These 4 countries are viewed as the 4 best governmental responses to the pandemic:

I'll tell you how without even having to read the article: by not claiming the coronavirus was a hoax and that it would 'all go away' like magic by April. By taking the advice of your experts & inteligence agencies back in December & January. By not sitting on your fat ass & do nothing other than tweet, golf, attend many rallies & try to start a war with Iran from January to March. By not waiting until spring break is over to finally close down the beaches. And so on. That's how you properly respond to an incoming pandemic.

Although many posts in this thread speculated that Chinese wet markets were the origin of Covid-19, it is now being somewhat widely reported that there is an investigation into whether the release came from a Wuhan Lab studying coronaviruses in bats:

Although the lab theory is entirely valid the chinese wet markets are still a tremendous problem for the world's health and should be shut down by the chinese government. Way too many viruses & epidemics come out of those markets. SARS originated in one of those markets. Many other viruses. And likely this one. The chinese government has full power over every single individual in China. It would be extremely easy for it to shut down those wet markets.

Doc, I am no Trump fan but you are wrong about this. He never called it a hoax..the MSM twisted his words and ran with the headlines. Look it up..even Facebook fact checked those articles and flagged them as giving false info.

That is correct. But he did say he had it under control and that the virus would 'disappear'... It's fox news that called it a hoax.

But let's be fair. Most other countries did not see that coming as well or we would have starting to prepare for this in January. Which no country did (except maybe south-korea).

The problem with the USA is the coming election. Trump is politicizing this every chance he gets. People are dying because of his decision based on looking good to raise his political campaign.

Donald Trump said Canada was doing a good job of controlling the spread of COVID-19 and said closing the border could be one of the very first preventive measures to be lifted.

He made the comment Wednesday during his daily press conference from the White House.

The two neighboring countries have imposed a travel ban across the border for non-essential travel. The ban, which has been in effect for almost a month, is set to end on April 21, unless extended.

The decision to reopen the border, however, does not depend solely on American will, while the United States is still grappling with the heaviest death toll in the world in terms of people infected with COVID-19.

The epidemic is particularly virulent in the state bordering New York.

In Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reiterated that measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus will have to remain in place for several weeks.

What do you think?

I think it's a very good thing.

But what about Trump?

Gov. Cuomo and Mr. Trump don't always agree.

Trump, Trump. Trump Trump Trump.

The governor is in charge of the state. So, what about Trump? Nothing.

Trump, Trump. Trump Trump Trump.

As much as I despise Trumpet I think there is way too much emphasis on him (and he likes that...).

And not enough on China. At least today the WHO ask them the close down their wet market. But more needs to be done.

The cover up and their numbers of cases do not make a fucking sense.

Exactly! The President of the United States is only at the head of one of three branches of the American Government. He also has no say in what the State Governors chose to do for the states they're in charge of. They're the boss of their states, not Donald Fucking Trump!

If it were me i'd group up all those MAGA morons and put them all on a big cruise ship & let them sail away far away.....very, very far away! America would be 100% better off without Trump & his band of morons!

What do i think? If i'm Trudeau there's no fucking way i'm re-opening the border until at least 2021. If not we'll all be back to square one since the United States will continue being the world's epicentre of the coronavirus as long as a moron like Donald Trump is still the President!

So as long as there is still no reliable vaccine available there is no fucking way that the borders should be re-opened....ESPECIALLY NOT THE AMERICAN BORDER!! If the Canadian government has to wait until 2022 to re-open the border than so be it!

Totally agree. The cover up rumors have been buzzing around now for a few months. If it turns out that China deliberately covered this up there should be hell to pay. When this broke out China made sure to shut down travel within China from Wuhan but allowed international flights to still happen. Protecting them and letting the world suffer.

'In Deep' Challenges President Trump's Notion Of A Deep-State Conspiracy

TERRY GROSS, HOST

"Author David Rohde refutes Trump's claims about a "deep state" — and argues that the president is the one creating a parallel shadow government filled with like-minded loyalists."

"ROHDE: So the amazing thing about this moment with Trump is that he feels this sort of disdain for career government officials. And he doesn't trust them. He feels they're blocking him from being able to carry out his powers as president. And then he's joining a long-running, decades-old conservative belief that the presidency was sort of weakened too much in the 1970s.

After Watergate and the other reforms I mentioned, Congress and the judiciary shouldn't have any say whatsoever in how the president, you know, conducts his business.
One of the reforms in the '70s was creating inspectors general. It was created by Congress. And this was a way to oversee money, such as the $2 trillion bailout. And there's a whole philosophy that's existed since Watergate, since the Ford administration. And back then, Dick Cheney, who was President Ford's chief of staff, and Donald Rumsfeld, who also served as chief of staff, led by Antonin Scalia, believed that Watergate had gone too far, the presidency was too weakened, and one young adherent to this belief was Bill Barr.

And so when you see Trump sort of firing all these people, he's reflecting this sort of decades-old belief that, of the three branches, the presidency is the most important - Bill Barr talked about this in a speech at the Heritage Foundation - and that whenever the country has sort of faced war or natural disaster, it's the executive branch that has been able to move decisively enough to save the nation. And that is under threat because the powers of the president have been curtailed. And you need to sort of ignore Congress and ignore the courts."

I agree. Iceland's population is a fraction of Singapore's, which went into a more stringent lock down to contain a second wave.

I think Germany could serve as a good example for Canada and the US.

South Korea has a couple of companies that have scaled up and are making diagnostic test kits that the US may end up buying.

I would not trust any diagnostic test kits made in China.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/16/...tion=click&module=Top Stories&pgtype=Homepage

"LONDON — The two Chinese companies were offering a risky proposition: two million home test kits said to detect antibodies for the coronavirus for at least $20 million, take it or leave it.The asking price was high, the technology was unproven and the money had to be paid upfront. And the buyer would be required to pick up the crate loads of test kits from a facility in China.

Yet British officials took the deal, according to a senior civil servant involved, then confidently promised tests would be available at pharmacies in as little as two weeks. “As simple as a pregnancy test,” gushed Prime Minister Boris Johnson. “It has the potential to be a total game changer.”

There was one problem, however. The tests did not work."
