By the way I had my Pfizer vaccine part 2 yesterday at 12:30 p.m. and I am happy to report no side effects so far. After part 1, my arm was a bit sore, but no other side effects. So far, my arm is not really even very sore and last night I slept on my left side (shot was given in upper left arm) quite peacefully.

BTW I am wondering if you guys have at all perfected the post-Covid handshake which is essentially a closed fist bumped against another closed fist? I ask because if I am finally available to come to Montreal in 2023 and see any of you guys, we have to do the post Covid fist-bump handshakes:

For me it is rather good news. Important measures has to be taken to slow down the transmission. Of course, bad news on the progression of COVID in Ontario.
In Quebec, strong measures contribute to a plateau. All the opposite of what is claimed by some here.

I guess it all depends on what side of the province your on. Last year at this time states like Rhode Island were doing similar measures by stopping people with NY plates from coming to their state. NY was having a real tough time with Covid and other states were shitting all over us. What goes around comes around and infection rates can quickly change for the worst in your area. Shutting out countries or international travelers is one thing, but shutting down your neighbor can come back to bite you in the ass.

Yes Rhode Island took that step but CT and NJ never did because the 3 Tristate area Governors were working together from the beginning of the outbreak and that regional approach proved effective. Rhode Island marched to its own drummer and later in the pandemic, Rhode Island was put on CT's Travel Advisory List for a very long time , probably longer than any other state. Rhode Island was never one of the so called Sensational 6 States in battling Covid.

At the time I think RI was worried residents of NY would overwhelm their then already overwhelmed hospitals.

I think Rhode Island panicked and reacted to the great unknowns of the pandemic. By comparison, doing something like that now seems a bit extreme, like closing the Ontario/Quebec border.

They are predicting the tipping point of vaccination will be in around 2 weeks, at which point it will be harder and harder to find people willing to be vaccinated. It will be interesting to see how they persuade people.

I am American and fully vaccinated. I had a long debate about the vaccine with my IT guy, who is "waiting" on the vaccine. He is as intelligent and well educated as I am. He argues that the long term impact on the DNA and the immune system has not been adequately researched and that the vaccine was therefore rushed. I think he makes valid points. I decided to roll the dice knowing the risk. He decided to wait. There are people that believe the same as he does. And that's why they will wait. So the question is did they stop researching the vaccines long term impact or is that research being stifled?

In a perfect world we could educate people on the various vaccine technologies (they are not all equal) and maybe a refresher on statistics and probabilities.

I also think if people had more of a choice of what type of vaccine they are getting they could pick one more in line with their tolerance to risk.

If I had a 20-30ish YO daughter, I would probably prefer Pfizer. If I had a son same age, I'd probably pick AstraZeneca or J&J. To my 80yo aunt, Pfizer. But this is based on very little data we have so far.

Musician Ted Nugent has spent the past year trying to downplay the pandemic, and now he says that contracting the disease almost killed him.
In a video posted to his fans, Nugent admitted that he had the illness and that it completely wiped him out to the point where he couldn't even get out of bed and could barely move at all.
This is a lesson for all who still think there's nothing to worry about.

Connecticut's Covid restrictions are going to be significantly rolled back in the coming weeks. Restaurant curfew is being pushed back and all business restrictions will be lifted by May 19:

The border won’t open until infection rates are very low both sides of the border and vaccination rates are significantly higher than they are on both sides. It will be across the entire border, east to west and not by region. If something breaks out in BC, they won't open in New York.

You will be hard pressed to open New York or Vermont and not Michigan. Michigan is a shit show as is Ontario. Until both are under control, forget it. So don't look at Connecticut, look at the worst spot.

Opening the border too soon is political suicide. Trudeau is heavily criticized for being too easy on the borders. With elections in the fall, he isn’t going to open up too quickly.

There is a new variant from India that is starting to make noise. Probably unjustified panic, but it's starting to make noise. They are talking shutting down flights from India.

There are multiple calls from provincial governments to shut down borders even more. Ford and Dubé both said it yesterday.

My preference : increase the quarantine time for people coming in. 10 days, not 3. BUT decrease it for people with a vaccine passport. It took forever to get a super simple quarantine program in place. It will take them months to put something slightly complex in place.

Will they be able to separate the conversation between US borders and other countries ? Maybe.

My bet, not until August, minimum

I would take borders opening in August because we wanted to do a September trip from the beginning of the year. As long as some small piece of the summer remains that's good.
