Lester looked like shit today, again. Notoriously slow starting I don't expect that to continue so enjoy it while you can Joe.t, you know what's coming.

you might hate me for this but... personally i think lester is one of the most overrated pitchers in the game today...

Doesn't look too good for Boston, of all pitchers to lose to(Pavano).

Sure looks like Carl (Pavano) did allot of healing on the $40M he collected while on vacation in NY...155 left boys...

Have fun,

Why would I hate you, everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I'm interested in knowing what makes you think he's overrate?

haha not that hes a bad pitcher or anything, but after one good year, boston media started making statements that hes gonna be the next cy young award winner, he gets ridiculous statistics in sports games and has pretty ridiculous scouting reports from sport sites. to me hes a good pitcher but not a franchise pitcher like many people now think he is.

Some people would view confidence coupled with a lofty goal as a good thing...Lester as a person always seemed very grounded particularly after his bout in beating cancer.

Media...LOL! Who ever pays attention to the media?

Which one good year are you talking about? The one where he had a 3.21 ERA (4th in the league) or the one where he had a 3.41 ERA (5th in the league)? And he's still only 26.

Jeremy Hermida delivers again with a bases clearing double...
Hermida could be an interesting pickup. The Florida Marlins, who have always drafted well, claimed Hermida out of high school in the 1st round (11th overall) out of high school in 2002. In 2003, he performed quite well (.780) at low A and was probably among the youngest players in the league. He spent 2004 at high A, again very young for the league (20) and again had a good year (.818). In 2005, Hermida had a huge year at AA (.985) and was declared the fourth best prospect in baseball by Baseball America.

He skipped AAA and entered the major leagues in 2006 at the tender age of 22. In a part time role, he got his feet wet (.700.) In 2007, he seemed to be an upcoming star with a .870 ops at 23. His 18 hrs and .296 ba in only 429 at bats were certainly a good sign.

It's been all downhill from there. IN 2008 and 2009, he hit about .250 with 15 home runs each year. While still a competent, though certainly not championship level player, the Marlins were not in a position to pay him $3.5 million and dumped him to the Red Sox for nothing in return.

Hermida is only 26 so stardom is still not out of the possibility if he can show the promise he showed in 2005-2006. A change of scenery might be all he's needed. He'll also need at bats. The leash on Big Papi will not be as long as it was last year with Hermida on the bench.

Hello rumples,

I said it after the pick up, Jeremy could be a sleeper. Between JD being in his chamber and the possibility of continued wows for Ortiz I think he will get his AB's.
Time will tell.

Have fun,

Jman

Hello all,

An associate of mine was talking about how tough the pitching for the Yankees would be this year with the addition of Javier Vazquez, who had been great in the NL. Yeah, I said. But let's see what happens when he gets back to the AL. Remember he's been here before, and not so auspiciously.

Like old times: Javier Vazquez booed at Yankee Stadium

http://content.usatoday.com/communi...imes-javier-vazquez-booed-at-yankee-stadium/1

Surely, the stakes weren't as high Wednesday afternoon for Javier Vazquez and the Yankees compared to the last time he climbed the hill in the Bronx, clad in pinstripes.

It was only the Yankees' second home game of the season, and Vazquez's second start of the season, rather than an emergency relief outing in Game 7 of the 2004 AL Championship Series.

That night, Boston's Johnny Damon hit the third pitch Vazquez threw for a grand slam, cementing what may be the worst collapse in a postseason series, in any sport.

Vazquez was traded that off-season, flourished, for the most part, in his time in the National League and returned a Yankee after a trade from Atlanta this winter.

But much hasn't changed his second time around with the Bombers. After a 5-3 loss to the Angels today, Vazquez is 0-2 and has failed to finish the sixth inning in either of his first two starts this season, allowing 12 runs and 14 hits in 11 innings.

What's more, the Bronx boo birds are already letting him have it.

He was booed at various times by the crowd of 42,372, as the Yankee Stadium faithful quickly put the good vibes of Opening Day behind them. But perhaps they are fearing the worst based on Vazquez's track record.

His ERA in his American League seasons: 4.91, 4.84, 3.74, 4.67. His ERA last year, in the NL: 2.87.

Vazquez has always been durable; whether he can deliver consistent, quality outings as a Yankee remains to be seen.

By Gabe Lacques

It's early. But it looks like Vazquez is back...in every way as before so far.

An update will be provided when that grand slam ball finally falls from orbit. Thanks again Javier.

Cheers y'all,

Merlot

Yankees have 2 homers off Kazmir so far, Cano and Jeter. Swisher barely missed another. Yankees' lineup against lefties looks better than I can ever remember. I feel sorry for Kazmir that he has to navigate through all of that lumber. He was nibbling with Teixera and ARod and they ended up walking. If he keeps nibbling like this his pitch count is going to be 150 after 6. It's always high for him against the Yankees because he nibbles especially after getting taken deep. I never liked his mental makeup and still don't. The only pitcher I saw who nibbled this much and got away with it was David Cone, but it caught up with him at the end of his career and he was finished as a good pitcher by age 36.

Meanwhile David Ortiz was benched today because he has stunk out the joint so far this year

Geez Louise how he went from a average player to a home run masher and back down to a DFA scrub in such a short period is very puzzling.

I told Special K before the season that the Red Sox have a problem if Ortiz and Drew do not hit and produce. Their lineup is not quite as good as it was in the past when they had Ramirez and a productive Papi. Now they have neither. Their pitching and defense will need to carry them and it is going to be tough because the Rays have a much better lineup and so do the Yankees. The Red Sox may have the edge in pitching depth, but will that offset a power outage at a few spots in their lineup?

No because you need both, pitching and hitting, the Sox have pitching but their lack of hitting will be their downfall this year.
