Jonathan "Big Game" Bernier owns a .942 save percentage at even-strength this season, second only to Ben Bishop among regular NHL starters.

Big game tonight. I know it is still early but if they lose ,they are in trouble. I'll be watching.

The team in Canada's largest market needs to be better for NHL.

Why, we in NYC don't have it

Why should you ?

Ten points to Reverdy for the correct answer!

I saw them together at last Saturday's Raptors game and wondered who was that gorgeous blond wearing a baseball cap sitting next to Bernier. So i googled it up and got my answer! :)

Another HUGE game by the Leafs and especially Phil "The Thrill" Kessel and Jonathan "Big Game" Bernier tonight in the desert. Man, has the addition of Tim Gleason had a calming effect on our D or what? So far, great work by Nonis, again. Leafs can tie the Canadians tomorrow night with a win and go up by 7 points on detroit as well. Gonna be a tough game against the Patrtick Roy led Av's tho and i have a feeling we might lose this one, but hoping for at least a point.... GLG!

I agree. And guess who's now 7th in scoring in the NHL??

Phil "The Thrill" Kessel !!!!!!!!!!!

What a player, what a bargain!!!!! He's well on his way to 40 goals or more!

By the way, the last time the Leafs lost 4 and then won 5 games??

Haha, Scary, eh?

The game tomorrow night is a huge test for this young Maple Leafs team. On a huge high right now, travel going to that higher elevation in Denver and facing a very good team in the Av's. Could be a letdown but we shall see. I Wathced the game thru the Coyotes feed tonight and their play by play guys raved about Bernier and Franson the most, besides Kessel of course. Also they mentioned Gleason a few times as a stud back there with his hitting and blocking of shots.
By the way, the last time the Leafs lost 4 and then won 5 games??

Dave King, who works for the Coyotes, was also raving about Bernier to a member of the Leafs play-by-play crew. Why this guy isn't on Team Canada totally baffles me, considering that he and Josh Harding both have better numbers (save percentage and goals against) than Carey Price and Mike Smith.

As of now, it appears to me that Canada's weakness is between the pipes. I have no faith in Luongo and he wasn't even the top goalie in Vancouver when Corey Schneider was there. Schneider wasn't even named to Team USA. Carey Price is unreliable in big games. He is also very inconsistent. He can be fantastic in a certain game (like last week in Ottawa), and then suck in his next game. He has also choked in every playoffs he's been in as a member of the habs. As for Mike Smith, he's had one good season in his entire career and he didn't impress me much tonight.

Was Josh Harding bypassed because he has MS?? Was Bernier bypassed because he didn't have enough experience at the NHL level?? Probably. But can those two be that much worse than the current trio of Team Canada goalies??? I doubt it.

I wonder if James Remier will be between the pipes tomorrow night. It wouldn't surprise me if Carlyle sticks with Bernier. He seems to have lost all confidence in Remer.

Doc,

I have said all season that Bernier should (and deserves) to be in Sochi. If Team Canada plays great defense then a Luongo/Price/Smith trio can still do well, but i would rather see Bernier there instead of Smith for sure. With that said, i would feel very comtfortable with Bernier being the starter for Team Canada as well.

Not sure who starts against the Av's.... myself, i would go with the hot backstopper.... "Big Game" would be my choice against a very strong Av's team, led by former Canadien, Patrick Roy.

And they all beat goalies that were selected to play at the Olympics:

"And they’re beating up Olympic goalies in the process. In order: Tuukka Rask (Boston/Finland), Ryan Miller (Buffalo/USA), Carey Price (Montreal/Canada), Mike Smith (Phoenix/Canada) and Semyon Varlamov (Colorado/Russia), all done in by Toronto snipers on this streak"

EB, he's currently the best Canadian goaltender on the planet in my opinion.

GAA don't mean much. It usually depends on the team that plays in front of you. Save percentage is a much more accurate stat of a goalie's personal performance.
