Once again you come up short...lol. Back to back to back - big f**King deal...Sox did it the day before in a game.
However it does stir memories of a real accomplishment...back to back to back to back...

4 Homers in a Row
Back-to-back-to-back-to-back homers have happened seven times in major league play.

6/8/1961 - Braves on the road against the Reds in the top of the 7th:
Eddie Mathews (off of Jim Maloney)
Hank Aaron (Maloney)
Joe Adcock (Marshall Bridges)
Frank Thomas (Bridges)

7/31/1963 - second game, Indians at home against the Angels in the bottom of the sixth :
Woodie Held (off of Paul Foytack)
Pedro Ramos (Indians pitcher) (Foytack)
Tito Francona (Foytack)
Larry Brown (Foytack)
Note: Foytack was relieved after giving up the fourth one.

5/2/1964 - Twins on the road against the Athletics in the top of the eleventh:
Tony Oliva (off of Dan Pfister)
Bob Allison (Pfister)
Jimmie Hall (Pfister)
Harmon Killebrew (Vern Handrahan)

9/18/2006 - Dodgers at home against the Padres in the bottom of the ninth:
Jeff Kent (off of Jon Adkins)
J.D. Drew (Adkins)
Russell Martin (Trevor Hoffman)
Marlon Anderson (Hoffman)

4/22/2007 - Red Sox at home against the Yankees in the bottom of the third:
Manny Ramirez (off of Chase Wright)
J.D. Drew (Wright)
Mike Lowell (Wright)
Jason Varitek (Wright)
Note: It was Drew's second time, and Red Sox manager Terry Francona is the son of Tito Francona who was part of the Indian's quartet in 1963.

8/14/2008 - White Sox at home against the Royals in the bottom of the sixth:
Jim Thome (off of Joel Peralta)
Paul Konerko (Peralta)
Alexei Ramirez (Peralta)
Juan Uribe (Robinson Tejeda)

8/11/2010 - Diamondbacks on the road against the Brewers in the top of the fourth:
Adam LaRoche (off of Dave Bush)
Miguel Montero (Bush)
Mark Reynolds (Bush)
Stephen Drew (Bush)
Note: Stephen Drew is the the brother of J.D. Drew, who has been part of four in a row twice. They are the only brothers to have participated in such a string of homers.

Has happened 7 times in MLB history and the only place the Yankees are on this list is as a recipient.

chase_wright_sad.jpg

I think that kid Wright is the Cashman poolboy now...lol.

BTW, when the Sox did it it was the first time an MLB manager was stupid enough to leave the pitcher in for all 4 jacks...congrats Joe Torre.

Have fun,

Jman

AJ Burnett pulls THE 1 good game out of his ass that he will pitch ALL YEAR and loses to the Royals....

Sox still hanging around.:cool::p

Healthy starting rotation in place. Pedroia and Varitek due back soon...
All Tito needs to do is put Dice K in the bullpen and we have a shot...

Have fun,

Jman

PS Hello SK...good to see you.

Agreed, AJ pitched his heart out today, good to see the guy hasnt quit on a not so good year for him, that shows not only Heart but Character as well.

I wouldnt call Beckett Dice K and Lackey exactly lights out these days, healthy maybe but there are some concerns there if your a sox fan, and the bullpen has been sketchy lately as well, even Bard got hit this week, how about Bard for Joba straight up Jman? lol... cmon :)

Dice K sucks. Becket will find his stuff - he has looked good except an inning here and there - unfortunately they were big innings. Lackey pitched his ass off last week only giving up 2 earned if I remember...the bullpen couldn't hold a six run lead. Bard has hit a little wall, but he will be ok.

And no way - you can keep Joba the bug man...he just sucks...lol
Yankees are suspect after CC and Hughes - but even he is showing signs of hitting the wall.

Thats why we play 162!!! Should be fun.

Have fun,

Jman

Ryan Kalish: Kalish's grand slam aids Red Sox victory

Hey Rumples,

In case you missed it (lol, I'm sure you didn't)...

Ryan Kalish - OF - BOS - Aug. 17 - 10:07 pm et
Ryan Kalish hit a grand slam off Jered Weaver in the fourth inning Tuesday night to propel the Red Sox to a 6-0 victory over the Angels.
Boston held a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Kalish took a 1-1 Weaver offering deep, giving Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz all the offense he'd need. Kalish is hitting .300/.333/.440 in 50 at-bats. He's owned in only 0.9% of ESPN.com standard leagues, a number that should be higher based on his speed and expected playing time with Jacoby Ellsbury (ribs) out.

