Ranting 101: Lessons in Anger, Bitterness, and Denial.

Hello all,

Post #1469 Waaaaa...the Yankees lost and I'm very bitter so I'll compensate by cutting up the Sox to make up for my pitiful misery.

Post #1470...Waaaaa... Red Sox fans are picking on me. I'm so bitter and angry I think I'll make up a lot of crap no one said to get back at them.

Post#1474...Waaaaa, I'm so frustrated, ahhhh, making personal insults will prove I'm the mature man in this thread.

Post #1476...I'm not cranky...I'm not cranky...I' not cranky...Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, I'm soooooo CRANKY!

Post #1477...Waaaaa, I keep whining, pissing, name-calling, making up crap and ranting on and on...but I'm the one with "class".

Post #1478...babbling is always the best way to make points.

Post #1482...I'm such a he-man championship lover I need to call everyone else gay to confirm it.

Post # 1484..."i just twisted your words"...like I always do to make a point. Whoa, is that eight straight pissing posts. Doesn't make me cranky. NAH!!! Help...MOOOMMMMMYYYY!

Great performance. When does it get to Broadway???

i still feel Texas will take it, afterall they beat the Best to advance to the WS so bring the trophy home Vladdy, Josh, and the rest of the Rangers! (bout time someone in Dallas wins a championship)

So Dallas moved to Arlington where the Rangers actually play...lol.

Bravo,

Merlot

Red Sox' John Farrell about to be named new Blue Jays manager

The Red Sox are losing pitching coach John Farrell to the Toronto Blue Jays in a well-deserved promotion, according to Boston's owner.

Red Sox bench coach DeMarlo Hale and former Indians catcher and current coach Sandy Alomar Jr. were also reportedly in the running for the Blue Jays' manager vacancy.

But Farrell's experience apparently won out.

"The Jays are getting a great baseball man and a great person,'' John Henry wrote in an e-mail to the Boston Globe of Farrell. "We were able to keep John as a part of our organization longer than a couple of other teams would have wanted, but it really is time for John to step up to the next level."

Farrell, 48, pitched for the Indians, Angels and Tigers from 1987-96. He worked in player development with the Indians from 2001-05 before becoming the Red Sox pitching coach. Farrell and manager Terry Francona were Indians teammates.

"He will be an effective, excellent manager," Henry said of Farrell. "I expect him to manage in MLB for as long as he wants to. He's going to an excellent young team with a strong and smart hierarchy. The Blue Jays are going to be a force in the AL East for some time to come. I am grateful for the years John Farrell gave to the Red Sox. He will be missed.''

The Blue Jays finished fourth in the AL East this past season with an 85-77 mark.

Farrell replaces Cito Gaston, who retired after his second managerial stint with the Blue Jays.

Gaston won two World Series titles with the Blue Jays, in 1992 and 1993, during a managerial run that ended in 1997. He returned to the club as a hitting coach from 2000-01 and took over as manager again in June 2008.

Where I belong.
Two six games Championship Series, but what a contrast. The Giants and Phillies, well matched, played a close series, with four of the games decided by two runs or less.

But over in the ALCS, the hapless NY Yankees were manhandled, mugged and embarrassed by the Texas Rangers in a series that would have been a four game sweep had it not been for the brutal mismanagement of the Ranger bullpen in game one by Ron Washington. The Rangers outhit, out pitched, out fielded, out ran, and out managed the decaying Yankees.

Heroes - Elvis Andrus, Colby Lewis, Benji Molina, and Josh Hamilton.
Goats - Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, AJ Burnett, Phil Hughes, Joe Girardi, the entire bullpen and a cast of thousands.

Sometimes it's better not to get into the playoffs than to be embarrassed in them.

What a very true statement. Had the Red Sox "AAA" team made it to the dance, I believe they would have put up a more respectable fight. My logic for that assumption...simple...look at the last 6 games they played vs. the Yankees during the regular season..."Nuff said.

I think you nailed the goats...but you missed Swisher who deserves special mention. His lack of contribution in the playoffs didn't help his team just as his lack of contribution in the All Star game didn't help the AL - he just sucks.. Good news is the Rangers are on fire on the road in the playoffs so far.

