I heard the other day on a popular Mtl sports radio station that Brendan Prust asked his agent to try to grt him traded to Toronto in order to be closer to fiancee (Marie-Pier Morin) in Mtl.

N

november

If Prust is patient he can sign with the Leafs in the summer. My question is would the Leafs be interested? He's not the same player he use to be, he has alot of miles on the odometer.

They may only be interested this year on an expiring contract since he's a heart & soul type of player, which is a type of player most teams (minus the habs) like. But were it to happen, it would be as a favor to him (and his fiancee) and the price would have to be cheap.

The hottest team in Canada won again last night, 2-1 against the Canes. Tonight they're in Boston against the teddy bears. Go Leafs Go!

Doc,

MISTER (;)) Mike Babcock must be happy with the effort the Leafs came back with tonight after playing only their 3rd bad game of the year last night in the 'Peg. Reimer was back to playing a strong game in net and only a replay cost the good guys at least a point tonight but the good news is, the Leafs are well in the hunt for a top 5 pick next June which is the goal of a rebuild that is right on track.

Looks like Nylander and Marner will be leading their countires in the World Jr. Tourney starting on Boxing Day.... good stuff!

The Leafs once again played a very strong game last night, as resident hockey expert Igna69xxx noted. Sure they lost 1-0, but it's all good. I don't mind them losing as long as they play a strong game, and once again they did. Even though it's year 1 of the rebuild (a true rebuild!!), they're only a few players away from being contenders. Had Reimer played all season and played like he is now (as the best goaltender in the NHL according to Don Cherry and others), the Leafs would be very close to a playoff spot. Sure, they've struggled at times scoring goals. But that's the story throughout most of the NHL this season. Scoring-wise, i believe this season in the NHL is at an all-time low.

I'm glad Marner will be going to the juniors. Nylander i'm not sure. He's been playing with men over the past two seasons and i'm not sure what he has to benefit by playing in a juniors tournament. I honestly don't think it will be of any benefit to him. He'd be better staying with the Marlies or get called up by the Leafs at the 40-50 game mark.

The future is looking very bright for these young Leafs and it may not be as far as people seemed to believe at the start of the season.

I agree about Willie Nylander, and think he should stay with the Marlies and continue making the AHL look easy (which it is not), Marner is another story, so young and so good, i am glad the Leafs did the right thing and kept him off the NHL roster and sent him back to junior, it was indeed the right decision and under babcock there was no way he would have made the Leafs anyways. Heck, i bet Babs would have sent Mcdavid to the AHL to start the season had he got him in blue and white. Edmonton set the developement of some of their "kids" back 3-4 years because of foolishness. Some kids can handle it (Taylor Hall, Morgan Rielly) others cant.

Rushing young players rarely works. I still think it was a mistake for the habs to rush Alex Galchenyuk into the NHL. He should have been sent back to his junior team or at the most to the Bulldogs. Keeping him with the big team slowed his progress in my opinion and even though he's a decent player full of potential, i think he'd be even better today (and in the future) had he started his pro career at the lower levels and progress gradually.

Edmonton is proof that it's nuts to rush young players into action, especially with a team that sucks as much as the Oilers....year after year. Luke Schenn should have been sent back to his junior team when he joined the Leafs organization. Rushing him into the NHL did his career a lot of harm in my opinion.

Teams also maintain control of a young player longer when they don't rush him into the league.

Galchenyuk is only 21 and he's already on a bridge contract. By the time he's 23-24, he'll already cost the team a fortune and who knows if they'll be able to keep him, considering by then Carey Price and Max Pacioretty's contrats will be up and both are expected to get a big raise.

By the way, the Leafs called up Antoine Bibeau today. James Reimer is out day-to-day. Bibeau's numbers aren't great, though. But who knows.

Thanks for the news about Bibeau, his ceiling i believe is projected to be higher than Sparks but only time will tell. Young goalies are not always as good as when they hit their mid to late 20's, unlike forwards and defensemen, maybe this is why Reimer is finally finding his game, and then of course he battles injuries, same story for many in the NHL that look to have promising careers.

About Galchenyuk, i absolutely 100% agree with you, he was indeed rushed and would be a better NHL'er right now had he been sent back to junior, same for his buddy and #1 draft pick that year, Nail Yakupov. Personally i think most all top five draft picks should be sent back unless they have developed into a mans body. At 18 they are still boys for the most part, very few can compete with men in the NHL at that age.

You are also spot on about teams keeping these kids under team control regarding contracts, and in some cases BIG contracts. It will be fun to sit back and watch Price command 10 mil a year, Max Pax to command 8-9 mil per year all while Subban is making 9 mil per year as well as trying to sign guys around them to stay competitive. It will be just like the Penguins but worse because the penguins actually have two of the best players in the world while Mtl has Price only and even he is showing the possibilities of a injury riddled career, although i hope not because he is the only likeable hab-not there is.

Good Stuff MISTER :)D) Holliday

I wouldn't be surprised to see Subban get traded in a couple of years in order to fit all those highly-paid under the cap. Subban is a very good defenceman, no doubt. But does he deserve to be the highest-paid defenceman in the history of the NHL? Plus the fact that he's being paid in US dollars. Pacioretty may be another candidate to leave the organization in a couple of years if he continues to be injured every year. And who knows about Price?? If his right knee problems become chronic, his years in Mtl may be counted considering he's playing a position where healthy knees are a must.

