As a public service and as a future point of reference, I think this would be a good time to put things into perspective in a segment I like to call “Leafs by the Numbers”.

Not only has Toronto not won a Stanley Cup in almost 50 years, but this sad- sack franchise has not even made it to the finals in the same time period!

- Toronto Maple Leafs: post 1967 expansion number of Stanley Cups won: ZERO

- Toronto Maple Leafs: post 1967 expansion number of Stanley Cup final appearances: ZERO

Except for Winnipeg, every Canadian based team and original 6 team has at least made it to the Stanley Cup finals since 1967.

Since only 1 round was needed to make it to the finals back in the original 6 days - this means that the bottom-feeding Toronto team has never won more than 2 rounds in the playoffs - EVER!

- Toronto Maple Leafs: number of times won more than 2 rounds in playoffs in franchise history: ZERO

O.K. you’re saying to yourselves: ‘but what have the Leafs done lately? No team can be this bad for so long‘? Sadly, this lowly franchise has fared even worse over the last 8 years. Toronto is the only team among a 30 team league to have missed the playoffs in every season of the previous CBA. That’s right - all 29 teams have at least made the playoffs once from the 2005/06 to 2011/12 seasons.

- Toronto Maple Leafs: number of playoff appearances from the 2005/06 to 2011/12 season (inclusive): ZERO

2005–06 : missed playoffs
2006–07 : missed playoffs
2007–08 : missed playoffs
2008–09 : missed playoffs
2009–10 : missed playoffs
2010–11 : missed playoffs
2011–12 : missed playoffs

Leafs haven’t won a playoff series in 10 calendar years !!!

A coach on the hot seat? You bet!

Quite a comment coming from someone whose team has made the playoffs exactly ONCE in the last decade (in a shortened season) and humiliated themselves that ONE time by staging the most cowardly and EPIC COLLAPSE in the entire HISTORY of Stanley Cup Game Sevens.

Quite a comment coming from a fan of a team that was stinking the joint out for most of the year until - INEXPLICABLY - they got hot and won some games.

Quite a comment coming from someone whose team has STILL been outshot and outplayed in the vast majority of games this season.

Quite a comment coming from a fan of a team whose "coach" was FIRED by his previous team, hired by the former FIRED GM of his current team, and who the majority of LEAF fans were BEGGING to be FIRED until a few weeks ago.

Quite a comment considering that Doctor Babcock is one of the greatest coaches today, the coach of the Gold Medal Canadian team, one of the most successful hockey coaches of all time, and considered the best coach in the NHL by your great and good friend Doc Holliday (although the good Doctor later tried to distance himself from the comment - which fortunately had been SAVED FOR POSTERITY).

Quite a comment, considering that the great Detroit Red Wings have made the playoffs for 22 consecutive seasons (during which the wretched leafs spent most of their time on the golf course) and have won 4 Cups in the past decade and a half.

I guess the "logic" (cough! sputter! choke!) of your comment shows very well why you are a longtime fan of Canada's National Embarrassment, that sad sack organization ungrammatically known as the maple leafs. You poor, poor soul: you must be awfully depressed after 47 YEARS of complete and utter failure.

Detroit also has to do something about their defense & their average goaltending. When Niklas Kronwall is your best defenceman, then something is definitely wrong. Jimmy Howard and the Monster are good goalies, but they are not true #1 goalies.

It could be worse. Our best D-man could be Dion Phaneuf (perish the thought!). THEN we'd have something to cry about!

You're correct about the goaltending. Next to injuries our biggest problem is Jimmy Howard. Luckily we have Petr Mrazek, who is not only the youngest of our 3 goalies but also the best. Here's hoping Kenny can ship Howard off somewhere and get a good asset in return.

It is no surprise to me that these dimwitted leaf fans are more concerned about winning and leading teams as the Habs and the Red Wings than the

reported injures to both their goalies and most especially Bernier. The bubble is going to burst. They can not go on letting 40 or more shots on goal and

expect their goalies to bail them out each and every game. As Crock would say.......' just saying.

