Canes stomp all over Habs; Habs trounced 6-2 & now only 2 points from 8th spot

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jeff Skinner has made scoring look easy at times during his first season with Carolina. For a change, so did another of the Hurricanes' rookies.

Skinner had two goals and an assist, defenseman Jamie McBain had his first career two-goal game and Carolina beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-2 on Wednesday night to continue its push for a playoff spot.

"Looking back at the beginning of the season, I don't think I would have predicted [myself] to be here," said Skinner, who leads all rookies with 58 points and has 29 goals. "I look back and don't predict a lot of things that have happened, so you just sort of just try to roll with it, and hopefully we can keep it going."

Cory Stillman had a goal and an assist and Joni Pitkanen also scored for the ninth-place Hurricanes, three points behind Buffalo and the New York Rangers in the race for one of the eight Eastern Conference playoff spots. Carolina has won six of its last eight.

"We're playing really well. We're playing with some confidence, and that's what you need to do, especially at this time of the year," said Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward, who made 38 saves. "You can't play with fear of the what-ifs. You've got to take care of your business and enjoy the challenge that we have in front of us."

Mike Cammalleri and rookie P.K. Subban scored power-play goals for Montreal, which held a 40-35 shots advantage yet lost for the fifth time in seven games.

"We knew they were going to be desperate. They're fighting for the playoffs," Canadiens defenseman Roman Hamrlik said. "We just were not ready mentally. ... I don't think we competed, and they outworked us tonight."

Carey Price stopped 22 shots but allowed four goals in two periods for the Canadiens. Alex Auld replaced him to start the third and finished with seven saves.

"I can't blame the goalie," Montreal coach Jacques Martin said. "I think it was more tonight where our defense, we made some mistakes that cost us."

And with the Sabres' victory tonight over Tampa Bay, the Leafs are out once again.

True. However, i'm still extremely proud at the way the Leafs played during the 2nd half of the season, being among the league's best 5 teams. They could have made some serious noise had they made the playoffs. Next on their agenda: not just making the playoffs, but to compete for the Cup! I can't wait for next season!

Go Leafs Go! :D

Also proud of my boys......... amazing the way they came together after the versteeg/Beauchemin/Kaberle trades...... they will remember forever how valuable each and every point is worth, especially in October, November, and December. The call ups did their job and showed Burke and Co. exactly what they have... The Leafs are One Dman, and a Top Centreman away from contending, Cant wait for October 2012.... but in the meantime i will very much enjoy watching the habs lose, starting with saturday night! :)

Leafs suck ass

Leafs eliminated from playoffs

http://www.torontosun.com/sports/hockey/2011/04/05/17889056.html

SIX ! Count 'em SIX straight fucking seasons without making the playoffs! Only 2 teams in the entire NHL have not made the playoffs at least once since the lockout: Toronto and Florida! At least Florida has an excuse, they never spend to the cap max ... Ill say it again the Leafs suck donkey balls and blow chunks!

Well I do wish it for you guys !
I think you've been waiting long enough and actually amazed me on how much sh*t you can take for your team :)
I mean the white house should hire you guys to praise about US economy.

Leaf honeymoon’s over
http://www.thestar.com/sports/hocke...69820--cox-fun-ride-but-leaf-honeymoon-s-over

For the seventh straight spring, there would be no playoff games at the ACC.

There will be a great deal of effort and propaganda spewed by the Leaf organization in the coming days to proclaim this season a success

Burke has had 2 ½ years to get this house in order.

The truculence and aggression promised in late November, 2008, has never really appeared. The stats say this team doesn’t attack particularly well or defend efficiently,

CONGRATS TO THE LEAFS!!!

NEW franchise record!! 6th consecutive year missing playoffs!! The big question remains: Can they make it 7? Odds are YES!

It's the franchise-record sixth straight season the Maple Leafs will miss out on the playoffs. Only the Florida Panthers, who haven't qualified since 2000, are currently locked in a longer drought.

Well, well! Look at what the cat just dragged out of the trash can! :D

Leafs are planning to make a run for the Cup. Habs struggling just to make the playoffs, which will be a very short one for them.

Habs once again barely squeezed into the playoffs, making the playoffs on their 80th game of the season. Quite an achievement! :D

Leaf fans would give their left testicles to "barely squeeze" into the playoffs!! And they'd give the right one to have a run like the Habs had last season!!

P.S. I doubt you'll ever see, in your or my lifetime, the Leafs make a cup run...Chances are you'll see the Habs make a few though!

Six straight seasons out of the playoffs - Quite an achievement!

Leafs are planning to make a run for the Cup.

43 straight years without so much as a sniff of the Stanley Cup finals - Quite an achievement!

Current position after 80 games = 14
Still they are the 9th team to secure playoffs and they play at +5 from last year.

Price has done the job so far.
I'll have to pray for playoffs but so far, he managed to give us a very good show despite the team not being 'that' good.

The real turn-off so far are the stupid moove at the beginning of the season by letting go Halak and... getting Gomez (Doc's all-time favorite player):)

Now if Price proves me wrong and keep being very good in playoffs I will lose a lot of $$$.
But at least, it's gonna be exciting a bit.

If I was right, then it's gonna be shitty and unlike Halak, he will snap under pressure and I will make a lot of $$$.

Either way I win something ! :)

Here's for a little nostalgia !

Oh wait ! it wasn't the Leafs but the Bruins :) :)

why the Leafs fall down
http://www.torontosun.com/sports/hockey/2011/04/07/17912191.html

No matter how good a game they talk coming out of training camp — all that baffle gab about a new attitude — they forget that 29 other teams have made the same pledge. And most do a better job of sticking to it.

They never made it higher than eighth after Oct. 30 and are still adding to a six-year team record for spring futility.

Leafs HiberNation ?

I like that ! sounds ok to me !

Think its time to change the Big Bad Bruins for the 'Fat Bad Bruins' too :)
I mean we're in 2011 ! no ?

God I'm tempted to bet on the Habs against them.
I'd make a lot of $$$$ if it happens and would probably have a nice 'warm time' downtown mtrl to go along with it :)
