Even if a vaccine is developed, the risk-adverse might still not be able to come out of the house for four years.
Producing 7,800,000,000 doses is quite the task, especially if it is a two-shot process, and even more so if it is an annual shot due to mutations, like many experts predict.
All said and done, we better realize that the virus will be with us for years to come and accept that the new normal, living with various safety measures as well as testing and contact tracing, will be with us even once a vaccination is widely available. Keep your mask close and friends—at a...

I was impressed by that scientist in a long-ago post who touted therapeutics and seemed to almost laugh at the concept of vaccines. I am starting to understand him now.
Interesting philosophical question. What if North America goes pure capitalist on this and sells the vaccine to each customer as a rationing mechanism, I.e., there are 50 million doses available after it is given for free to medical professionals, to cover 500 million people, so it costs say $5,000 for the vaccination until more is produced. Do some sex workers get their dose paid for by a bunch of their wealthier Johns chipping in, since all their customers want them to be safe and healthy.
