Scotty Gomez might be a Shark very soon. Sources tell me that he'll sign a 1-year contract for about $700 000. I also heard he would be wearing #23.

Good luck to one of the league's good guys! :thumb:

Great opening ceremonies @Bell Center tonight.....

2-0 Leafs after 2 periods.........it would be 6-0 if it weren't for Carey Price's heroics.

Boo-birds beginning to show their presence once the 2nd period ended.......

Looks like it'll be a long season once again for the fans of the blue, blanc, rouge....

Best players for the Habs so far: Carey Price & Colby Armstrong.

Best player for the Leafs: Nazem Kadri.

p.s. Glenn Healey of HNIC just said that the Habs' offer to P.K. Subban is embarassing & he doesn't blame him for holding out.

First game of the year, Randy Carlyle 1, habs "0"........ Carlyle is a tremendous coach who mixed and matched lines all night long and got the most out of his team and will continue to, "IF" they buy into his system every damn night like "pro's" should. Kadri, Komaserek (yes i said it) Kessel, Bozak, Dion, Scrivens and especially KOSTKA are your stars of the game with many supporting cast to follow close behind, GREAT TEAM effort boys :thumb: Next up, the home opener in two days versus the Sabres! See you there!

Why Montreal Must Sign PK Subban Now

Excellent 8 page article on why Montreal must sign PK Subban now:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...montreal-canadiens-need-to-sign-pk-subban-now

One of the 6 reasons offered for signing Subban is that not signing him means more ice time for Tomas Kaberle. The BR then offers this brutal assessment of Kaberle:

"He is a butter-soft player who cannot handle contact. He lacks aggressiveness in every area, and while he has some skills with the puck on his stick, he seems to lack the ability and motivation to help his team win."

Harsh!

Scott Gomez is expected to sign a one-year deal with the San Jose Sharks later today. Once signed, he will not be in the lineup in their game against Edmonton.

In other news, Habs coach Mike Therrien has already lost patience with a player: Lars Eller. He decided to bench Eller for tonight's game for his lack of intensity. He added that the time to $&$& around was over. No other explanation was given, nor necessary.

Could Lars Eller & P.K. Subban be packaged to a team in order to get a top-notch defenceman and scoring forward?

Would the financially-strapped Predators be tempted into shipping out Shea Webber to the Habs for those two players? As an incentive, how about Mtl offering them to swap first-round picks in the transaction?

Another Sad Day for the NHL

Another sad day for the NHL with the retirement of front-of-net specialist Tomas Holmstrom.

Like so many other Red Wings Homer was the absolute best at what he did.

The Great One Finally Coming To Toronto???

Would of loved to have him when he was 25 instead, but the GREAT 1 is always welcome on my team, that also means more PAULINA sightings around the city! :thumb:

With the lockout-shortened NHL season underway, TSN Hockey Insiders Bob McKenzie, Darren Dreger and Pierre LeBrun gathered for the latest installment of Insider Trading. Among the topics discussed were the rumours of Wayne Gretzky becoming the next president of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Mike Gillis' comments on trading Robert Luongo, the NHL once again taking a look at staged fighting and the exceptional status of 14-year-old Sean Day.

Is Wayne Gretzky going to be the next president of the Toronto Maple Leafs?

McKenzie - The rumour is constantly out there and it floats every so often. What I can tell is that there has been absolutely no official contact between Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment and Wayne Gretzky or his representatives, none whatsoever. After the Bell and Rogers consortium took over MLSE in August, Gretzky's name may have come up internally in informal discussions as a potential president or goodwill ambassador. There may have been some third party that informally relayed that to Gretzky and his group, but at the end of the day, no formal contact has been made over the last couple of months. Having said all that, this is one job in hockey that Gretzky would seriously consider taking himself out of semi-retirement to accept.

Dreger - This rumour surfaced a couple weeks ago when Brian Burke was relieved of his duties and via text at that time, Gretzky said he has never received word or talked to the Toronto Maple Leafs. That was then and this is now, but that was a very direct statement.

They benched Eller in favor of Brendan Gallagher. Eller will be in Mike Therrien's doghouse all season long unless they trade him. He's not an intense player and totally the opposite of what Therrien likes in a player.

In other news, P.K. Subban might be contemplating joining the Raptors:

The Leafs have also lost Joffrey Lupul for 6 weeks. Costly win! (Not a great surprise: Lupul's not a bad player but he is VERY unlikely ever to play a full season again because he's injury-prone and snakebitten - a bad combo.)
