Yes sir it's all true - Paris & Jose in Toronto seen (note that I didn't type "I heard they were together..." the word "seen" was used on purpose) together at Club Ultra

Yup I agree, I was routing for Smyth, Pronger and the boys but Carolina deserved this one - Nothing better than a Game 7 to decide the Cup (well maybe Game 7 in overtime)

In other Hockey related news Josee Theodore (ex Montreal Canadien Vezina winner and favorite whipping boy) has been recently spotted holding hands with Paris Hilton
They played better hockey, yeah, but it just goes to show how important the seeding is. With the home advantage, you get to start with more momentum and wrap it up even easier.

Not to mention another Canada V USA angle. Was I the only one who noticed these paralels.

That's a pretty meaningless and irrelevant "angle" in the NHL given that the rosters of US-based teams consist of star players from Canada, Sweden, Czech Republic anyway. Just look at who's on the SC champ Carolina roster: Staal, Brind'amour, Cam Ward are all Canadians.

Well if that's the case, how come the Oilers managed to beat Detroit, San Jose and Anaheim all of whom were seeded higher than them and therefore the Oilers had to start the series away from home?

Predictions for 2007 Stanley Cup

Is it too early to predict next year's Stanley Cup finalists?;)

Maybe a 2007 MERB pool?! Pick the 2 finalists for 2007? Maybe a $ 10 contribution into a 2007 Stanley Cup pool...........hey Mods can this work?

The winner can spend the pot on his favorite SPs for a year! :p

Any hockey junkies out there wanna comment?
The Habs are 2-3 solid players away from serious contention, based on their showing against the Canes.
My all-time favorite all-around hockey player: Bob Gainey
Just ask the Russians of his era.
Wonder if Gainey can pull a "Sam Pollock" as GM and get the Habs back into the Stanley Cup finals in the next 3 seasons. I say he can do it. :D

Spin,

Since each player gets to take home the Cup for a day and since about half of the players on the Carolina roster are Canadians and presumably live in Canada in the offseason, the Cup will be in Canada for about 2 weeks. ;)

BobKnob,

I'm in the pool and I nominate you as the coordinator whatever that entails ;) . It is way too early to pick the 2007 SC finalists as there'll be several offseason trades and acquisitions. I'd rather wait until just before the 1st game of the season to see how the various club rosters shape up.

I suppose it's because the finals are a different beast.

The stats can't be purely coincidence.

Hockey Pool

Picasso:

Ok that makes 2 entries! A start at least.
I was thinking that by starting early we are kinda taking bets on the GMs drafting and trading well for their respective teams. Maybe you are right that it would be better to start a hockey pool once draft picks and trades are completed.......maybe start the day of the first exhibition games

Wonder who Gainey will pick up as a free agent. The Habs have room for a power forward/center at a Kovalev level. Gainey dumped Theodore's big-ass contract by trading him to Colorado.
Theo's big news of course is he is now Paris Hilton's latest man-toy:eek:
He shoots, he scores!!!!!!!!!

I would disagree. The pressure-packed playoffs are in themselves the second season and a different beast but the SC finals are simply another 7-game playoff series. And yes, what the Oilers did in the playoffs ain't pure concidence. Their performance shot down your theory about home ice advantage  ! Oh yeah, don't forget the Habs started their playoff series against the 'Canes in Carolina and beat them twice down there.