As a PS... I thought it was kinda cool that BOTH championship series ended with the each pinstriped teams cleanup hitter being called out on strikes LOOKING...if I remember correctly both were on full counts also. Just a curious baseball thing for those of us who love the game...

Farrell will make an excellent manager. This is great news for the Jays and bad news for the Red Sox. It was common knowledge that Farrell stuck around in Boston to win another ring as he could have gone a long time ago. He will improve the Jays and their young pitchers just as he did in Boston. I can only say I hope Theo has a good replacement lined up.

Hmmm... 2011 could be interesting in the AL East...
1. Boston
2. Toronto
3. New York
4. Tampa Bay
5. Baltimore

Off season will prove very interesting.

Have fun,

Hello Merlot,

WOW! What a tremendous summary. I'm afraid this is only the "cliffs notes" version though...you could have gone on for pages and pages....

Isn't it great to see a pinstripeLESS World Series?! Frankly, I don't care who wins...although as I have stated earlier I like the Cinderella story with the Rangers and it would be cool to see them win on the first trip in...besides I think they have way too many tools for the Giants to overcome. What will be interesting to see is how they will handle the NL park situation with Vlad now ... As their OF is one of the best in baseball. I would believe they have to put him in one of the corner OF spots, with Cruz in the other corner and keep his bat in the line up.

Heres to a great WS...Let's Go Rangers!

Have fun,

Jman

Kinda reminds me of the 2010 red sox, lol

The World Series , Texas vs. San Francisco.... I dont really care who wins, but i think it is the Rangers series to lose, they beat the better competition by going thru 2 powerhouses of the fierce AL East, while SF beat a tough Phils team, and a solid Atlanta squad. The pitching is pretty even but the nod goes to the Rangers in the hitting department... Rangers in 5 or 6, but if SF wins, good for them also.

Hello rumples,

I had another thought on this this morning as I return to work to once again see that all of those who were dressed in their annual early Halloween costumes (aka Yankees shirts and hats that are worn for 2 weeks in October as true bandwagon fans do) to be dressed once again in normal garb proclaiming that it is "football" season...LOL...I digress...Anyway, my thought...

The Yankees never had a prayer. The hoped to ride the Mystique Tradition Train into the World Series. As usual the Twins bought in to the hype perpetuated by the media and folded like a circus tent. Then a funny thing happened, the Yankees ran into a Texas team who didn't give a shit about mystique and tradition (much like the '04 Red Sox), because they are too busy creating their own. The wheels fell off the Mystique Tradition Train one at a time and the best paid bunch of losers in all of sports went home early for the 10th time in 11 years. I think that train is gonna be parked in the station for a few years to come...here's hoping!

Hats off to the Nolan Ryan and the Texas Rangers.
Let's Go Rangers!

PS Speaking of Mystique and Tradition...EB must be dusting off his football stuff too...;)

PPS The Boston Red Sox are still THE ONLY team to win 2 WS Championships in the new century.

Everything i've heard of Farrell is very positive. Knowing Toronto GM Alex Anthoupoulos, he must have interviewed Farrell two or three times & hold several meetings with his assistants before he decided to hire him. I hope he keeps pitching coach Bruce Walton around. Walton did amazing work with the pitchers this past season & they all loved being mentored by him. Even though it might be a stretch, i wouldn't mind well-liked Brian Butterfield being kept as a bench coach, and possibly hitting coach Dwayne Murphy.

As for the Yankees, they have a lot of big decisions to make. Is it time to start rebuilding (okay, they don't believe in that stuff) and part with veterans Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera & Jorge Possada? I'm certain they'll go after Cliff Lee & Carl Crawford during the off-season. Can they get rid of AJ Burnett? I doubt it. Will Phil Hugues continue to improve? What about Joba? Have he seen his best days? An irony in this whole thing is that the only reason the Yankees didn't wind up with Roy Halladay is because they refused to include Joba Chamberlain in the potential deal with the Jays. With Halladay leading the staff (with CC), i wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees would be the team facing the Giants in a day or so.

True enough, though there's a big difference between managing and coaching. Most pitching coaches who became managers failed, Bud Black the obvious exception. I wish Farrell well in his new job.

