BOYZ!

From calm and respectful....to twisting, and desperate. Why the change bud!!! ;)

Why did I watch the game? Spending a minute reading your silly twists says it all. Yeah it sucks for you LOSING to the Bruins, but 10 times so with the winning goal by a totally unknown kid cut off from the net by 3 Canadiens players and the goalie, still scoring the overtime winner after being just called up the day before. Now that SUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Describes last night perfectly.

ie...WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

It's hilarious that you would use the idiotic excuse that a professional NHL player can't avoid a post a once in a while off the street guy can...and you think you fooled anyone.

Deal with it without the bonfire car-b-cue.

You mean like the previous frequent Montreal vandalism, bonfires, burning cars, attacks on Bruins fans...and the booing of the U.S. national anthem were made up by the media??? How could anyone be stupid enough to think these happen in Montreal.

Change Montreal to Boston and the above is a perfect fit for the agenda you've shown.

Cheers, :thumb:

Sorry to ruffle your feathers !! Whining about a loss is pretty pathetic.

Your points are well taken and are in the trash as of this moment.

Nothing makes any sense, coming from a desperate hockey fan who realizes that his team is playing a far better hockey club and you thought
they would be a pushover. HA

You mentioned that dirty play is using the stick,elbow....and so on and that is why I mention Chara vs Gallagher. Chara is a coward in my books.

You are poor loser and as Jack Nicholson said in 'A few good men', "You can not handle the truth".

Enjoy the game tomorrow and PLEASE don't come whining over and over, if your team losses.

Cheers,

Ballsamic

Boston played extremely well tonight. I thought the first 5 to 10 minutes, Montreal were in control and then Boston started to take control of the game.

The two penalties, by Plekanec, gave Boston the momentum. Montreal, in my opinion played badly, even with the two penalties.

Passes weren't crisp and even when they were, the Canadiens weren't able to handle them. Bad game overall.

Kudos to Boston, they deceived the win.

I like Thornton and I did find it funny when he sprayed P.K. with the water bottle. It was a little dangerous and more than likely be fined.

Monday night will be, do or die. I think they will play a better game than tonight.

Briere a healthy scratch and for good reason. What a useless signing. Thomas Vanek, I don't know?><???

I appreciate your unbiased assessment of the game, Balls. I also found the Thornton water bottle incident hilarious, especially seeing him laughing about it on the bench. Lol.

Hoping the Bruins can end the series on Monday.

I also found the Thornton/Subban incident to be funny, but a bigger issue was made of it on TSN's "The Reporters" this morning & i began to realize that i was somewhat wrong in finding it funny. The spraying of Subban happened during play & you sometimes wonder if Thornton would have sprayed him at all had Subban been white. To some people's eyes, it was no different than throwing a banana at him.

Although i understand as much as anyone how Subban can be polarizing, you do give people who claim the hate thrown towards Subban as a racial issue more ammunition, especially considering the recent incident where thousands of racial slurs from the Boston area were directed Subban's way on Twitter & other social media.

But more importantly, Subban was sprayed during play & the blatant attempt to distract him (why else would Thornton have done this other than to distract him?) could have have to an injury. The panel on the show this morning were incensed that a respected veteran like Thornton would have stooped that low & called him extremely stupid. Heck, they must have forgot that this is the same idiot who cowardly assaulted his buddy Bruce Orpik into unconsciousness & got suspended 15 games for this assault during the regular season. The panel all agreed that although he should be suspended, Thornton will likely be fined since this is the playoffs. It's no different than any player sitting on a bench interfering with an opponent who is skating by....much different than the recent hillarious Jeff Carter/Corey Perry incident.

Hope Boston pulls it off. I have $1000 riding on this series & if Boston does win, you know where i'm heading! ;)

You guys have totally missed the point on the spraying incident which is the impact on Subban's play. Subban said the water hit his visor and he could not really see anything for 1:00-1:30. Therefore he was rendered an ineffective player for that time. There should have been a penalty on Thornton for interference or unsportsmanlike conduct.

