Sorry Maple Loser fans, a marginal (at best) upgrade on the blueline (241 more PIM's) and significant subtractions up front (48 goals and 127 points less) DOES NOT = a playoff team

I think that with Beauchemin and Komisarek, the Leafs D did get better. A lot better? No. But still a noticeable improvement. But yeah, they should pray that their PK gets better.
Also, they just plain suck up front. Where will the offensive production come from? How are they going to win games exactly? They are certainly not going to win games 8-5...
So to have any chance at all (and a remote one at that) of making the playoffs, they are going to have to play a gritty, shutdown, defensive minded style of hockey.

Ironically, exactly what our two resident jokers here believe that Jacques Martin will impose on the Habs. lolllllll

Lol i do agree Habs could had a better season than what they did last year, injuries played a part tought, but Price let us down and he better become whats we expect him to become. But there has been major chances to the team lately, and im willing to give those guys a good chance to prove they deserve to wear an uniform with such prestige. They are not no names, we are talking about former players of New Jersey that was back then an excellent team, sure brodeur was there, but still, im sure reunited these guys can so something.

Leafs on the other end...have been a pyramid that lost blocks over the years since a while, and this year team looks to me like there is only the basement left. Sundin gone, antropov gone, kubina gone, lol honestly there best player is probably gonna be Grabovski this year...WOW... They dosen't have better goalie than us, but at least ours is young and if he take thing more seriously he can be better. Komisarek won't change this team all around, and its gonna be another year without the leafs in playoff you can be sure...

As for Konstintin and the hottie he was with...lol ill do her anytime, old or not...

Jacques Martin knows just defence, defence, defence...or in other words, boring, boring, boring.

I've already explained and proven to you that you are wrong about Martin. And yet, you keep repeating this fallacy like a mantra. Broken record...

Grabovski?? Sure, he could be their best player. Who knows? He just might be as good as any of those overpaid 2nd line bums that Gainey picked up!

Again, priceless! Keep dreaming...

i disagree, add the fact Exelby and also if they decide to keep Kaberle, along with Schenn, and Finger, thats extremely improved D,,,,,,

Where will the offensive production come from? How are they going to win games exactly? They are certainly not going to win games 8-5...

Easy, first with a vastly improved Defense, they wont need to win many 8-5 games, 2nd, when you get rid of some offense with Antropov and Moore, it gives others the time to shine, they have some very good quality offensive guys who should now step up, like Hagman, Blake, Ponikarovsky, Stajan, Grabovski , and several young guys in the mix who will get long looks this year, remember, this is rebuild year #1 for Burke and company, the pieces of the puzzle are being formed, and additional pieces will come soon.,,,,,, wait and see.... and i do not think Burke is done with adding an offensive piece to this puzzle this offseason yet........ stay tuned......... Habs are in turmoil while Toronto is heading in the right direction for once :D

I have to agree with one of Doc"s comments from the past, Komisarek is a BUM. An overpriced one at that. You guys will see for yourself this year. The guy can't shoot,he can't make a pass without using the boards and he can't fight. Good luck with this overpriced bum.

At least now we know that Habs & Leafs fans have at least one thing in common. Dreaming!

Doc a lot of people give you flak but every now and then your observations are right on the money. The quote here is a perfect example of how accurate you can sometimes be. Congratulations.

Where will the offense come from? From the same place as last year. Their offense was 10th overall in the NHL last season. Not too shabby! Where were the Habs??

Where were the Habs? In the playoffs (even if it was for a very short time).

You didn't ask, but where were the Laughs? In the same place as usual at playoff time: looking for the nearest golf course.

And as you well know, I am NOT a habs fan...but as bad as the habs are they are still better than those hopeless losers in Laughland.

I saw the same person last month standing in front of the Bell Center, in some protest requesting that Boring Bob sign Kovalev. This time around, this person was dressed in Habs attire.

No Doc he was the one guy in front of the ACC on July first begging Smilin' Brian to re-sign his favourite and the Leaf's best player Mikhail Grabovski. :D

Besides just look at the guy, he's got "Pork Town" written all over him. :p

Rumor also has it that he used to hang around Maple Leaf Gardens a lot in the 70's & 80's.

