Haha, says the fan whos so called "team" sits 5 points BEHIND the Leafs and out of a playoff spot, lol (save me the games in hand speech, you have to win them first)......You get Pitt next, good luck with that :) The young Leafs finally get some home cooking and a chance to rest after a long long (their longest of the year i do believe) road trip and a back to back. (cairo must have made the schedule out) ;)

It wasn't too difficult.

If you want something difficult: it's the leafs trying to win a game.

I wonder if Toronto played a great game in their latest loss? Maybe...although Stamkos scored as many goals by himself as all the leafs combined. Still, it was only the third consecutive loss for the leafs, and they HAVE managed to win 4 of their last 10 games.

James Reimer, often described as a "stud" by leaf fans, DID have a save percentage of .833. Is that good?

TBay had 9 giveaways, TO 10.

TBay had 8 takeaways, TO 5.

TBay won 33 faceoffs, TO 24.

So it SEEMS that TBay outplayed TO...but maybe the leafs WERE great. Give them credit: in a very rare occurrence, they actually did outshoot their opponents in this HOME LOSS.

Rest???? They've been RESTING ever since the Olympics. They probably want to be well RESTED for the start of their golf season. Only 3 more years and then you can celebrate A HALF CENTURY of failure!

BTW: Excuses are for losers: aw gee, the poor little babies had a road trip - sniff, sniff.

Considering that they have to rely on a goalie (Howard) who only had now a decent game, and hasn't been able to deliver good performances, back-to-back, playing against the Wild and Columbus might not be as straightforward as one would think.

Quite true, and we must remember that along with Long Island and Montreal, Columbus was the other team that beat the leafs in their first 3 consecutive losses after the Olympics.

Actually the Wild are a very good team and will give the lowly wings fits and it could be the Wild who put a end to the their playoffs hopes as they play them back to back this saturday and sunday. If by chance the Wild win both games in regulation and the teams just above or just below win their games, it is goodnight time for the team from the bankrupt city. Good stuff Rev!

While the Wings' schedule doesn't seem all that difficult after their game against the Pens, they'll be playing teams who are in the same desperate situation as they are; battling for a spot in the playoffs. Considering that they have to rely on a goalie (Howard) who only had now a decent game, and hasn't been able to deliver good performances, back-to-back, playing against the Wild and Columbus might not be as straightforward as one would think.

Great article GHG - thanks!

It accurately portrays how wretched the leafs have been all season and how lucky they are that their goalies have saved them from well-deserved defeats on many lucky occasions.

It also accurately points out that it was basically a Wings farm team that beat the inept leafs last night.

And just think: the article was written BEFORE tonight's loss against the Bolts - the third consecutive loss for Reimer and the leafs.

There is no controversy, Bernier is the clear #1 and Reimer will likely be dealt this summer. But he HAS been playing better than carey price lately, but that aint saying much lol.

Welcome back! Where you been

Funny, but you used to rave about how great Reimer was. Now - just like Carlyle - you're throwing him under the bus.

Gee, maybe the leafs were wrong to give up on Rask, Scrivens, Giguere, the Monster.....but that's what the leafs are all ABOUT: being consistently wrong.

Hey, how did David "7 year, $35 million" Clarkson do tonight? Oh, that's right: he was a LIABILITY as usual. Love it!

But look on the bright side: at least they got rid of Grabo and McArthur. Oops - maybe not, since Grabo and McArthur are doing better than just about all the leafs!

Strong game by the Leafs tonight, but the puck seemed to bounce Tampa's way (and questionable refereeing). Unfortunately, the Leafs lost tonight. But you can't win 'em all, right??? Montreal is up Saturday! Go Leafs Go! :D

Agree on all points. Anyone who understands the pro game especially the goalie position is easily frustrated with Reimer at times. (many times actually) He is not positionally sound which a great goalie has to be. He ofton looks confused as to where the puck is even when he has stopped it and it is under his pads. His rebound control was not good under the famous Francios Allaire's tutelage and seems to be getting worse. His confidence seems shot as well as he has lost his starters job. Carlyle and he seem to not care much for one another and in another year Jonathan "Big Game" Bernier is gonna be due a huge raise and Reimer will have to accept the same or less $ to stay which leads me to believe he will be dealt this summer.

Maybe just maybe he can turn his game around, but i do not think it will be in the Centre of the Hockey Universe, aka Toronto.
I agree: Bernier is here to stay as #1. The past few games were Reimer's chance to shine and he hasn't. He's a decent goalie but back up material, which I don't think he's willing to settle for.

Hey Joel here's something else you'll love. :D

As you can see, Petula's contract is for a total of $36,750,000 over seven years however $27,750,000 of it is in signing bonuses.

Now for those who don't know much about hockey, (Leaf fans) when the Leafs decide to buy him out over the summer the signing bonuses will still count against their cap hit. In other words, at best they would get 2/3 relief of only $9,000,000.

Leave it to the laughingstock of the sport to be the first to screw up under the new CBA. :thumb:

You're right G1G - I love it! I also compliment you on your excellent analysis. Too bad for the leafs that their management lacks your common sense and knowledge of hockey.

Oh those poor, poor leafs - they ALWAYS play "strong" and "great" but gosh don't you know that:

1. They're so unlucky.
2. They sometimes have to play ROAD games - surely no OTHER team does.
3. The refs always favor the other team.
4. When they play home games, they're still upset because they remember the road games they had to play - and surely no OTHER team ever has to play road games.
5. The other team's goalies always play well against them.
6. Not fair: Gustav Nyquist is too good.
7. Not fair: Steven Stamkos is too good.
8. Not fair: John Scott, P.K.Subban, Milan Lucic, and DANNY BRIERE scare the shit out of Dion and the other leafs.
9. They get suspended for little things like illegal, dangerous, dirty hits - it's just not fair!
10. How come all the OTHER teams get the good players? It's not fair!
11. The NHL MADE them get rid of Rask, Scrivens, Giguere, the Monster, Grabo and McArthur.
12. The NHL MADE them bring in David Clarkson.
13. Dave Bolland is injured. No OTHER team ever has injuries.
14. The ice is bad.
15. Dion couldn't concentrate because one of his bow ties was missing.
16. Phil couldn't concentrate because Tyler was bugging him to go to Weight Watchers.
17. Carlyle didn't have time to draw up a game plan because he was trying to figure out how the toaster works.

Poor, POOR babies!

I can't believe it but I agree with everything you wrote here! You poor, poor leaf fan: look what your "stud" (as you used to call him) turned into. Yep, yet ANOTHER leaf FAILURE!

Gee thanks ig - your good luck wish seems to have worked, since the Wings beat the Pens 5-4.

P.S.: This was a much tougher win than the easy victory over the leafs.

P.P.S.: Too bad the leafs suck.