This reminds me of a football incident many years ago when an assistant coach for the Morgan state football team came off the sideline and tackled a UConn football player who was streaking up the sideline for a touchdown. The play resulted in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty as well as the awarding of a touchdown to UConn. The play occurred with UConn winning by a score of 42-0. The assistant coach apologized and stated that he was frustrated and simply overreacted to a defensive breakdown by his team, but he was fired about a week later.

I agree. But the problem is, the referees missed it. They can't call a penalty on a play they all missed. But the league is looking into it & will very likely give Thornton a considerable fine. Will he get a game suspension? I doubt it, but you never know.

I'm surprised at Thorntons behavior

I like him, and don't like Subban

But this is IMHO a serious safety issue

What if he would have crashed and been injured ?

This reminds me if the JR Smith shoelace incident

This incident was... 100% bruins... And the officials non-reaction was... 100% NHL...

If Subban want to play in NHL and against the Bruins, he has to deal with it.

As long as officials will protect assholes in NHL, there will be assholes... And all the others NHL assholes, (and there is a lot) now know that they can spray water on visor opponents without any officials reaction (legal precedent).

Anyway, bruins deserved their wins. Match 4 weird goal was the turning point of the serie and Canadiens don't show enough character to deal with this twist of fate. And when you don't have enough character, as talented as you can be, you don't win any competition.

Yes there is a lot of vice in this bruins' team, yes what happened against Subban during this serie was shameful, but let say the true, these bruins have champions character and didn't steal their last night victory and last year Finale..

Once again, i don't blame the officials for not calling a penalty since they didn't see the infraction at the time it happened. I just watched it again & it happened so fast that you have to watch it in slow-motion in order to see what happened. Pierre McGuire was standing right next to Thornton when it happened & must have seen it. Since i don't get the NBC Sports feed, i wasn't able to hear his reaction after the incident.

Thornton is the type of player any team would want on its fourth line. He's usually a character-type of guy. But this season, i don't know what's been going through his head considering some of the stunts he's pulled. It's quite possible that he's suffering from traumatic brain encephalopathy, which is what many football players, boxers & hockey players suffer from but until recently could only be detected during an autopsy. The late Wade Belak, Derek Boogaard & Bob Probert all suffered from it. Former MLB player Ryan Freel, who was hit on the head a couple of times during his career & suffered concussions, committed suicide following long bouts of depression & his autopsy showed that he was suffering from the same brain disease. Since Thornton has spent his career fighting the other team's tough guys, he has suffered quite a high number of blows to the head during his career & likely many non-diagnosed concussions.

I don't like Subban either, only because i dislike the habs. But i give credit where credit is due & Subban is one hell of a hockey player and as of now he'd be a candidate for the Conn Smyth trophy (given to the playoffs most valuable player) should the habs continue into these playoffs. I know 29 other teams who would want PK Subban on their team, and i'm certain that he also knows this and we'll be asking for at least $10 million a season during his upcoming negotiations with the team. And considering how high taxes are in the province of Quebec, i wouldn't be surprised if he gets it in order to compensate for the loss of revenues due to high taxation in the market he plays in.

And although i don't like him, the player, he seems like a terrific young person off the ice. He did some work for Sportsnet at the beginning of last season when he was holding out, and he was very likeable & interesting. I'd even say that it was hard not to like him.

I'll say it again: i chuckled when i first saw the Thornton incident, but now realize that it was total bush-league. I'm cheering for the Bruins in this series (the Bruins were actually the team i cheered for back in the 70's) and i'll call a spade a spade. Thornton will get fined, but likely won't be suspended since it's the playoffs.

I still don't know what Thornton was thinking, but unfortunately for him, it made him look like the school yard bully picking on the lone black kid in the school yard.

