Habs D is not that great, at all........... decent at best

Joke all you want fool, the Maple Laff’s one dimensional defense will be among the most penalized in the league next season – any team with a decent forecheck and power play will light it up against the Maple Turds!

Speaking of next season, Montreal’s goals for/against ratio will still be higher than the Laffs – book it!

Bob’s done pretty well, signing Buffalo’s top point producing defense man:

Gill was a +11 last year (only Scuderi was better) and was clutch for the Pens in their cup run

Along with Markov, Hamrlik and Gorges (a combined 120 points and a + 14 last season) this is one of the best top 6 in the league!

These aren't "Facts", these are simply the biased opinions of a Leafs fan. The problem with you Doc is that even when you do make sensible points, they are invariably buried in a sea of exaggerations and hyperbole...

Like this:

-Josh Gorges doesn't even belong in the NHL; on any other team, he'd be in the minors.

Fact: Josh Gorges played 81 games in 2008-2009 and finished the season with +12. He led the team with a +7 rating in Nov. and a +10 rating in Dec... Blocked the most shots on the team in Nov. (34) and Dec. (35)... Led the team with a +5 rating in Feb...

Which makes your statement complete nonsense...

95% of Habs fans had never heard of Paul Mara until yesterday; those that also follow the NFL thought he was one of the owners of the NY Giants.

And what the hell does this have to do with anything??? Mara was the only Rangers D-man to finish the season in the '+' column. He's a big, "stay at home" D-man who rarely makes bad decisions in his own end (unlike Komisarek :D). He's also known as a great team player and a leader in the locker room. You don't believe me, just ask Rangers fans...

-The Habs will have an average, overpaid defence this coming season; similar to last season.

No. The top six is an improvement over last year's group. Not a "top of the league" group as our friend gohabsgo would put it, but still an above average solid group. And please stop with that silly "overpaid!" argument. It's getting old... not to mention meaningless.

And all the other stuff you wrote is of the "glass half empty" variety... You should look up the word "objectivity" in the dictionary. ;)

Josh Gorges was a decent defenceman for the Habs, as you pointed out (you seem to forget there's more to hockey than stats). But that was for THE HABS. On any other team in the NHL, he'd be a 5th or 6th defenceman AT BEST, if not in the minors.

Errr... HE IS a fifth or sixth D-man. And a good one at that. I never argued he was Markov or Lidstrom...

The fact he's playing on a bad team makes him look better than he actually is.

That's one of the stupidest things I ever heard. How does that work exactly? He managed to have good stats on a bad team therefore he's overrated? lollll

Paul Mara. Already with his fifth team in an otherwise marginal, very ordinary career. Some leader. A typical 'nobody' in the NHL. Enough said.

Everybody, including analysts, Rangers fans and even some Leafs fans believe that he's a good solid pick for the Habs.

This tiring "everything about the Habs is bad" routine of yours is getting old...

I think you need to just ignore this poster. At one time or another this poster has been a fan of every team in the division or conference – depending on what the standings look like.

The "everything about the Habs is bad" routine is just a product of jealousy, bitterness and frustration because that poster knows that Toronto will again miss the post season for the fifth straight year and that once again Montreal will be a playoff team

GOHABSGO, put your money where your mouth is, i will bet you a good seat to a LEAFS/habs game in the 2nd half of the season that the LEAFS will have more points by the allstar break than the Canadiens......and if you dont pay up when i win the bet, i will come and deflate all four tires of that "wagon" you live on......:D

Habs sign Moen!!!

Mara et Moen s'amènent à Montréal

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/278126.html

Moen is a good solid pick up and will fit in nicely on the Habs 3rd line and p.k. – welcome to Montréal!

Moen is yet another player Burke wanted but didn’t get. While Burke was signing non-nhl players from the Swedish league, Bob was busy adding toughness, hard work and size. Bob has done a great job - this group of players is grittier and more workman like than before. With Martin's coaching they will have some structure in their game and Price will have a monster year because of it. Gionta, Gomez and Cammellari will be part of some of the fastest and most exciting lines in the league while the “K” brothers will flourish with less pressure and a winning team behind them.

Funny how last year Laff fans were calling the Habs the Montreal Europeans – now the shoes on the other foot!

Possible lines – I like this team!

A. Kostitsyn-Gomez-Gionta
S. Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Cammaleri
Latendresse-Lapierre-Moen
Stewart-Chipchura-Metropolit/D'Agostini

Markov-Mara
Hamrlik-Spacek
Gill-Gorges
O'Byrne

Price
Halak

you no something here, i rag on the Habs alot because i am first and foremost a Leafs diehard fan, but like i have said before, i "like" the Canadiens , long story, but i like Montreal to be relavant because of the city i Love, but with that said, i really dont think they have done anything to improve over last years club, in fact i think they stayed the same, or maybe took a step backwards.......

Reminds me of an old joke.

Why is it the Leafs can't surf the internet?

Because they're incapable of putting three Ws together. :D

Tom Kostopoulos says no to Mtl

Yet another factually incorrect statement - he wasn’t offered a contract. His spot will be taken by Moen (who did by the way, say no to Toronto).

It’s too funny listening to Laff fans critique Montreal – maybe if you were a Detroit or Pittsburgh fan (teams that have actually won something – unlike the Maple Losers who haven't made it out of their conference in 43 years!) you might have some credibility. Oh wait, at one time or another you probably were/are a Wings and/or Pens fan too.
