Depending on what is said before this phrase, your first word "then" could be translated as "ensuite", "alors" or puis"...For the rest, you could say "Alors je me suis étiré vers ma rame. Mais mon canoe se renversa".
Yes, Orallover was either kidding, or he used Babelfish to translate your phrases. The translation did make me smile, though...
Canoe should be pronounced as "ka - no- eh...

I'm a little confused.. In French you have three words for a paddle: palette, pagaie and rame?

They all mean the same thing.. or is one more appropriate than others?

Alors, je me suis étiré vers mon aviron mais mon canot s'est renversé.
A "rame" is normally attached to the boat as in a rowboat; you hold the "aviron" in your hands as in a canot. A canoë is the term used in written French, mostly in France; here we say a canot, pronounced ka-no.

Well, canoë is the term used in Quebec as well.

A paddle for a boat or canoe is pagaie

a paddle of a waterwheel is palette

a paddle for table tennis - ping pong is raquette

I've always heard of it as a rame whether its on a rowboat or a canoe. Definitely gonna have to ask one of my french buddies tomorrow and as for the other question s'est renverse is more appropriate.
