I am not saying to encourage it but I am also not saying to discourage it. When government intervenes it is always to the detriment of the working class. All it does is it limits competition, limits the choice the customer has and they end up paying more and not always for the better. Just as an example, for every product there is a low quality option and a high quality option. Take for example ketchup, one can buy the Heinz brand from your local supermarket or buy a cheap no name brand Ketchup from the Dollar store. Sure the price difference will be significant, but the difference in taste will be equally significant. Even the quality of the ingredients will be very different. I experimented with canola oil, hairgel and it just was not the same. But ultimately the free market will decide. There is demand for both. Some choose to buy cheap things while others choose quality things. Quality or cheap, it should be the customer who decides, not the government. It is kind of like when the STCUM planned to order the new metros, government favored Bombardier for the contract vs companies from other countries like Alstom who were able to produce the same product if not better for cheaper. Bombardier is an example of a poor company due to government favoritism. A lot of their products got flaws and they are consistently behind schedule on delivery. But I mention this only to point out how government intervening to favoring one over another is always to the detriment to the public. One last thing, these tariffs is nothing but political theater to score votes. Both Progressives and Conservatives are doing it and both are wrong. They are not doing it for the benefit of the public while they rake in millions with tariffs.
