Connecticut's Covid restrictions are going to be significantly rolled back in the coming weeks. Restaurant curfew is being pushed back and all business restrictions will be lifted by May 19:

I would like to know what the plan is with Quebec right now. When will the borders with NY and Vermont be opened? Is there a game plan for easing restrictions and getting the border opened?

The border won’t open until infection rates are very low both sides of the border and vaccination rates are significantly higher than they are on both sides. It will be across the entire border, east to west and not by region. If something breaks out in BC, they won't open in New York.

You will be hard pressed to open New York or Vermont and not Michigan. Michigan is a shit show as is Ontario. Until both are under control, forget it. So don't look at Connecticut, look at the worst spot.

Opening the border too soon is political suicide. Trudeau is heavily criticized for being too easy on the borders. With elections in the fall, he isn’t going to open up too quickly.

There is a new variant from India that is starting to make noise. Probably unjustified panic, but it's starting to make noise. They are talking shutting down flights from India.

There are multiple calls from provincial governments to shut down borders even more. Ford and Dubé both said it yesterday.

My preference : increase the quarantine time for people coming in. 10 days, not 3. BUT decrease it for people with a vaccine passport. It took forever to get a super simple quarantine program in place. It will take them months to put something slightly complex in place.

Will they be able to separate the conversation between US borders and other countries ? Maybe.

My bet, not until August, minimum

I would take borders opening in August because we wanted to do a September trip from the beginning of the year. As long as some small piece of the summer remains that's good.

Gallantca's assessment is spot on. Last year Canada was doing well and the US was a shit show. Now it's the other way around and neither the US or Canada has a full grasp of this pandemic just yet. August would be nice, maybe get a late summer motorcycle ride up north or pack the golf clubs in the SUV and play a few rounds in upstate NY before heading to Montreal for some action.

Some festivals that were usually held in june or july are hoping september will be more normal with less restrictions.

Trudeau has promised vaccination to everyone who wants it by September
Trudeau wants to call an election in September. Vaccination will be his "do or die"
So on the vaccine front, things work for you

Pokerpro thanks for posting this as it now gives me an idea on when to set aside our trip. I attended the Montreal Jazz Festival 15 straight years from 2002-2016, but I have been absent since. I have many great memories of this event pre Covid, including Stevie Wonder in 2009 (largest crowd I ever saw at Jazz Festival) and Paul Simon in 2006. Although my favorite moment was when the Quebec High School champion band performed an amazing rendition of the Hawaii 5/0 theme song:
As long as they have the outdoor concerts it will feel like a festival.

The coronavirus is very dangerous.
Those who still think that the coronavirus is not dangerous, let them watch what is happening in India.

A number of people have died while waiting for oxygen supplies, and the majority of intensive care beds in Delhi hospitals are full.
India is in the grips of a second wave of Covid infections.

It has close to 16 million confirmed infections and registered a record number of cases on Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is due to hold meetings with the chief ministers of affected states and oxygen manufacturers on Friday.

In a tweet labelled "SOS" sent out on Friday morning, Max Healthcare said it had been waiting for expected fresh supplies for more than seven hours at two hospitals. It has 700 patients admitted at the two facilities.

In recent days, several other hospitals in Delhi had said they had either run out of oxygen or their supplies were dwindling rapidly.

Sans vouloir péter ta balloune, ils ont aussi dit que si seulement 55% prennent le vaccin on verra une quatrième vague. Va falloir convaincre Mike et Sol :)

Johnson and Johnson vaccine back to use with a warning. Let's hope the pause of this vaccine doesn't discourage people from getting vaccinated:

This year there was no flu season.

I don't know why, unless those (like Sol) who think the coronavirus is just the flu, by then we have a really long flu period for 2020-2021
The simple explanation is as most people respected the stay at home ordered, specially around Christmas, and alot working from home, and no gathering in bars and restaurant (no Chrismas' office parties). And most people wearing masks, no crowdy shopping's mall. It just prevented the flue virus to circulate and infect us all.

The same precautions people took to avoid catching covid19 , helped prevent not only a flu season, but also colds and some air born allergies. Also helped nature heal itself a bit.

Look behind you.
^^^^^ Many complain people are not following the rules and that is the reason Canada sucks at the virus and some say the flu season is wiped out due to people following the rules, which one is it?
Going to zero with the flu makes no sense with the high virus cases.
Carry on.

Again your comprehension is lacking, my point is viruses are seasonal, did not state the virus is the flu.

Sol I happen to enjoy many of your posts. You are one of the funniest guys around and I agree with much of your conservative politics in Canada. What I don`t understand is your totally illogical and unscientific conclusions in this thread.
The majority of people follow covid19 rules while a vocal minority do not....that`s why the flu season is greatly reduced but not fully eliminated. What makes you say that the flu is eliminated ? It`s not its just vastly down .
Covid19 and its variants are way more infectious than the common flu. The only thing that will stop it is eventual herd immunity. That is until a new more virulent variant escapes the vax and that`s where annual booster shots come in to play.

If the flu season has been greatly reduced by COVID-19 protocols (I agree that it has) it leads me to question if COVID-19 has been greatly reduced by the protocols. Why one and not the other? Yes, COVID-19 its more infectious and easier to transmit, but cases are still on the rise all over the world. I wear a mask, socially distance, wash hands more frequently, etc. I follow the rules, but I feel it’s the vaccines that are really having any kind of effect on COVID-19 more so than the protocols.
