Huh? Lol What are you talking about? Everything is always Trump's fault? You sound like Purplem. Lol Do you think other politicians are any different? They all lust for power. And government is never held accountable for anything. Look at Trudeau, he got away with treason, ethics violations, the WE Scandal, Lavalin, throwing Wilson-Rayboult under the bus, throwing Garneau under the bus? Need I go on.

You say Democracy, I call it Democrazy: A system that supports the notion that if an idea is popular with 51% of the people then the idea must be forced on everyone else.
Voting so that the majority gets their way sounds good at first.
After all, we think, is it not good that most people are pleased with the outcome?
But if the majority wants to harm the minority, as so often happens, majority rule begins to sound pretty bad.
Majority rule ultimately means minority oppression. Since we are all unique individuals, each of us are part of some minority due to the color of our skin, our religious beliefs, our ideas about how things should be, etc..
When the majority tries to impose their will on us, democracy does not seem so benign. We take turns being victims and aggressors.
This is a prescription for eternal war.
Instead of majority rule (democracy), each of us should rule ourselves as long as we do not initiate physical force, fraud, or theft against others.

Expecting bureaucrats to make life better for us is like waiting for a train that can never come.
Most political parties do not want to fix government in the only way that will help you prosper, because it would mean giving you liberty and giving up their power over you.
When I vote, I vote Libertarian, because it is the only party that wants the power to free you from the clutches of the others.

Sadly, many Liberal voters are unaware that our government has become the problem and still blindly support it.
Consequently, government grows bigger, destroying our freedom even further.
Patriotism is not about supporting your government; it is about making sure that your government supports freedom.
Anything less is an invitation to tyranny.
Please don't go on. Way too much "anti-government libertarian crazy" to unpack here.

I find both the US and the rest of the free world especially Europe completely gutless.
They are arming the Ukrainians and watching idly by as thousands of them die needlessly in an unjust invasion.
They could put a stop to this instantly by first supplying Ukraine with the latest equipment not the aging crap that they have done so far and taking to the sky with Europes fighter jets and putting an end to Russian aggression completely by destroying anything Russian inside Ukraines borders.
There is no other way to deal with tyrant dictators like Putin.
There are two sides to this issue both legitimate which makes it very complicated.
Russia for no reason invaded Ukraine with the argument they are Nazis even though Zen and many leaders are Jewish and have a huge Jewish Memorial. But just like a certain former US Pres truth means nothing just what they determine in their mind is truth.

Russia is committing war crimes every day by devastating civilian targets and killing by drones (from Iran) and missiles. The brave Ukraine soldiers have defended themselves far better than anyone thought possible.

Biden has restored US confidence with most of the world and NATO after the former criminal Pres destroyed global relationships among many other crimes and frauds like a fake university, fake foundation and convicted of tax fraud organization, and $millions in damages by a jury in one of many civil suits. One of the biggest concerns world leaders have expressed is if they can count on the US in the future with some idiot like Trump again.

Just like we need our leaders to be accountable so we must hold Russia accountable for their ongoing war crimes and invading for no factual basis a sovereign country.

However, neither Biden nor NATO want to risk a direct confrontation with Russia, especially with their threat of using nuclear weapons, although most experts do not believe Putin would be so dumb to do it. Yet, no one wants a wider war with Russia, therefore rule has been to only provide defensive weapons. Now sending a Patriot battery but it is very complicated to use and have to train them to use it and can not defend all of Ukraine with just one battery.

I somewhat reluctantly believe in a more robust response (just like I hope like a Crime Boss Trump winds up in prison for many years) to deter Russia or like-minded fools to start a war. But it should be a NATO unified action, not just the US.

When missiles are fired from Russia the launch sites should be destroyed. NATO and others that may participate should have targets lined up and a massive coordinated air strike into Russia with waves of fighters maybe rotating between different allies taking out the launch sites. Russia would not dare move again NATO. And this is perfectly a legal defense under International law for the illicit Russian invasion and the ongoing massive war crimes (civilian targets are a war crime).

We need accountability and punishment (Russia should be required to pay $zillions for war damages to Ukraine). Just like Trump should be held accountable and punished for his assisting an insurrection, massive tax fraud, and the huge amounts under civil cases. We need to go after Trump just like the mob bosses he acts so much like and Putin for acting more like Hitler at least in regard to Ukraine.

I am more of a libertarian on some issues, a Republican on some issues (less regulations), and a liberal on other issues.
But I could not vote for a libertarian since it would be a feel-good but wasted vote since they will not win elections.

Today the Republican party is not the old party of Reagan etc. Like many Republicans, I feel it has been hijacked by the MEGA racist anti-democracy folks so I vote Democratic since I want nothing to do with the current majority it seems that control the Republican party!

