Hello Merlot. The Tatum O'Neal statement is a meaningless point. Hattie McDaniel was a black women who played a black servant in "Gone With The Wind". Some people were outraged at her role in the movie. But remember her famous quote " I rather play a black servant than be one".
It's important to know that both Shields and Foster are Ivy League graduates and lead perfectly normal lives. BTW, as you probably know Tatum O'Neal has battled drug addiction for years! Could the role of a young con artist in "Paper Moon" taken her over the edge?

Midnight Cowboy with Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voigt was about a young male prostitute for middle-aged women, played by Voigt, and his down trodden male pimp, named Ratso Rizzo, played by Hoffman. It was the only X-rated film to win an Academy Award. It won 3 - Best Actor, Best Director and Best Adapted screenplay. It played in 1969. It was Voigt's first major role.
I was too young to see the original version, but I don't think it had nudity in it. It's subject matter was considered X-rated at the time. Maybe, someone who was old enough at the time can say for sure whether the original had actual sex or nudity? It may have had simulated sex and partial nudity. I do remember the hype.

Yes, Jon Voigt had sex with Brenda Vaccaro and you saw her nude from the waist up. I guess the x-rating was more for the subject content; drugs, pimps, male prostitution and the overall seedy environment of NYC's Times Square at that time.

Donna Wilkes (Molly) was born in 1959 according to her bio. So if the movie was made/released in 1984 she was 25 playing a 15 yr old!

Newest Miami Vice episode is an interesting delve into the world of upscale male prostitution. Interestingly enough they never use just the term "escort" in the show, inserting the "Male" ahead of Prostitute. They also use "gigalo". It seems kind of a strange reverse bias to have an acceptable word to describe a male escort. I'm not aware that english contains a like word to specifically describe a female escort without using the word "girl" in it. The "W" word has be used to characterize a female escort, however its universally accepted PC is not clear.
