Well, after a horrendous start to the season and dealing with a multitude of key injuries, namely Beckett, Ellsbury, Dice-K, etc, the Sox find themselves now trailing the badly slumping NY Yankees and TB Rays by 1 measly game! Some wise gentleman once told me "that's why they play 162!" ;-)

Or in the words of Victor Martinez after todays walk off win against the Dodgers..."we're in a 162 game marathon"...

Some wisdom in those words for the quick shooters out there.

And oh yeah...

ask rumples, he would know, "click" .. Hughes is now the front runner to start the all star game with his 10-1 record, and the fact Joe Girardi is the AL Manager, sorry clay, sorry lester... how about CC today? if he is back to his cy young form then watch out boys and girls, the Yanks need to get on a streak like they do a few times a year and rip off like 10 wins in a row and put a lil distance from the leaders to the others, mainly the sox and Rays, but it is also nice seeing the Blue Jays hang around, lets hope they put some pressure all season on the sox and Rays.

and sorry it took me awhile to answer you bro, its tough when living part time in Montreal. "Dont ya Know" (Robbie Cano) :)

GO YANKEES!
Tell me something Igna, has there ever been a team that had a Triple Crown(Cano), a Cy Young(Pettitte), a MVP(Cano) and most importantly a World Series winner(Yankees) all in the same year?.

PS- Another solid outing by Hughes today, looks like the Cy will come down to a tight race between Hughes and Pettitte.

Hello all,

Well, I suppose that all depends on what you want to pay for a sky high .223 BA... definitely a Silver Slumper candidate for 1B...:D:D:D

I've got two quarters, a nickel, three rusty pennies, a washed out movie ticket, and some old Tic Tacs expiration date unknown. Yeah, I know. Generosity has always been my burden.

BOSTON (AP)

Clay Buchholz and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout to help the Boston Red Sox beat the Dodgers 2-0 on Sunday night and send Manny Ramirez back to Los Angeles without a win.

Buchholz (10-4) allowed three hits, three walks and two hit batsmen while striking out four to complete the three-game sweep and win for the seventh time in his past eight starts.

Daniel Bard got four outs and Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth for his 16th save and Boston's sixth shutout. The Red Sox earned their season-high sixth straight victory to improve to 8-1 on the interleague homestand and remain just one game behind the New York Yankees in the AL East.

Another very nice pitching performance by Buchholz and company despite a little sloppiness that had no lasting effect. Despite missing a number of key players like J Drew, J Hermida, D Matsuzaka, J Ellsbury, J Beckett of various severity the Sox keep rolling on. If the missing players return and play to expectations the Sox are going to be tough for anyone to beat.

Cheers,

Merlot

How sweep it is! Clay "Cy" Buchholz looked great, despite that sloppy first...personally from the stands at Fenway it looked to me like he was being squeezed a little by the home plate umpire...irregardless a 3 hit shut out none the less. Its gonna be tough to pick between him and Lester for the Cy Young.

Screw off Manny...LOL...hope he wasn't expecting open arms...leave town with class and maybe you will be treated the same.

Anyway...plenty of baseball left boys...

Have fun,

Jman

PS Whats this...a log jam at the top of the AL East...why OMG!!!

I attended yesterdays game and thoroughly enjoyed the reception that the Fenway faithful gave Manny! Too bad Torre didn't have the balls to put him out in the field instead of just DH'ing him then entire weekend! The crowd would have been even more ruthless and deservedly so!

Dunno, J-Man, while Lester's certainly trending upward, right now I'd say it's between Buchholz and Price for the Cy. The MVP, at the moment, also seems bunched at the top. Is it Cabrera? Morneau? Youkilis.

One award, if they were giving it today, would be a no-brainer. Tito is certainly heading toward another Manager of the Year award. What he's done with his team of walking wounded is pretty amazing. 39-19 since April 20.

I say Aaaaammmmeeennn brotha K!!! LOL!

You know I had a guy sitting near me say "You can't boo Manny. Without him there is no WS title in '04." I said to the guy...I'll give him his due for what he contributed to the team...BUT...then he laid down - gave up on his team. With all the BS injuries and the games he played so he'd get traded...comon'...

If the guy had displayed a little class at the end it may be a different story...but screw off Manny!

