and Matsui are gone, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Jeter, Posada, and Pettitte fade badly.

As for the Sox, the biggest problems are/have been Beckett, Lester and Lackey. The Sox are 4th in the league in BA, 2nd in HR, 5th in runs scored. The pitching staff, which was considered the best in the league, is 12th in the league in ERA. If those guys can't pitch like aces, then the Sox are doomed. They're also getting performance below norm from everybody in the lineup except Scutaro.

As for the others: Papi - I'm not quite ready to pull the plug. He did lead the league in HRs from June 1 last year. I wouldn't give him as long as last year, but certainly a couple more weeks.

Lowell: Mike doesn't really fit on this club. Given that both he and Ortiz are DHs and that Martinez should DH when Varitek catches, he'd best be sent elsewhere. Lowell isn't the only mismatch; I really don't see where Wakefield fits on this team.

Varitek: I predicted a big season for 'Tek, based on his only catching a couple of days a week and getting most of his at bats from the right side. He's still got some skills as long as they don't wear him down.

Dice-K - Dice-K pitched brilliantly last September. They probably left him in too long last Saturday.

By the way, Sox catchers have thrown out 6 of the last 7 runners attempting to steal.

Close games and timely hitting by the O's. Didn't the Jays get swept just last week? I'm pretty sure they did and that was by the Sox, right? Any team can go through a bad spell, but it'll even out in the end and I'm sure the Jays will be looking up at the Sox in the standings by seasons end. Care to wager on it?

Hello everyone,

This is supposed to be a serious and respectful thread. If I continue to see trash talk and insults in this thread it will be closed and there will be no more baseball threads permitted on MERB this season. If anyone wishes to start a trash talk thread, please go ahead and do so but I will not tolerate this thread degrading into a free for all.

Hello all,

Regardless of the right and wrong of tasering the guy, he wanted a "once in a lifetime experience" and that's what he got. Tagged with "fame" at last. Be careful what you wish for.

RED SUX SUCK!!!!!

(Yes, it's hard to believe, but they suck even more than the Blue Jays!! Unbelievable!!! LOL!!!!)

Hmmm, then seeing the Jays swept by the Red Sox in three close ones...IN TORONTO...has got to be pretty annoying.

Cheers,

Merlot

Hello Doc,

Well I am either detecting a serious degree of sarcasm ;) directed to indicate you are acting like other certain members at certain times, in other certain threads...or...you are extremely frustrated because indeed the Red Sox did sweep the Blue Jays in Toronto AND you are still watching the Habs play while the Leafs went home in 29th place.

Either way, I hope you feel better.

Have fun,

Jman

Yes he did! He can tell all of his classmates at Penn State next year what it was like to be tased by a special duty cop working as security at the Phillies game.

Note that the taser had an effective range of about 20 feet:

LOL..."fleeing suspects"!? Where exactly was he going to flee to...?
Just seems a little extreme to me...or maybe lazy...hmmm.

Appropriately it happened in Philadelphia, some of the most obnoxious fans I have ever met ...

Honestly...I think they should have tackled him........but I am not totally troubled by the use of a taser as a deterrent in this situation. If he had been a true lunatic and injured or stabbed one of the players (think Monica Seles incident) the Philly police would have been ridiculed for the rest of time.

Why ty Kman! and for the record i have plenty more names and quotes but some red sox fans , well, most, are to weak skinned to handle it but do not seem to have a problem doing the same thing, and funny, but somehow they dont seem to think they post any ftard comments, haha! double standards rule the day in here, so funny, yet typical....

On to real baseball news, AJ Burnett pitched a gem and is in line for the win as we speak, Cervelli had 3 more hits, (be carefull what you wish for Rumples, Posada may be showing some age but Cervelli is a capable replacement) MVP of the Yanks so far this season, Robbie "dont ya know" Cano had another 2 hits. GO YANKEES!

LOL, who do you think? :D

Doc, save your money, the Jays dont have a chance until they get a new ball park and get out of the AL East. ring a bell?

ps, and IF they dont get a new ballpark, say goodbye just like the expos, which SUCKS! ... i still imagine a beautifull downtown Montreal Park, but it never saw the light of day, and sadly, never will..... :(

Cervelli was awesome tonight, he plays with great enthusiasm, is great behind the plate, made a great catch falling into the dugout, and was 3-3 including a sacrifice bunt which he hustled into a hit. He is hitting .387.

7 dominant innings by Burnett, with Joba finishing up with his second save in as many nights.

Beav, that he was, and dont forget Pena had a sac fly to score gardner to add the 4th run to put the game away. Listen to those names leading the Yanks, the youth and future of the Yanks is alive and well, not once did we mention Tex, Jeter, Arod and the Yanks still pull out the win.... scary for the rest of the AL east.

on another note, Big PAPI had a decent night, going 0-4, but only 2 strikeouts and only 7 men LOB. i think the plug is getting closer to being pulled sox fans, and it would probably be the best thing for your team. dont look at it as the end of an era, but a new beginning.

You're much more effective with this sympathetic sanctimony stuff than all the hyperbolic typical nonsense.

Yikes! Now that's dishing out some major OUCH there Jman. I didn't know you were such a blood hungry attack dog when you want to be.

Funny how it still comes down to sticking it to the other guy for those who pleaded for a real discussion thread.

In the Sox news, just look at Lester tonight. He hangs in there and holds the Angels to 1 run for 8 innings with no real run support in all that time; heroic given the Red Sox often anemic offense and other issues this year, and still wins 5-1. Way to go boy.

No doubt this patchwork team has needed to create some chemistry within. There are a number of holes that will remain, but if the pitching gets steadier and the individual players start to feel more comfortable in their roles, the team will get more competitive. Still, except for TORONTO they've got a very tough run in the next two weeks. And, I have very little faith left in Dice-K...never mind Ortiz.

Great job,

Merlot

I have not saw the last 2 games in full, are they resting Mo for the sox series or does he have a hangnail or something :)

Being rested with some soreness in his rib cage/flank. I saw him interviewed by Kim Jones on YES Monday night and he had a bullpen and said he was ready to go Tuesday but they wanted to make sure he is fully rested. He will probably be given today off as well and can be expected back Friday.