I'm afraid there's no getting rid of Posada, Rodriguez and Burnett, due to their awful contracts. I've spoken to more than one Yankee fan who think it's time for Jeter to go.

I also read a story in the Dallas Morning News today that suggests the ALCS will make it hard for the Yankees to sign Cliff Lee. The Yankees are old and fading; the Rangers have a bright future. What Lee saw during the ALCS was the brutal defense on the left side of the Yankee infield as the Rangers peppered the hole between the immobile Jeter and Rodriguez. Jeter is the past; Andrus is the future. Will Lee, a ground ball left-handed pitcher, want to pitch for a team with a porous left side?

Youkilis / Beltre + Lowry could be a bright future for Mr. Lee also...to do so the Sox would have to jettison another pitcher for ???...My feelings would not be hurt if Theo dealt Dice K or Beckett...

First let me Congratulate the Jays on replacing Cito, the Jays need new blood and JF should be a capable guy to handle the job.

On the Yankees, Jorge will be kept around for his bat as a part time DH and should catch 50-75 games meanwhile letting Cervelli develope further.Arod will be a 40hr 140 Rbi man again if healthy and showed this season even when not playing a full season, is still capable of nice numbers. Mo just came off another typical "MO" season Doc, so not quite sure i understand why you would include him as one you would look to move out of the Bronx. Hughes won 18 games as a 24 yr old and in his first full season as a starter, he needs a little more seasoning and with that could be one of baseballs dominant pitchers, he tailed off at the end of the season, so i think he was tired and worn down, remember, this was the most the Kid has ever pitched in his life, its a long season and he should only get stronger and stronger.

Joba is still a work in progress, and dont remind me about the Halladay/Joba deal, at the time i agreed with not trading him, but as we look back, ouch!... oh well, past is past, cant change it so we move on, which is what Cashman and the Steinbrenners will do, and that most likely means Lee and Crawford. Lee would fit in perfect in Pinstripes, Crawford, well, i was not a huge fan of getting him, but the more i look at it, if we were to keep Gardner in left, add Crawford in center, and bat them 1st and 9th , WOW, thats a whole lot of speed baby!.. Gardner is ready to breakout, if only he could learn to bunt a little better, he would be a lock to steal 50 bases and score 100 runs every year. (came close this yr)

Now this brings us to Jeter..... he has slowed down with age, thats expected, but you dont just throw your captain of the last 14 years away when he still has the ability to help you win. Is he gonna get $18mil a yr again? i sure hope not, but he is a natural born leader and for everything he has done for this organization and still has alot to offer, you sign him for a 1-2 yr deal worth 10-12mil per and let him retire a Yankee. But it wouldnt surprise me if he has a very good year next season and bounces back from his worst ever. Tough Decisions for sure but a heck of alot better than a majority of teams need to make to be better than this past season.

Mo looked VERY hittable and was...

Who is the Yankees CF now...oh yeah Granderson...what are you gonna do with him in your lets just sign everyone scenario??? Now if you want to dump that worthless piece of crap Swisher, move Gardner to RF and put Crawford in left...that makes a little sense...

And Holy Crap...we agree - the only place for Jeter is NY...except I think Jeter is only worth maybe $4-6M a year to be a p/t player and honorary captain...you are dreaming with that bounce back talk at his age...and you can't pay him for what he WAS.

And ARod - well the key "wiggle out" to your statement was health...and...because of the wear and tear the Roids have had on him...he will not stay healthy.

Your boys in blue have some serious rebuilding to do. Best thing they got going for them is the right side of the infield.

Have fun,

Jman

PS Cervelli has ZERO power and is at best a .260 hitter. He may have had his career year in 2010.

Why isn't this guy on your ignore list? Cervelli, ha! I hope they give this minor leaguer 400 useless at bats.

I understand that the Yankees have withdrawn from the American League and hope to compete in a 35 and older league in New Jersey.

BTW, Crawford will not play center field for the Yankees or anyone else. Stolen base guys don't belong in CF; it's too hard on the legs to play center field and steal bases, but don't confuse ignora with the facts.