Oh yeah...Cy Buchholz wins #14 with a shutout. He has been lights out his last 5 starts.

Have fun,

Jman

Where I belong.
Dice K sucks.
Sorry, pal. A 3.46 ERA since the ASB does not suck. He's certainly erratic and he certainly raises blood pressure, but he's clearly having a decent season. Know how many Yankees have a better ERA than Dice-K since the break? Sabathia.

In other notes, it looks like Pettitte isn't getting better. He's now been shut down for another week before he starts throwing again.

And one more thing, you can't spell ClaY without CY.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Now that's funny. Uh, why would we want a train wreck?

Well Jman, Dice-K (2-1, 3.46) is doing better than Lackey (1-2, 3.89) since the All-Star break, and it's arguable that he has been as good or possibly a hair better than Beckett (2-1, 5.34). As for Buchholz (4-1, 2.18)...wheeeeew...definitely in the run for the CY.

If Youk and Pedroia come back to play as they have previously, then the rest of the season could be very interesting. It sure would be nice to look more like the "Red Sox" instead of the minor league "Paw Sox" (Pawtucket, Rhode Island...for those who didn't know).

Cheers,

Merlot

Congrats to Jonathan Papelbon on his 30th save of the season. He is the first closer EVER to save 30 games or more in his first 5 seasons.

First EVER!

jonathan_papelbon2.jpg

Hello rumples and Merlot,
Well boys the numbers bear out that Dice K has turned it up a notch and is delivering the 2nd half...but he still drives me crazy and frankly for what we paid for him...he should be a whole lot better and much more consistent. Just my opinion as a loyal member of the Nation...;)

Now if you wanna talk about a key acquisition by Theo...Adrian Beltre is the man! What a find...

Sox have 6 left against the Rays...should be fun.

Have fun,

Jman

PS Buchholz, Lester, Beckett and Lackey in a playoff rotation ... I'll take that anyday, anywhere.

GO SOX!

I guess after another sub par performance tonight (5 ER in 7 innings) you can add the inconsistent Lackey to that list of train wrecks, lol.

One last thing, Kerry Wood since becoming a Yankee , in 7 games has a era of 1.08 and seems to have regained his form , thanks to that good ole j-rump jinx! btw boys, bid Tex was 3-4 with his 27th homer and rbi's # 87 and 88, heres to keeping the j-rump jinx alive i tell ya! :)

Not so fast

Hate to burst that red sox bubble your in but papelbon had ZERO saves his first year, as you see, papelbon wasnt the full time closer until his second season in the show, just like Mo wasnt the full time closer until his 3rd season for the Empire, but hey, you can think what you like, but the stats dont lie :)

In his first season, Mo was a starter/relief as needed, but not closer, in his second season he was the set up man for Wettland. Third season he took over as closer and has never looked back, papelbon was a spot starter/relief his first season and his 2nd season took over as closer.

So, in his first 5 seasons as the full time closer, Mo had 210 saves, as of now, papelbon has 181 in his first 5 full seasons as a closer, with maybe another 10-15 this season if he is lucky. and yes Mo had 30 or more in each of those five seasons.

Anyway you slice it, "THE SANDMAN" is the #1 closer of all time and still the creme of the crop today.

Hmmm,

Awwwwww...you have an autographed photo of Mo's butt. How nice for you.

Technically, Papelbon has 181 saves in his first six seasons as an MLB pitcher, Rivera has 165 in his first six years. You start counting when the pitcher becomes a closer, not conveniently with the first big number. But Mo was definitely better by his average as a full time closer. No one said he wasn't the best ever you silly little pinstripe happy

Clemens Indicted.

Hello all,

Here we go...................

Baseball great Clemens indicted in steroid case

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5ievDiRj0aLwyo9hujQPCHowoeBawD9HMU4N80

...The six-count indictment alleges that Clemens obstructed a congressional inquiry with 15 different statements made under oath, including denials that he had ever used steroids or human growth hormone.

Former Rep. Tom Davis of Virginia, the top Republican on the House panel at the time of Clemens' testimony, called it "a self-inflicted wound."...

CBuchholz, Lester, Beckett and Lackey in a playoff rotation ... I'll take that anyday, anywhere.

Buchholz is good, Lester is very good (except for last night where he stunk the joint), Becket is terrible (one of the worse starters in the majors if you ask me) and Lackey is average at best. I'll take the Jays & Rays' rotation in the playoffs anytime before the Red Sox' & the Yankees.

Honestly, i can't see a better rotation in the AL than Toronto's four starters: Romero, Markum, Morrow & Cecil.
