When I was a bush pilot some years ago I flew extensively over Northern Quebec. Sadly Most of Northern Quebec has been absolutely raped by lumber corporations under the radar with hardly any media coverage. Not even the UN made a sound. In the nineties I remember Huge cedar and pine and spruce trees in desolate areas only accessible by hydroplanes. Now it is all gone. The Machines arrived and took everything except the branches and overturned tree root stumps. These cleared areas with little shade caused massive surface heating and convection causing excessive turbulence and many mini tornados and storms over cleared areas, yes mini tornados 100's of km north of St Lawrence valley. Old school Quebec Bush pilots knew this stuff but it has never been documented. So now these dead zone deforested areas are littered with branches and overturned tree stumps that even years later are combustible and ready for disaster. The areas are so extensive that I guess too expensive and not profitable to "rake" as Trump spoke of and was laughed at. The Quebec government allowed this with the corporations and now they blame climate change and cars etc. Taking a forest and turning it into a desert dead zone is a no brainer for affecting climate.

^^^In reference to my above post you can use google earth to zoom in on areas of northern Quebec. North of Lac Taureau regional parc you will see endless maze of logging roads and DECIMATED forests. It is actually quite upsetting.

No, Canada did not light up its forests just to get even with USA for the acid rains in 80’s. Instead, she was driven by “good” intentions. Trudeau government spent billions on fake programs supposedly aimed at reducing CO2 emissions. Guess what, these forest fires have generated more CO2 emissions (and other bad stuff) that these programs are supposed to cut for years to come. There are simply not enough water bombers to effectively fight these fires and no money to build them. At the same time Bombardier is slowly dying pushed out of the passenger planes market while it can be building these bombers for domestic use and for export. The old adagio says that there is no limit of damage that can be done by stupid people driven by good intentions.
You are right about water bombers.
In 2015 neither the Quebec Liberal Party and the Conservateurs or the Trudeau Liberals did something to assure that Bombardier kept building them.
A compagny named Viking acquired that pary of Bombardier but will begin production only in 2027 !
^^^Holy crap today, Sud Ouest Montreal, June 25 I walk out front door and notice again the cool Red smoked out sun. The smell is strong today, headache level and it seems to make my weekend hangover worst. Had to shut the front door to keep the fresh air in. Winds from the North again but should shift South in a day or so. Bad one today.