And unless Galchenyuk's production improves dramatically, the organization will eventually run out of patience with him. Especially considering all the problems they had with the family this season in trying to re-sign him. And he was only an RFA with no arbitration privileges!!!

The habs had a lot of trouble to re-sign Galchenyuk because his family (mostly his father) played hard-ball with them throughout the summer and were holding out for more money and more term. They fired his agent and this agent then told the media that his family was a negative factor in negotiations, etc.

Great team effort last night by the good guys in blue and white. Kadri has had a very good season so far but severly snake bitten most of the season so far but the goals will come as will the points, 2 sweet goal last night and the Leafs first fight of the year and he stood up to bully david backes and held his own against the much bigger backes, good for Kadri to show balls of steel taking on a bigger guy. Sparks had some tremendous saves after letting in a weak goal.

The rebuild is looking good, stay competitive and play many one goal games, lose many but win some here and there and shock a few teams along the way, all the way to a nice top five draft pick in another deep draft next June. One step at a time under MISTER Babcock, MISTER Shanahan and MISTER Lou Lam :thumb: How do you like them apples MISTER Holiday? :D

The Marlies beat the Manitoba Moose 9-0 today!! Second straight shutout by Jonathan Bernier!! Leivo had a pair while Nylander and Freddie "The Goat" each had one. The Marlies have an amazing record this season under rookie coach Sheldon Keefe and if their performance this season is a sign of great things to come for the Maple Leafs in the future, i'm all for it!!! :thumb:

The Leafs, by the way, beat the St-Louis Blues 4-1 last night in St-Louis. They struggled in the first period, dominated in the second and played tight defense in the third.

Babcock has the Leafs playing very good hockey this season. I count only 3 games where they were badly outplayed. One thing, though. I can't understand why defenceman Frank Corrado hasn't played a single game yet. He can't be worse than Martin Marincin, whom i find awful. Corrado was picked off waivers from Vancouver. Maybe Babcock wasn't consulted on the move and isn't playing Corrado in order to get back at GM Lou Lamoriello, who knows. But for whatever reason, Corrado has been in Babcock's doghouse all season long.

By the way, what's wrong with Joffrey Lupul?? I don't think he's played in the past 3-4 games. What is it this time???

I forget where, (Elliote Freidman maybe) but read the reasons behind Corrado sitting and it was not because of any MISTER Babcock's doghouse and something to do with waivers or trades or something that need to happen first. Don't quote me, i am not 100% sure the reason but had nothing to do with MISTER Mike.

The Marlies......not sure what happened last weekend but they got creamed 2 out of three games but have bounced back with impressive wins the last three days in a row, gotta love three games in three days down on the farm.

Nylander is the real deal boyzzzzz, another 3 points today and flying high atop the league leaders at ONLY 19 years of age, quite freakin impressive to say the least. The way he is playing he is forcing his way to the NHL and i dont want him on the Leafs this season, not for any length of time anyways for obvious reasons. Let him fine tune his game and get some valuable playoff time withe the Marlies. Even if they give him a few games as a "reward", he might just light it up at the NHL level and then he would be there to stay and this season, that is exactly what the Leafs do not want. Get that top five draft pick and then Nylander starts and stays in the NHL next season and for the next 20 years, but not now, please.

Marner another four points last night and is already at the top of the OHL leaders after missng a few games (i think) to start the season. Travis Dermott (2nd rounder last year at #34) leads all OHL defensemen in points and in fact most all the draft picks from last year are having great seasons so far. Look out for Jeremy Bracco who left the NCAA for the OHL and is producing at a 2points per game rate already. Lots of things to look forward to MISTER Holiday in a few seaons, maybe even next season when your coach is named Babcock!

PS....good for Jonathan Bernier for finding his "Big Game" form again, lets hope it translates to the big club again soon. He is way too talented to be in the minors, just ask Mr. Lebrun :)

I just watched friday's episode of Leafs Lunch (TSN) and ironically, Frank Corrado's situation came up. Jeff O'Neil and Jamie McLennan had the same impression i had: that he must have done or said something very bad in order for Babcock benching him the entire season. They also played an audio clip of a reporter asking Lou Lamoriello about Corrado and wondering why he's spent every single game in the press box. All Lamoriello could say was that it his situation was an unfortunate circumstance. What i found funny was that Jeff O'Neil has the same impression that i have of Martin Marincin (actually, O'Neil thinks even worse of him) and asked out loud why he's even playing. Very slow, no hands, makes questionable plays, etc.

The Leafs won another one tonight in a strong performance against the visiting NJ Devils. The Leafs are slowly but surely climbing in the standings and making the playoffs this season, which many thought was impossible in year 1 of the massive rebuild, is now a possibility.

I was listening to Jean-Charles Lajoie's radio show yesterday on Radio 9. He was interviewing Leafs' P-A Parenteau and the host could hardly believe how good the Leafs were now playing under Babcock. He asked Parenteau, who is having a very good season, what Babcock had brought to the Leafs. P-A first attributed his own success to the face he had a coach who believed in him and gave him ice-time, and then explained to the host that with coach Babcock, you must give 100% of yourself in every game...word hard and never quit...or else you'd wind up in the press box in the next game if the coach felt you didn't give it your all. It's quite obvious that the players are taking this philosophy to task since they are one of the hardest working hockey teams in the league.

Coach Babcock announced after the game that Lupul and Reimer will likely be back in the lineup in their next game.

Go Leafs Go! :thumb:
