I posted an example of it earlier in the thread. All the white guys who didn't get scholarship offers for the 30 years John Thompson coached Georgetown and recruited exclusively black players in order promote opportunities for them, but not white guys.
This isn't racism, it's a way to give opportunities to people who normally wouldn't get them because of oppression. I'm sorry that the white dudes didn't get the scholarship. lol.

So basically they didnt earn it. A certain group of people were discriminated upon because of the color of their skin. Has nothing to do with opportunity.

Honestly I think this thread should be closed because it's clearly causing very intense reactions and emotions in people, myself included.

Leave the emotions at the door.
That's how you have a healthy debate/conversation.
Alright Carl Jung :)

I'm sorry if I got worked up over this. I don't want to pour oil on fire. I'm done with this thread because I don't have the energy for it.

In any case, personally, I am open to receiving clients of any ethnicity. :)
Same thing in my personal life, I don't care what race someone is.

The black guys Thompson recruited probably would have received scholarship offers from most other Division 1 colleges (the vast majority of them anyway). I would suggest he left a couple of NCAA championships on the table by his recruiting- might have been different if he offered a couple of white sharpshooters scholarships, because that's what his 1983 and 1985 teams that fell short could have used. The bottom line is that if he recruited normally or non-racially for typical basketball roster construction he would have had probably 25-30 white kids (conservative estimate) graduate during his tenure, with a great degree and also improve the floor spacing on some of his shooting challenged teams. I am sure he probably thought he could win with the defense his all black teams played, and they did win a lot, but he did leave a few championships on the table and left lots of white shooters without scholarships, who would have helped those teams that fell short.

I never said that only white people can be racist. I've witnessed people of other races be racist. I just said you can't be racist to white people in North America. And yes I have been outside of Canada and North America. Many times. I know that in some countries white people get discriminated against, but learn a bit about history of colonialism and how Europeans and then North Americans fucked up a lot of countries. You underestimate me. I respect you and think you're a very intelligent and kind person, but don't underestimate me.
This is the first time you are specifically saying you can’t be racist to white people only in North America.
Again this is completely false.
You think some black people or Asian people or any other race living in North America don’t hate white people and want nothing to do with them simply because they are white,
Tell me what would you call that other than racism.
You ask me to not underestimate you and then you make statements like this.
Yes you are a kind likeable gentle person with many fabulous qualities and as a person I would be happy to know you but that does not mean I agree with your view points.

I already said, it's true that people of other races can hate white people because they view us as oppressors. I agree with you on this.
Is this racism? No. The history of racism is complex and race is a social contruct that was created by ppl of european descent to feel superior to certain groups of people and to allow genocides and other types of violence to happen. How do you not understand this? The system here is made by and for white people and for men. I understand that yes, there are ppl who hate white folks because they view us as oppressors like I said. In my opinion this isn't racism. I think it could be discrimination in some contexts tho.

I can't blame for example a black woman for having negative feelings towards me because I get more privileges than she does. It's not fun being disliked by anybody, but it's something I can understand.

Of course it is racism why do you keep insisting that it isn’t. Who put this into your head that just because you are white you cannot be discriminated against be hated and even killed.
Why do you insist in trying to look for a different word.
Pure and simple it is racism.
What system are you talking about there is no system hatred is hatred killing someone because you hate them because of the colour of their skin and hating them because of the colour of their skin is racism regardless if they are black white or any other colour.

Making a distinction because of colour, race , or difference is racism in itself if it is perpetuating hate.

It is very minuscule compared to the rest of the world and that is what I was comparing it to, simple mathematics lol. Canada has 38- 40 million population how many died because of racism in health care or in total because of racism.
You want to compare that to just a small little part called Gaza.
Most people should be so lucky to live here in Canada, racism here is alive for sure but nothing compared to the rest of the world.
Canada is not at literal war on our own soil, and we have few inhabitants, correct.

if you compare health disparities per capita, well, fuck here's the first thing I found:

Highlights
• Patterns of racial health inequalities differ across the United States and Canada.
• Black-white and Hispanic-white inequalities are larger in the United States.
• Aboriginal-white inequalities are larger in Canada.
• Socioeconomic factors do not explain inequalities across racial groups equivalently.
• Levers to reduce health inequalities may be found at the societal level.

Why do you think they are at war because they feel the love or because there is lethal racism to the point of ethnic cleansing.
Let me tell you, you are lucky to be living in Canada.
Yes there is racism here like in every country in the world.
Canada is one of the best places with freedoms and opportunities that people in most countries can only dream about and yes racism that is minuscule compared to other countries.
I think most of you talk about things you have never lived and hopefully never will looking it up on google is not the same as machine gun fire around you and refugee camps all because you are different.

Let's reel it back to the primary topic at hand. We're all going off on tangents. Scotch anyone? That slimey bastard Vernon stole my cigar.

I would argue that black players just happen to be much better basketball players and he wanted a winning team.i am not a huge basketball fan but even with my limited knowledge it is obvious that the majority of the best players are black and we’ll deserve to be at the top based on their skills.
Now if his teams were always at the tail end of the league then I would question both his motives and judgement.

African Americans, despite being a racial minority, have made up the majority of NCAA and NBA players since the 1970s and 1980s. In 2023, they represented 14% of the U.S. population but accounted for 70% of the NBA, a fact that is unrelated to preferential hiring or reverse racism. Thompson's preferential recruiting could be interpreted as virtue-signaling, affirmative action, or discrimination. However, it was arguably in effect a self-serving strategy that benefitted the Hoyas' win percentage to target talented Black players for recruitment—most of whom probably would have been selected anyway based on merit alone, making this an imperfect example.
All of that is true but Thompson recruited 100% black players for a long period of time and that's just not typical basketball roster construction. Yes it's a black dominated sport, but 100% black rosters, except at the historically black colleges, are and were very rare. In the 1985 NCAA championship game, Thompson's Georgetown team was historically upset by huge underdog Villanova, which shot an unthinkable NCAA record 78% against the defensively superlative Georgetown. What Villanova had on their team is exactly the player Georgetown lacked, white sharpshooter Harold Jensen. That year in particular, Georgetown had the best team in college basketball, and I saw them in person several times as I was in college at that time.
