Pretty sure he was not a good fit for TORTO....so that"s the way it ends for GAUTHIER who will play now with talented kids with the DUCKS....et des fans beaucoup plus conciliants...

It's not clear why Philadelphia soured on overall #5 2022 draft pick Cutter Gauthier (and he on Philadelphia), before ever arriving and playing for the team. To me this is a very weird story and will be interested to know what's really going on here:
From Daniel Brière’s interview, Gauthier expressed, 1 month after the draft, that he will never play for the Flyers. Brière and his team made several attempts to come to an agreement with him and his agent, in they weren’t even answering. The DG had no choice, he had to make a decision, nowhere can we get Gauthier’s version, I don’t even think he ever gave the Flyers a reason for not wanting to play for them.

Gaby’s point could be valid, even if Brière said that, in his evaluation, Torts is a great coach with his recruits, there are still players that are scared to play for him.

Why did they not know this before wasting the #5 draft pick on him?????????????? It's well known that Torts stresses defense (and he has improved the Flyers in that department) and sometimes offensive stats suffer in his system. This is not some well kept secret. All they had to do was ask Gauthier if he had any problems playing in their system or with that coach. This is what all teams do when they talk to players before they draft them. So what happened??????

Well Brière also said that at the draft, Gauthier said he was very happy to be a Flyers so nobody knows what happened after that.

If I was a Flyers fan (and I am NOT, although one of my colleagues at work is) this is totally unacceptable! I would be livid and demanding an explanation. Gauthier is an excellent prospect, a power forward in the mold of some past power forwards Philly had. I seem to recall him being compared to John LeClair at the draft. To simply throw away a #5 overall pick for the Ducks' garbage is just not in any way acceptable.

Gauthier refused to play for the Flyers. People can speculate his reasons but as of today no one seems to know other than Gauthier & a few people close to him including his advisor & former Flyer Kevin Hayes. Twice he refused to meet with Flyers officials who asked to meet with him including former Flyers like John LeClair who recently travelled to Europe to try to meet with him & come to an understanding. Gauthier told Briere a few months ago that there was no way he’d ever sign with the Flyers & told them he’d rather go back in the NHL draft than to sign with them. This tactic seems to be more common when it involves players who played NCAA hockey since they become unrestricted free agents after two years if they haven’t signed with the team which drafted them. Players such as Adam Fox & Zack Hyman successfully used this tactic in order to avoid playing for teams that originally drafted them. They forced teams that owned their rights (Calgary, Carolina & Florida) to trade them to a team of their liking or else lose them for nothing. In Canadian junior leagues unsigned players do not have the luxury of becoming UFA. They simply re-enter the draft.

Many people are criticizing Gauthier for showing a lack of class in refusing to at least meet in person with the Flyers & instead hiding behind his agent. By the way the Flyers got a heck of a great young talent in young right-handed defenceman Jamie Drysdale plus managing to get the Ducks to include a second round pick in the transaction.

I think the HABS problems have been mostly caused by the very bad management by Bergevin administration.
Bad contracts, not very good draft choices. Even before Bergevin, I don't think Carey Price drafted 5th was the best candidate. Anze Kopitar was drafted 11th, he won 2 Stanley Cups and is still the best Kings Center player if I'm not wrong.
Price didn't have the best players to support him.
When Chicago won two succesive Stanley Cups they didn't have extraordinary goalers.
The New-Jersey Devils had the best goaler but also the best attack and perhaps the best defense too.

I don’t have as much a problem with Bergevin’s drafts as other people may have but bypassing a talent like Brady Tkachuk in favor of Kotkaniemi made absolutely no sense. Especially considering most teams didn’t even have KK as a top 12 pick. Where they erred was in the development phase. KK was rushed into the NHL & they should have been more patient with him. They made the same mistake with Galchenyuk, whom they picked third overall. There was no good reason for him to be rushed into the league at 18. They had made the same mistake with Latendresse & even today Latendresse admits that this was a major mistake which ended up drastically hurting his development. I’m seeing the same thing repeating itself with Slafkovsky.

Bergevin was very good at picking up fringe players from other organizations & turning them into very useful players. Paul Byron comes to mind. But Bergevi’s biggest fault was in granting big, long contracts to players he may have liked too much. Gallagher, Price, Armia, etc. Bergevin’s biggest asset is in scouting. He has a good eye for talent. I believe he currently has the perfect role for him in LA. He’s in a secondary executive position which is perfect for him.

More on the Cutter Gauthier front: after refusing to meet with Keith Jones, John Leclair & Daniel Briere he not only forced them to trade him but he also gave them a long list of teams he wouldn’t accept to be traded to which included every Canadian team. So it wasn’t just about not wanting to play in Philly. And it was confirmed that rumors the Flyers had been shopping him around at the most recent draft last summer were true. He had been offered to the Habs in return for their 5th overall pick but the Habs declined the offer.

EDM 4 TOR 2....wow....LEAFS were leading 2-0 and lost....4 buts sans réplique des OILERS and 11th consecutive win....impressive.

Kane Hurt Again
He has produced 16 points in 19 games, which the Red Wings will take, but he is looking very brittle.
