Gallantca's assessment is spot on. Last year Canada was doing well and the US was a shit show. Now it's the other way around and neither the US or Canada has a full grasp of this pandemic just yet. August would be nice, maybe get a late summer motorcycle ride up north or pack the golf clubs in the SUV and play a few rounds in upstate NY before heading to Montreal for some action.

Pokerpro thanks for posting this as it now gives me an idea on when to set aside our trip. I attended the Montreal Jazz Festival 15 straight years from 2002-2016, but I have been absent since. I have many great memories of this event pre Covid, including Stevie Wonder in 2009 (largest crowd I ever saw at Jazz Festival) and Paul Simon in 2006. The simple explanation is as most people respected the stay at home ordered, specially around Christmas, and alot working from home, and no gathering in bars and restaurant (no Chrismas' office parties). And most people wearing masks, no crowdy shopping's mall. It just prevented the flue virus to circulate and infect us all.
The same precautions people took to avoid catching covid19 , helped prevent not only a flu season, but also colds and some air born allergies. Also helped nature heal itself a bit.

Sol I happen to enjoy many of your posts. You are one of the funniest guys around and I agree with much of your conservative politics in Canada. What I don`t understand is your totally illogical and unscientific conclusions in this thread.
The majority of people follow covid19 rules while a vocal minority do not....that`s why the flu season is greatly reduced but not fully eliminated. What makes you say that the flu is eliminated ? It`s not its just vastly down .
Covid19 and its variants are way more infectious than the common flu. The only thing that will stop it is eventual herd immunity. That is until a new more virulent variant escapes the vax and that`s where annual booster shots come in to play.
If the flu season has been greatly reduced by COVID-19 protocols (I agree that it has) it leads me to question if COVID-19 has been greatly reduced by the protocols. Why one and not the other? Yes, COVID-19 its more infectious and easier to transmit, but cases are still on the rise all over the world. I wear a mask, socially distance, wash hands more frequently, etc. I follow the rules, but I feel it’s the vaccines that are really having any kind of effect on COVID-19 more so than the protocols.
It's a simple race to have enough people vaccinated to pull ahead of Covid. Some countries are winning the race and some countries are losing the race.

Yesterday Ontario had over 4000 cases while Quebec was a little over 1000. Even adjusting for population that`s about a 140% better rate.
I credit that big difference to the way Quebec and Ontario differ in their vaccination techniques. I agree that the only way to beat this pandemic is by mass vaccination....even one shot is better than none.

As of yesterday Canada has performed 30,500,000 tests with a 4% positive rate, about 24,000 deaths in total.
For the Ontario , Quebec cases. Ontario performs about 42,000 tests a day while Quebec does about 24,000. These are recent numbers.