Subban is a stud and he can name his price. He has a lot of unique skills but the most obvious one is his big slap shot, making him a lethal weapon on the power play. He also plays with a certain chippiness you like to see in your defensemen, yet I do not see too many guys challenging him to fights. I think they are scared of him. I saw Habs play the Flyers in Montreal early this season and Simmonds was challenging all the little guys like Gallagher and Gionta to fights, but he did not go near Subban, because he knows Subban would kick his ass.

Thornton got off with a very small fine.

Suspending him for game 6 would have been better for the NHL, it might also have assisted in creating a game 7.

I agree that the amount of the fine is a joke, but it's the maximum amount that the league could fine him. The league needs to take a look at those maximum amounts it can find a player the next time it negotiates the new contract. A couple of thousands bucks to a millionaire is a joke.

I've seen Subban fight & he's definitely not a good fighter. When he does fight, it's usually against smaller opponents who rarely fight. It's definitely not a good idea for him to get involved in a fight with someone his own size since he'll likely get his ass kicked. Here's his fight against little Brad Marchand (whom i'd take on my team anytime!) of the Bruins:

Brad Marchand vs. PK Subban

Here he is against someone his own size, Zach Bogosian of the Atlanta Thrashes, who isn't even a fighter:

Zach Bogosian vs. PK Subban

p.s. I agree. He does have a tremendous slap shot. But Subban's main contribution to the team is on the powerplay. He's not that good defensively & has a tendency to give away the puck.

Subban looks like he was toying with Marchand strength wise, but he threw about 3 roundhouse rights that hit nothing but air. He did land some other punches on Marchand and more than held his own. Marchand took more punches than he landed and while he counterpunched okay, he was not the aggressor and I doubt he looks to fight Subban again any time soon. What if one of those roundhouse rights connected, or even grazed Marchand?

The Bogosian fight happened like 4 years ago when Subban was trying to make a name for himself so I discount it but basically it was not much of a fight.

Subban is taller than Marchand and outweighs him by 80 lbs. I give the smaller Marchand full marks for going nose-to-nose with Subban on that one. But like i was saying, Subban doesn't fight often & when he does it's usually against smaller opponents who rarely fight. If Wayne Gretzky were still playing, Subban would gladly fight him. Were Mark Messier playing, Subban would either run away or fall to the ice & turtle.

Here he is against Pittsburgh's Mark Letestu, who's actually slightly shorter than Subban. Letestu throws him down like a rag doll & Subban is lucky Letestu took pity on him & didn't hit him once he was down:

Mark Letestu vs. PK Subban

Here he is against an older & slightly smaller Brendan Morrow, who also doesn't fight very often:

Brendan Morrow vs. PK Subban

Here he is against Joffrey Lupul, who's also slightly smaller & rarely fights:

Joffrey Lupul vs. PK Subban

BOYZ,

Nailed yourself perfectly. :thumb:

...you sometimes wonder if Thornton would have sprayed him at all had Subban been white. To some people's eyes, it was no different than throwing a banana at him.

You're right about that. The one's looking for any excuse to use to pull the race card out. So this has never happened to a White player? Because it's Subban it has to be because he's Black, not because he's a pain in the but and top rival? Really, what is anyone allowed to do where the race card won't come out? Can we give him a hard check, steal the puck, block a shot, is the goalie allowed to stop him from scoring or will Tuukka be called a racist for stopping PK's shot??? Puuuuuleeeeeaaasseee Doc, it was water on the mask and jersey. It was a stupid kid's prank and an unsportsmanlike infraction that got addressed.

The panel all agreed that although he should be suspended,)

I'm shocked. An all-Canadian panel thought Thronton should be suspended. I never dreamed that would happen.

He did land some other punches on Marchand and more than held his own. Marchand took more punches than he landed and while he counterpunched okay,...

PK totally embarrassed himself with the first attempted throw by falling on his own face. Right after he got back up he hit Marchand one shot to the head then either missed badly or went for body shots, when he wasn't trying to pull Marchand off his feet or the jersey over his head. Marchand landed 5 clear shots to the head, 2 were on the chin or mouth and one in the face.