Have fun,

(look out joet, there trying to steal your methods) but hey, it worked, so give em this one!

Now what's your excuse for AJ Burnett? Haha. So far tonight, 3.0 innings, 8 HITS, 6 Earned RUNS, 3 DINGERS!!!! I'd take Wake as a 5th starter over this monstrosity as your #3 anyday!! Then there's these beautiful numbers from his three previous starts.

3.1 innings, 6 ER
6.0 innings, 6 ER
6.2 innings, 4 ER

I think that deserves a hearty iggy bbbbwwwwaaahhhhh!!!!!!!!

Not only does Burnett suck, but now they're skipping Hughes in the rotation in an effort to limit his innings to 175. He'll probably be skipped 2-3 more times between now and the end of the season.

Today marks the first time all season where the Red Sox, best team in baseball since April 20th, are in position to move into first place.

I have to agree with the Boston guys on this one. Burnett has always been overrated & a chronic underachieving head case throughout his career. I suffered while i watched him struggle with the Jays for 3 seasons. Most people in Toronto were overjoyed to see his big underachieving contract heading off to the hated Yankees. The only time where he's pitched somewhat decently was when he had his buddy Brad Arnsberg as his pitching coach.

LOL...that was easy. well lgna...I did check the stats and little tex was at .223 for the season...last time I checked seasonal stats were not on the last 12 games. Yes, he has hit the long ball in 12 games...whoopie as the yankees continue to slide.

Heres a trivia question for math giants who are the kings of lower case (this lowercase thing feels so middle school ... but I had to do it to see what the thrill was...)...LOL...what does tex have to bat for the rest of the season to get anywhere near his lifetime average?

Hint - .302 isn't gonna get him there.

Have Fun,

Jman

I just checked Teixeria's stats, Jman, and I'm afraid you have it wrong. He's not hitting .223; he's hitting .225. When your average is that low, you really don't want to cheat him out of those 2 points.

He is, however, hitting .236 for the month of June. He was actually better in May.

AJ Burnett quoted post game (after being blasted for 5 runs in the first and ultimately losing the game 10-4)..."Well you know how good I am..."

LOL. There are some that say Burnett is streaky. He has great stuff and will find it as fast as he lost it... I say, he just consistantly sucks. 4 good starts followed by 7 bad starts...he just consistently sucks. And along with consistently sucking, apparently he is also very humble...:rolleyes:hmmm...

...what a great acquisition by Homer Cashman...Doh!
cashman.jpg

Meanwhile don't look now...but the slumping Yankees find the surging Red Sox - (who BTW are doing this without the entire starting OF and 2 front line starters on the DL, being led by manager of the year front runner Tito Francona) - just inches from overtaking them for first place in the division. Isn't it great to see the depth of talent that a great baseball mind like Theo can put behind ML team by actually building a farm system full of talent?! BTW, I might mention that many Merb pundi.ts said was virtually impossible for the Sox to be anywhere close to where they are now some 20 games in to a 162 game season when they were 8 games out...I believe the quote was..."it will be over by the All Star break..."

Like Victor said - "We're in a 162 game marathon..." I say...

Bring it!
Yankee-Red-Sox-Rivalvy.jpg

Let see what the genius Girardi can do when he loses 3 or 4 key players. With the depth of young talent in the Yankee farm system...he should have an easy ride...errrr...uh oh...

Have fun,

Jman

PS Thanks Rumples...I humbly stand corrected... .225 it is...LOL

Pretty poor. Looking at the last 4 starts he's averaging 5 innings, 8.25 hits, 5.75 runs, 5.75 ER, giving up .269 BA, and a 10.35 ERA. YIKES! Where he was decent in May he's terrible in June. If he's been known to have some sort of physical strain or injury during this time the Yankees can take solace that there's a reason for his sorry performances. If not, they've got a chronically volcanic pitcher who can blow up any time, and has been doing so for about three weeks straight. Many good pitchers blow up once or twice during a season, even against poor teams like the now 28-43 Diamondbacks. But the consistency in bad outings is what's troubling...for the Yankees.

maybe AJ is then..

Pray that he's injured. The alternative isn't pretty, and "be afraid. Be very afraid".
afraid-male-afraid-frightened-smiley-emoticon-000293-large.gif

Oh God, Burnett pitching...again.

Cheers,

Merlot
