Hey Joe T,

Granderson has tripled in consecutive at bats, and Cano already has 2 homers on Jackie Robinson Night (the man he was named after!)

Anyone know what the record is for consecutive triples? Because I never saw a guy on the Yankees who can triple like Granderson since Mickey Rivers. He is a whippet out of the batter's box and runs like hell! This is a guy who has hit 23 triples in a season and don't be surprised if he hits 25 this year.

Hello Merlot,

Can't be the SAME Vasquez I was thinking of....
Javier Vasquez - the 4th Yankees Ace???
BTW 2 and 3 are laughable too...
Anyway looks like Javier is about the same as his last trip to NY?!
Man, his mama told him there would be days he'd pray to be back in the NL pitching to the girls...
Rolleyes.png

And uh oh boys...9 games in looks like the season is over AGAIN. May as well hand the WS rings out again. LOL!!!
Looks like the Yankees have won it all again...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Have fun,

Jman

what are you insinuating joe? maybe he has not been drinking as much orange juice in the last 2 years as before, it does a body good you know.. oh wait, thats milk, oh well, my bad, carry on :)

Meanwhile David Ortiz was benched today because he has stunk out the joint so far this year

Geez Louise how he went from a average player to a home run masher and back down to a DFA scrub in such a short period is very puzzling.

Where I belong.
I told Special K before the season that the Red Sox have a problem if Ortiz and Drew do not hit and produce. Their lineup is not quite as good as it was in the past when they had Ramirez and a productive Papi. Now they have neither. Their pitching and defense will need to carry them and it is going to be tough because the Rays have a much better lineup and so do the Yankees. The Red Sox may have the edge in pitching depth, but will that offset a power outage at a few spots in their lineup?
Did you know that the Red Sox hit 56 more home runs last year than the did in 2007, when, with Manny and Papi, they won the series? The Sox are stronger at 3 spots in the lineup this year, weaker at one. They've improved massively behind the plate (and Varitek is a top notch back up catcher), they've upgraded significantly at shortstop. And Beltre is a significant upgrade over the Lowell/Kotsay/Kotchman spot in the lineup. Their offense is just fine.

Drew has been on of the top 10 hitters in the AL the last two years with a .910 and .927 ops. He's as likely to continue slumping as Pedroia is likely to wind up with 75 home runs.

The Sox right now are one game under .500 despite the fact that they've gotten three decent starts out of their starting pitchers in 9 games. Their biggest problem right now is what to do with 6 starting pitchers. Dice-K in his two rehab starts has allowed 5 hits and a walk in 11 innings. No runs.

Guess which starting Yankee player David Ortiz has more than double the batting average of at .176? Yep, Megabucks Mark Texeira, now batting a measly pathetic .083!! Bench his sorry ass.

The very knowledgable baseball analyst Ken Rosenthal discusses Big Papi's problems, he states that the Red Sox have "question marks" when it comes to hitting despite the claims of that delusional fool(rumpleforskin).

Joe.t,

I have been watching the Yankees games and the Yankees are driving up the pitch counts of good opposing pitchers to ridiculous numbers. Scott Feldman as I write this has 60 pitches and he is not yet out of the 2nd inning with bases loaded and 2 runs in. This is sick! I think the Yankees are going to cause opposing pitchers to suffer arm injuries before the season is over. The other night Scott Kazmir was on a pace to throw about 180 pitches in 5 innings, and it was mercy that he got raked and sent to the showers having given up 6 runs in 4 innings. These pitch counts are abusive, pure and simple.

7-0 yanks in the 5th, is it just me or does this years Yankees team look scary good, and better than last years team? Girardi has these guys playing as well for him like Torre used to and things look business as usual from the way last year ended. i know its only april but it took the yanks half the season to get going last year. good stuff going on in Da Boogie Down Bronx indeed!

Igna, it's real early and we can't send them the championship just yet, but they do look scary good, except for Vazquez. Teixera, though hitting .083, is at least drawing walks and driving up pitch counts, as well as playing the usual great defense that he plays, so he is contributing.

I would like to see Giradi try to get more at bats for Cervelli at catcher. Cervelli, in my opinion, should play more and they should DH Posada against lefties. Cervelli has consistent quality at bats whenever he plays, and I have not seen a young player come up to the Yankees who has played with such energy and enthusiasm, in a long time. He may not be the second coming of Mike Piazza but he is a much better hitter than anyone thought and he appears to have power potential based on his body and his swing. An example of his maturity was last night when he got jammed with a good pitch and muscled the ball into left field for a key RBI single. It's kind of tough because Johnson was signed as a full time DH, and he is also helping with driving up pitch counts. If Johnson gets hurt, the Yankees should slide Posada to DH and play Cervelli every day. I really believe that if given the chance, Cervelli will prove himself to be an everyday catcher. He is better than any other young catcher the Yankees have brought up since Posada first came up.

Crickets, jman you there?, you still watching baseball these days:D.

Hello Joe.t,

Of course I am still watching...as a matter of fact most recently live. Had to consult with Tito on what do do about the whole Ortiz thing. Headed to Yankee stadium tonight to chat with Girardi about Tex. LOL.

Plenty of season left my good man. Lest you forget as a faithful Yankee man...its not about how you are playing in April or May...its about how you are playing down the stretch...that why they play 162. What will be interesting to see is how well the old men are playing in NY when it gets hot and the season starts wearing on them...

JoeT,

I think the Red Sox fans got the memo that losing their first two series at home to the Yankees and Rays, their chief rivals for AL East divisional supremacy, is not a good thing. They will tell you that despite the 1-4 record at home vs. the Yankees and Rays, they believe they have better pitching and defense than the Yanks and Rays. Time will tell if belief matches up with reality.

Igna,

Yet another good starting pitcher is driven out of the game with an extremely high pitch count before completing 4 innings against the Yankees. This time it's Harden - 94 pitches in 3.2 innings. The Rangers starting pitchers, which led the AL in ERA coming into the series, were brutalized in this series.

Hello all,

Recalling 1926 may not be the best idea. The pat-o-the-back group seems to have missed the fact that the Yankees and "Murderer's Row" were BEATEN in the World Series that year.

Yankee fans should remember how poorly they have started nearly every year, and still reached the playoffs. They should also remember that despite full team potential for many years, only last year was a success in the last 9. And, even great starts mean nothing as 1926 proved.

I've got a photo of myself just like this...BOYS!

Cheers,

Merlot

PS

Congrats. Teixeira is now a real 3-digit man at .100.