...yet I do not see too many guys challenging him to fights.[

Because Doc is right about him. He declines fights or runs from strong challengers, taking on only guys he thinks he has a clear advantage against...and still got nailed by Marchand.

Main Event:

The Bruins played a strong steady game unlike the first 3 where they always found themselves fighting from behind to catch up. The Canadiens needed a 6 on 4 late in the game to keep it from looking like a rout, and yet the Bruins never really looked like they were trouble. Game 6 should be a rough and tumble burner with Montreal in desperation mode, and we know the fans at the Bell Centre will be going bonkers for the slightest infraction they see...no doubt trying to add a few made up ones too.

Cheers,

Merlot

When I see a quite quiet guy like you Merlot, dirtying Subban and Montreal, posts after posts without any self-criticism about bruins and fans acts, I understand how some crazy fans can write what they have written on social media. It's just a sport, are we supposed to only see the things on our side and only dirtying the other side just cause we support our team ? Everybody here had a balanced analyse at one moment about this serie except you. Which descredits most of the things you say.

77777,

Where is your honor in reversing the facts, and exploiting the race card? The post below is the first written by anyone when the series started. Page 51, post 752. Regarding the Bruins and Montreal, it's only about the great rivalry. No put downs, no garbage, no anything negative. You brought racism into it, and others started immediately with the dirty Bruins crap attacking the Bruins individually.

While I've said, like every else, that PK plays dirty tricks, I've commended Subban on his talent, and I gave very high praise to how he handled the racist tweets episode...something that was a major failure on your part. I disagreed with my fan brother SK publicly on this board that Subban made a dirty move dodging a shot coming straight at him in game 3, and I just said Thornton played a dirty unsportsmanlike cheap shot on Subban for which he justly was fined. I admitted on page 53, post 784: "As much as I hate PK, we know when he's not acting stupid that he's a very good player real Bruins fans would take if available."

So any idea that I've been nothing but a partisan fan is a lie. Look in the mirror for someone discrediting himself with revisions of the truth, and the cheapness of his tactics in exploiting racism for his own purposes.

You're behaving like a fanboy desperate to find solace over a losing team by taking cheap shots at an opposing fan. If it's just a sport why did you need to play the race card to smear Boston fans? My big offense is not criticizing my team. Oh puuuuuuuuuuuuuullllllleeeeeeeeeassseeeeeeeee....that has never happened before on this board, especially by Canadiens and Leafs fans, HUH!

Hockey Fans,

Here we go again:

http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2...e-canadiens/hctnS0NEamIMcHacUKQ4FI/story.html

So much of that would have helped the Red Wings, especially against the far more complete Bruins, who Saturday kicked their old Original Six pals to the curb with a thorough, grinding 4-2 win at the Garden that sent the Wings home for the summer and the Bruins on to another date with destiny known as the Montreal Canadiens.

Actually, the specific dates are yet to be announced. All we know at this hour is that the Round 2, best-of-seven series will begin here with two games in the Hub of Hockey. The NHL is not expected to release the schedule until the other six first-round series wrap up. The Habs and Bruins were first to the finish line in Round 1, leaving both clubs with a sizable chunk of this week to rest, ruminate, and otherwise prep the menu for what is always a sumptuous meal between the two storied franchises.
Related

“Good rivalry,” summed up Bruins fourth-liner Shawn Thornton, a vital member of the pack of 12 forwards that contributed to the systematic dismantling of the Red Wings. “My initial feeling is, embrace it . . . both teams get into it, so I’m going to enjoy it.”

Yes, this one seemed inevitable along the playoff route, as has already happened 6 other times in this brief millennium alone. So it must be this time. Scrappy fast Montreal versus steady tough Boston. It should be a hum-dinger. But what has happened to our "real hockey fans"? One...two...three. I'm not the mod! I swear it.

GOBRUINSGO!!!

Merlot

I suggest we move on.
