I do not think any Dems are against adding security at the border. But a wall is not the solution. Do you guys remember how Guzman (el Chapo) dominated the traffic of cocaine to become the main cartel leader in Mexico? Because he was able to move the merchandise in 48h! Others took weeks. How?

Tunnels!

The most common method employed by Mexican TCOs [Transnational Criminal Organizations] involves transporting drugs in vehicles through U.S. ports of entry (POEs),” the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)*reported*in its 2016*National Drug Threat Assessment. “Illicit drugs are smuggled into the United States in concealed compartments within passenger vehicles or commingled with legitimate goods on tractor trailers,” according to the document.

The GAO report noted that while tunnel discoveries and detections of ultralight aircraft intrusions and smuggling incidents on small boats declined over the five-year span, the routes remain a threat to national security, particularly if used by militant groups to smuggle terrorists and weapons into America.

"While these methods account for a small proportion of known smuggling, they can be used to transport significant quantities of drugs or for terrorist activity," the report noted.

Looks that by vehicles and water are the preferred methods.

^^^^^^^ Yes but only a fool would have believed that Mexico would have paid for it. Build the wall and get over it ( directed to the Dems, not you )

I will ignore the "Everyone obviously knew he was lying about that part, therefore it doesn't count" aspect and move on to - once again - what wall? He needs to lay down paramaters of what he wants to build before anyone gives him money. I mean, he and his spokespeople disagree all the time about what he means. So how are they supposed to give it to him?

@jailmon "I do not think any Dems are against adding security at the border. " Obviously not. They just think a wall along the entire southern border is stupid and ineffective and won't pay for a glorfied PR stunt. They have offered him over a billion last year for DHS to use for additional border security. (Money which the DHS has mostly not spent, if I remember.) They offered the same again now.

STN - "Was the wall also fucking stupid when the Dems were in favor of it.

https://www.google.ca/url?sa=i&sourc...46880677365174.

Exactly! The wall they agreed to back then (and which has been built) is completely different from the wall Trump has been talking about. Just like your article says.
"But President Trump's comments on the length, height and design of his wall have varied widely since 2015, so widely it can be hard to tell what he'd accept in the end. He's even threatened to make the wall "higher and higher" each time someone says he's not going to do it."

During the campaign he specifically said the wall we currently have (the one they voted for) was no good. If this was just about deciding what should and shouldn't be built and how, debating what is reasonable and how to approach it, this would be settled already. But instead Trump just constantly moves the goalposts, lies about what he wants and how it will get funded, and generally makes good border security impossible.

^^^^^ Your previous comment was about drugs being smuggled not illegals, yes there are many illegals walking through the land without a wall.

To V.... Yes, the wall is different, I read the article, I know it is costly, I know most are against the cost, I also think the wall will make a difference...... Is it worth the cost, no but not much of what any government does is worth the cost.

If you know the wallnos different then why do you keep saying the Dems used to be in favor of it? They voted for something different.

Well, The Donald will be on tomorrow to lie about the wall and the border, so that will be interesting. I wonder if he has made up a new material for it. Maybe transparent aluminium? Or is he just going to try and declare a national emergency and see if he can become a dictator? (I don't think he actually has the balls for that.)

If you are so used to lie all the time don't your lies becomes your reality? So they are no more lies anymore? Perhaps this is why his team came up with with alternatives facts. It's false lies. Do you still follow me because I dont ;)

If you are going to build a wall do it right, why put up chicken wire to keep a bull out? The amount the Dems would have spent wojld be a waste, the wall Trump wants would be over the top but not a waste like the chicken wire that would do nothing.
The Dems are afraid the wall will work somewhat and do not want to see it started.

No one thinks the wall will work. Mostly because it won't.
But that's fine. Just stop saying the dems used to support this. We all agree it was completely different.

Well actually it’s worked out pretty well for Trump .It got him plenty of votes to get elected , has it not?

If ever it does get built I hope to god they send him on the other side of that shitty wall where he will somehow mysteriously disappear never to be seen again.

How pathetic how these so called world leaders run government while they whimper behind greed and corruption .
And they do it with all these deceptive intricate laws drawn to protect and favour there interests behind congress doors. Always had nothing but contempt for politicians and politics in general ,, the more I watch and follow the worst my opinion of them .

I can't think of a single person who doesn't think illegal immigration needs to be addressed.

I can think of several politicians that think so. Who? The same ones that refuse to call Illegal Aliens Illegal Aliens. Why? Because they are Future Democratic Voters of America.

Fun Fact: One of my best friends and colleagues interviewed for a position with the US entity of the corporate giant we both worked for. He is an engineer and demonstrated expertise in his field and interviewed well. He was offered the job with a 6 figure salary. A few months later the offer was rescinded. Why? He does not have a PhD and it was decided after the fact that my friend would have difficulty obtaining a green card. So the LA entity of my company offered to allow him to take a sabbatical to get his PhD so the next time he could take the job.

This irks me. We need engineers like this guy and they were going to pay him ~$150K. He would have contributed to the overall economy, paid his taxes, and he has never committed a crime in his life and he wanted to live here.

So the speech is only eight minutes. With that little time, what is the over/under on falsehoods? Ten seems a legitimate guess.

So you are betting he basically doesn't lie at all? Bold choice.

Just to clarify, I am not going to count him repeating the same lie more than once.

I do expect at least the following though:

He will claim the Democrats are for "open borders". (They aren't.)

He will claim the 3,000-4,000 SIA's at the southern border. (It was 6.) He will probably also imply those are suspected or actual terrorists.

He will lie about the shutdown in some way as well, but I can't predict what.

He will probably lie about the deal he rejected for DACA last year and claim he is open to it now.

I would bet that MSNBC's coverage will be 100% false, CNN's coverage will be 75% false and FOX will get about half of it right.

Pence has already admitted that Trump lied in claiming that former presidents explicitly approved of the construction of the wall.