That was last year. Take away Antropov, Moore and Kubina’s production (48 goals and 127 points less) and this is what Toronto is left with in terms of goals scorers:

Blake 25
Ponikarovsky 23
Hagman 22

Grabovski 20
Stajan 15
Kulemin 15

Stempniak 14
Mitchell 12
Mayers 7

Throw in a generous 20 to 25 goals from the defense and fourth line and thats around 180. Colorado was the lowest scoring team in the league last year with 199 goals – the Laffs will be hard pressed to beat that this year.

Where were the Habs??
Not on the outside looking in like the Maple Losers were - and will be again this year, for a fifth straight season!

Jacques Martin knows just defence, defence, defence...
As has been pointed out before, Jacques Martin’s teams in Ottawa were not defensive teams but instead put up big offensive numbers.

That's the only type of hockey that Habs fans will see this season. B-O-R-I-N-G hockey!!!

Habs fans will see W-I-N-N-I-N-G hockey this season, Laff fans will see L-O-S--I-N-G hockey this season! :D

why is he overpriced? he took less than what Mtl would have paid him, why? cause he didnt like the direction the Habs were going, he is a smart man

Komisarek is one of those guys who has alot of intangibles that make him a very high demand D man......... he's big, has skill, usues his head (smart), doesnt make to many mistakes, is a team Leader....... all that equals a very good D man in todays NHL

Montreals Loss is Toronto's gain,......... thanks Habs! :D

Thanks for the prediction, genius!

As for me, i predict you'll once again pull the disappearing act & go hiding back to your hole a month into the season. Don't stay in that shit hole more than a month this time, okay? This thread needs its #1 clown!! :D

2 years? Huh that was the part season that he didn't started the season like everybody and joined the canucks later, so overall he was gone for only 1 season, and see what happened with the leafs, there best player and scorer gone, from the start nobody expected them to make the playoff...and well that was it.

As for Jaques Martin, well i give the dude a chance, he wasen't too succesfull in florida, but this team was never very successfull anyway by the start, and trading there best player(luongo) was the dumbest idea ever.

But he did do well in ottawa, but again ottawa until 2 years ago was always a good team making the playoff every year.

So now he got a middle team, better than the florida panthers, not as good as the old senators, lets see what he can do. If the season suck and all, and montreal dosen't make the playoff, then we can deal with the guy...

Because the Doc says so,he wrote that quote below, but I forgot, that's before he was a Leaf..

"Komisarek will likely be gone to free agency....very overrated & he'll probably receive offers in the $4 million+ range."

Hey I like Komisarek. He's a good 3rd or 4th D-man (unless he can play with someone like Markov, which the Leafs don't have), so he has pros and cons like most players of his ability:

Pros: Big and physical, blocks a lot of shots, leader
Cons: Stricly a defensive D-man, prone to mistakes in his own zone, takes a lot of penalties.

Is he a big loss for the Habs? No because Paul Mara (big, a little less physical, rarely makes mistakes in his own zone, team player) is an adequate replacement at half the price. :)

The Leafs have someone named Kaberle who's better than Markov.

As for Paul Mara, he's a marginal journeyman player. A bum. A stiff. Nothing more, nothing less.

Looks like Laff fans are feeling pretty insecure about their team's chances this year - why else would they continually be spouting nonsense? :D

A bum. A stiff. Nothing more, nothing less.

Interesting. You were saying the same thing about Komi when he was a Hab.

The Leafs have someone named Kaberle who's better than Markov.

You're making it too easy for me Gus, once again, you've got it ass backwards - don't let the facts get in the way of your meaningless drivel. Markov's numbers are better - more goals, more points, better plus/minus, higher shooting percentage and he's more durable.

since the lockout:

Kaberle: 32 goals, 209 points in 295 games, -14, 5.8%

Markov: 44 goals, 217 points in 304 games, +14, 8.6%

LEAFS NAME VP OF HOCKEY OPERATIONS

Long-time Burke pal Poulin signs on

Ex-NHLer becomes third man in Leafs' management hierarchy

In hindsight, tracing the connections, Dave Poulin's surprise arrival as part of the Maple Leafs front office should have been anticipated. There were too many links for it not to seem pre-ordained.