At least you are being honest, we both knew you like big government.
Please speak for yourself and kindly don't tell me what you think I know. I like government of, by, and for the people. I believe in democracy. I believe in majority rule. But this isn't a thread about you or I. It's about the Republican Party. Unfortunately, the majority of today’s MAGA republican party doesn't believe in democracy since they only accept the results of elections that they win.

Yes Gaby.

U.S. Republican House leader Kevin McCarthy failed in two rounds of voting to become House Speaker on Tuesday, a historic defeat with no clear way out as House Republicans dug in for a long, messy start to the new Congress.

Needing 218 votes in the full House, McCarthy got just 203 in both rounds — less than even Democrat Hakeem Jeffries in the Republican-controlled chamber.

McCarthy had pledged a "battle on the floor" for as long as it took to overcome right-flank fellow Republicans who were refusing to give him their votes. But it was not at all clear how the embattled Republican could rebound after becoming the first House Speaker nominee in 100 years to fail to win the gavel from his fellow party members on the initial vote.

Before the second vote, rival-turned-McCarthy ally, conservative Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, who received six votes in the first round, rose to urge his colleagues — even those who backed him as an alternative — to drop their opposition.

The expected two year shit storm in the House has begun. Republicans can't even agree on a House speaker much less legislate or govern. All they are capable of is chaos.

We all could have predicted this and many of us did. It's no surprise that if you put a bunch of hateful, contemptible, corrupt, stupid, useless, self-serving, lazy, lying snakes in the same pit, they will start injecting their poisonous venom into each other.

Look at this sickening cast of characters:

Spineless, valueless, useless Trump buttkisser Kevin McCarthy...who would do anything and betray anyone to become Speaker.

QAnon enthusiast MTG, probably the stupidest person in the history of the USA (and perhaps the entire world) ever to be elected to political office, with the obvious exception of braindead cult leader Donnie himself.

Matt "Gas Mask" Gaetz, who should be the lead clown in some circus. Wait, I'm wrong, because he already IS the lead clown in a circus. Like many circuses, it's filled with a collection of freaks and misfits. Matt's circus is of course the joke that's called the Republican Party.

Jim Jordan, a noxious individual who allowed all sorts of sexual harassment to take place when he was a wrestling coach and who was one of the main traitors involved in the treasonous failed attempt to stage a coup against a democratically elected government.

Lauren "Guns" Boebert: The only reason she's not the dumbest person in the USA is that the USA is also home to Trump, MTG and Gaetz.

Then there's all the rest of the trash in this scummy party that represents all the worst things not just about America but about any country on the planet.

It's great watching these imbecilic, corrupt pieces of slime destroy each other.

Maybe even some of the MAGAmorons who support these disgusting fools will FINALLY see the light...but sadly most of them won't, because anyone who has continued to support the GOP even after everything that's happened obviously has an IQ level lower than a pineapple.

Purplem, I liked it but giving stupidest person award to MTG is like declaring an election winner without an election. Don't get me wrong: MTG is painfully stupid, but there are too many people in the modern GOP that would give her a serious challenge for that title.

Have you already forgotten Herschel Walker? Or some dude who has lived for almost 80 years and somehow doesn't know ingesting bleach is bad for you?! (I know you mentioned him, but still...)

Walker is certainly in the running for the award, I agree, but I didn't include him for two reasons: 1. He was never elected (thank Heaven!) and I named only people who had been. In particular I spotlighted the key players in today's comical attempts to name a Speaker...something that the House failed to do for the first time in 100 years (!), thanks to the bumbling, incompetent, infighting Republicans. 2. I give him a TINY get-out-of-jail card because, like many former football players and soccer players, the poor guy very possibly suffered extensive brain damage playing his sport. The fools that I listed don't have that same excuse.

As for Donnie, I DID include him, as you noted.

BTW, even if I HAD included Herschel, I think I might still have put Donnie and MTG above him...but when you're rating the dregs of humanity it's really hard to fine-tune which one is the absolute worst.

I agree with you 100% that "many people in the modern GOP would give her a serious challenge for that title".

The problem, of course, is this vicious circle where the GOP appeals to low-information voters while simultaneously voting in low-information representatives.

Appeal to low-info voters example: a few years ago a Republican Senator named James Inhoffe stood on the Senate floor and said global warming couldn't possibly be real. Why? Because he had a snowball in his hand on the Senate floor. (Only you know-it-all liberals understand there's actually a difference between weather and climate).

Voting for idiots example: on Tuesday, who did Trump blame for McCarthy's failure to win Speaker of The House? Mitch McConnell. But McConnell is in the Senate, not the House. Even if you look at Trump's McConnell criticism as the axe he always grinds with McConnell (Trump has gone after McConnell several, several times since he left office), at least have it make one bit of sense by going after someone who wields control over McCarthy's fate, like someone who is in *scratches head* THE HOUSE! The previous president of the United States doesn't know the difference between the House and Senate. Tout va bien!