Very funny...but for leaf fans it's not a joke, it's the sad, sad truth after 47 YEARS of nothing but complete and utter failure.

Well, it took the Boston Bruins 40 years to win another cup, and the Boston Red Sox 86 years to win another championship. It also took the Detroit Red Wings a.k.a. the "Dead Things" 42 years to win another cup. So 47 years ain't so bad.

1. The Wings, however, DID win after 42 years. For the hopeless leafs it's ALREADY 47 YEARS....and counting (and counting, and counting, and counting...)!

2. 47 is ALREADY 5 more than 42, and the hopeless leafs are STILL without a Cup.

3. What you and your fellow leaflover always seem to omit with these fatuous statements is that in the 42 years without a Cup, Detroit at least made it to the FINALS 6 times. The hopeless leafs have not only NOT won a Cup in 47 YEARS ...and counting, but they have not even made it to the freakin' Finals even ONCE in those 47 YEARS.

Obvious Conclusion: There is absolutely no comparison between the LONG-AGO Red Wing drought and the current and ONGOING leaf drought. Toronto's is FAR worse!

Believe it or not, the 'Dead Things' needed to go into the shootout to pull out a 2-1 'victory'. Unbelievable!

You know, it's funny but I recall you and (especially) Iggy being orgasmic with delight when the leafs fluked out some shootout victories this year. In fact Iggy has even been thrilled with several leaf LOSSES, claiming that they would make the "young" (sic) team better.

BTW, maybe the LEAFS could have used some shootout wins recently...rather than their three consecutive post-Olympic LOSSES against the likes of Long Island, Columbus and Montreal. They might also have preferred shootout wins rather than the LOSSES they've had this season against teams like Florida and (especially) Buffalo.

And speaking of "post-Olympic losses"...why did the LEAFS of all teams look so tired after the Olympics? They only HAD a pathetic 3 players in the Olympics - NONE of whom were able to medal. JVR and Tyler's roommate both had a lot of REST during the final 2 games of the Olympics as their squad could not even score a single goal in the 2 games that mattered most, and Kulemin has been asleep most of the season anyway. Contrast that with teams like the mighty Red Wings which had 10 or 11 Olympians, many of whom won a silver medal even without the two Henriks.

If they were a very young team (like the up and coming Leafs) then no worries about where they sit in the east on this date, but the fact they are a older team with their so called "stars" (who are mid to late 30's or older)being injured and or declining skills (datysuk/zettyburg/clown alfie/bertuzi/franzon/legwand/cleary/samuelsson) Doc's predictions look pretty darn good.

Here's a suggestion: Have someone do some research and tell you the results on names like Nyquist, Tatar, Mrazek, Sheahan, Jurco, DeKeyser, Lashoff, etc. Maybe you'll realize that as usual you're making ridiculous and incorrect statements.

Hmmmmmm,

The Sedins you say

1. Not Canadian, CHECK!
2. Not American, CHECK!
3. European, CHECK!
4. Older and declining skills, CHECK!

Yup, i could see this happening :thumb:

You forgot:

5. Individual NHL Trophy winners, CHECK!
6. Likely Hall of Famers, CHECK!
7. Successful Olympians, CHECK!
8. Stanley Cup Finalists, CHECK!

Not SURPRISING that you forgot those 4 elements, since those 4 elements are UNKNOWN CONCEPTS to the leafs, who have NO individual Trophy winners since 1967 except for Little Dougie Gilmour's lone Selke win in 1993, NO likely Hall of Famers, NO successful Olympians, and NO Stanley Cup Final appearances in 47 YEARS and counting.

That's because the Dead Things have long held the title as the NHL's version of "Team Europe". Most of the team is made up of Europeans & Scandinavians. Therefore, since Europe & the Scandinavian countries were well represented at the Olympics, it's only natural that teams who are filled with the dirty europeans (and scandinavians) had more players going to the games.
